Maybe Mayfair Bank? I'm thinking I had my first bank savings account there in the 60s as a kid. I came across a classified ad for jobs at that location in 1960 and it specified ages 18-35 and WHITE in capital letters. mugofbeer 03-20-2022, 09:05 PM Was there a Kip's Big Boy restaurant in the Mayfair shopping center in the 60s? Union Bank was in Mayfair Village Shopping Center. gjl 03-20-2022, 10:42 PM Union Bank was in Mayfair Village Shopping Center. Was it called something else before Union Bank? I'm talking like mid to late 60s. I seem to remember the drive thrus facing 50th. Pete 03-22-2022, 08:26 AM The southwest section (first photo) now has really cool up-lighting embedded in the sidewalk. I believe they have the capability to shift colors. This is rank speculation on my part…. but….since Katz was the downtown drug store where the OKC civil rights sit-in was held, I’m guessing it was a drug store chain that somehow was replaced by Langsham’s in the 1960s. mugofbeer 04-18-2022, 12:58 PM This is rank speculation on my part…. but….since Katz was the downtown drug store where the OKC civil rights sit-in was held, I’m guessing it was a drug store chain that somehow was replaced by Langsham’s in the 1960s. Pete 04-28-2022, 02:17 PM Press release: ********************** Summer Moon Coffee Opens Third Metro Oklahoma City Location at Mayfair Village The Austin, Texas-based cofee shop that has expanded to the OKC-area will now serve oak roasted cofee and Moon MilkŪ in the Mayfair neighborhood. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma—April 29, 2022—Summer Moon Coffee, home of famed oak roasted coffee and legendary sweet cream, announced today that it is hosting a Grand Opening Event on Saturday, June 4th at its newest coffee shop location in the Mayfair Village area of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The event begins at 7:00 am and winds down at noon. The first 50 guests can expect an exclusive Summer Moon swag bag, while all guests will be treated to free oak roasted coffee and Moon MilkŪ samples (while supplies last). The new shop will also be offering a chance to win a year’s supply of coffee, along with exclusive discounts for all. This will be the third Oklahoma City-area location for the family of coffee shops, reaching 38 locations in total. The new location features a drive-thru, free wifi, and outdoor seating. Summer Moon roasts every batch of coffee beans in hand-built brick roasters, over seasoned Texas oak. The time-honored process used today was inspired by 19th-century coffee masters. They match their devotion to taste with the creation of a cozy, family atmosphere, made possible by friendly baristas. Their signature “Moon MilkŪ” sweet cream is one of their greatest attractions. Husband-wife team Chad and Tori Arnold are the owners of the new store, which is located at 4711 N May Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73112 in the Mayfair Village area of Oklahoma City. The Arnolds are working closely with the brand’s founders to ensure Summer Moon’s longstanding commitment to quality and craft emanates from their Oklahoma City-area shop. With the success of their Yukon and Edmond shops, and excitement around their upcoming Mayfair shop, Tori and Chad hope to open additional metro area locations in the near future. Summer Moon Mayfair will officially open Saturday, June 4th, with weekend hours of 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, and weekday hours of 6:00 am to 8:00pm. Open every day. soonerguru 04-28-2022, 09:31 PM I had the coffee at a Summer Moon in Round Rock and I thought it was very solid. Pete 05-02-2022, 06:57 AM Empire Slice Shop has filed building permits to take the restaurant space at the west end of the section that will contain Summer Moon and the relocated barber and tailor. This will be the same counter-service model they have opened in Nichols Hills. Their new space will also include that large covered patio area and will benefit from the big parking lot just to the west. The new spaces for the barber and tailor are 98% complete (signs are already installed) and they both should be moving over soon, at which time the old gas station and attached retail space will be demolished for Domino C-store and car wash. The last two photos are of the Summer Moon location. Tried to do one section with an updated look, gave up, decided to bulldoze instead. Spent too much on that first section to doze it now as well. Aw hell, just throw in whatever you want and build it as long as i get money from the thing. There was no attempt to update the southeast section that was demolished. They merely opened up part of the facade to see what they were dealing with. I live nearby and have watched the entire process up close. They've done a great job. Kept all the existing tenants, upgraded all of their spaces and brought new life to a center that had been dead for decades. Summer Moon is booming, Domino will be very nice for a c-store and is needed in the area, and hard to imagine getting a better tenant than Empire. More to come. Lane A is regular window pickup; Lane B is typically for large orders or delivery orders. They actually have a runner bring the food out to vehicles in Lane B. And yeah, multi-lane drive-thrus for fast food are relatively uncommon right now, especially when we're talking more than 2 lanes. The most high-profile multi-lane design I can think of is Taco Bell's Defy store concept they opened in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota earlier this year. The kitchen is actually built above the 4 drive-thru lanes, with an elevator system to send orders down to waiting vehicles. First reactions seem to be positive, it'll be interesting to see if Taco Bell/Yum! Brands - or others - expands that concept further.
