View Full Version : Buc-ee's
I can't imagine a Buc-ees with only 2 0r 3 cars there. There were easily over 100 cars there when we stopped both times at the one by Springfield MO on a recent trip to Chicago. Almost every gas pump had a car pumping gas and that location has 120 pumps. And probably 200 people inside. But the store and bathrooms are so big it can easily accommodate crowds that big. Browsing and shopping the store was super easy and checking out there was never more than one person in line ahead of us. It is run that efficient. I've stood in line longer to check out at OnCue. There was one employee in the bathroom that all he was doing was going from counter to counter squeegeeing the water splashed on the counter back into the sinks.
Jeepnokc 11-08-2024, 08:12 AM Lots of talk about the BBQ which is great but don't miss out on the philly cheesesteak burrito or the southwest chicken burrito, If we had one close by....I could see us doing office lunch takeout in our rotation.

I still won't believe a location is coming until 1 is announced. They have some issue with Oklahoma, and that will be hard to overcome.
Idk who needs to hear this. But Buc-ees isn’t coming here.,take a look at their other locations? Texas, Louisiana Florida. Louisville, Oklahoma does Not have the same amenity or “je ne sais quois” these states have. By being particular about their makers the create a following. There is pressure to get into DFW or NOLA or Knoxville that just does not exist in Oklahoma. Despite the 35/44/40 interstate system. This actually paints a pretty clear picture of how lottery winningly lucky Oklahoma was to get into the NBA. If buc-ees were to come here it will be the last state the expand into.
stlokc 02-06-2025, 07:21 AM OMG it's an oversized truck stop with a mascot. Who friggin cares?
There are world class cities from coast to coast that are nowhere near a Buc-Cees. There are redneck towns all over the south that have one.
Why on earth are people so hung up over this thing?
And yes, I have been there and seen it. I just do. not. get. the. appeal.
Whether OKC ever gets one or never does makes not one iota of difference to anything real going on in this town.
Rant over.
scottk 02-06-2025, 07:30 AM Exactly.
There are Buc-ee's in rural locations, and in smaller cities along the interstate (Springfield, MO and Amarillo, TX come to mind).
OKC and/or Tulsa will more than likely get one, at some point, with other locations in all surrounding states. It doesn't seem to be a matter of distribution.
They are expanding at a fairly rapid rate given how large each store undertaking is, hard to imagine they would not circle back to Oklahoma.
stlokc 02-06-2025, 08:14 AM Let me clarify because I feel like I came across too harsh.
I likewise think the OKC metro will get one someday - it just makes sense as they are filling in the map. I'm sure it will be a bit out of town: west towards El Reno or south toward Purcell or north towards Guthrie or east towards Shawnee.
And that will be fine. I won't care, but it'll be fine.
I think what bothered me was this insinuation that the state isn't "good enough" to get this truck stop, that they will naturally go anywhere else first, dare I say that we don't "deserve" it? (IYKYK) . When this is really a pretty bottom-of-the-barrel thing to be coveting. I think a lot of people in a lot of places would snicker at the idea that some people in Oklahoma are so enthralled with this truck stop that they are actually jealous of the small towns that have one.

What are you talking about? Buc-cee's aren't in nice areas. They're a gas station on the side of highways.

i think you're underestimating how clutch it is to successfully fight your way back on to I-35W with a car full of beaver nuggets and pulled pork sandwiches.
Yep a truck stop that doesn't allow trucks.

I mean Buc-ees has forgone an Oklahoma location defying massive strategic benefit. But the aforementioned locations do. Either way Vic-Ed’s isn’t here so sure.

They have already announced they are scouting sites in Oklahoma.
OkieinGeorgia 02-06-2025, 03:29 PM No matter what you think of Buc-ee's, It is a great business to have in your city. Decent amount of jobs and they are very well paying jobs at that. And, for every person that doesn't get the appeal, there are 10 (or more) that will go out of their way to go to it. And, the side benefit is the local convenience stores and gas stations picking up their game to try to sway locals to keep going to them instead. Personally I think it would be a great thing for OKC.
They have already announced they are scouting sites in Oklahoma.
I’m glad this got brought up. I read this article some months ago. They’re scouting locations in “lots” of places.. meanwhile they have actually planned locations in Rogers. No way more traffic moves thru Roger’s Bella Vista than I35/I44/I40. Math doesn’t add up. Same with the Knoxville location. A Roger’s location circumvent a east oklahoma location though. Say what you want about me but time is gonna tell on this and it be nice to be wrong but I doubt I am.

I think most of us will trust what Buc-ee's has said about their plans for Oklahoma.
_Kyle 02-06-2025, 05:01 PM I don't exactly understand why some people here feel the need to push their negative comments into so many threads here nowadays. Is it truly that difficult to understand some people may just appreciate and enjoy doing things they themselves may not find very interesting? I take many road trips around the country and when we see a Buc-ee's on the horizon it's always a fun place to stop and stretch our legs, use the restroom, and eat some brisket. I look forward to having one in OKC.
okiefied09 02-06-2025, 05:46 PM I always figured that Bucees wouldn't announce any plans till 3rd or 4th quarter 2026.

It's a gas station, a very LARGE gas station, but that is all it is, we are not talking a Chanel Boutique. Buc-ees is famous for selling Beaver "Nuggets", so no, they are not looking down in some way on Oklahoma when scouting places to sell their dam beaver balls. When they find a good location in Oklahoma at the right price where they can make money they will build a store. (and truthfully, so would Chanel)

Well, to be fair, the most recent exchange started with someone using the lack of Bucees in Oklahoma as a basis to disparage the state and point to it as evidence that it is an undesirable place. That's where the negativity began.
Personally, I like my convenience stores to be convenient, but you're absolutely right that many people really have a thing for it. Despite that, I think most people would agree that evaluating a community's worth on the basis of whether there's a Bucees is taking it a little too far. It seems that was what people were responding to more so than whether Beaver Nuggets are good.
Plutonic Panda 02-06-2025, 07:59 PM Ryan has a good point to make but worded it poorly, IMO, about them not yet having a location in Oklahoma. Rodger’s and Springfield, MO are getting one but OKC hasn’t had at least one yet? I’d have thought we’d have at least two by now and I bet the metro could easily support three. But we don’t have one and haven’t had any official announcement. El Pollo Loco announced officially they were coming to OKC and that was years ago and crickets. What’s the deal with that? It’s also perfectly valid to wonder why Bucees doesn’t have a single location in Oklahoma yet given where they’re from and everywhere they’ve expanded to. Oklahoma is one of the perfect markets for them.
About 1,000 different places have come to Oklahoma and you have to try and use El Pollo Loco as an example of failure? Talk about negativity.
There are hundreds of reasons why companies choose one market over the other. Sometimes there are better properties and better deals. Sometimes they have more aggressive franchisees.
We'll eventually get a Buc-ee's. And the fact we haven't yet is not any sort of bad reflection on the state, no matter how negative you choose to be.
Plutonic Panda 02-06-2025, 08:37 PM I never said we won’t, but it’s very bizarre that almost every time somebody makes any sort of criticism on this website it’s almost like a mob like mentality where they are attacked. I’ve seen it happen in time and time again and it’s happened to me. Hell all I just said was Ryan kinda has a point. It’s weird that they haven’t located here yet. I also said I thought we’d have one by now and I’m going to add to that, I’m fairly certain we will get one. So I’m sorry I don’t really care if you interpret that as being negative or not because I don’t. It’s a perfectly valid question to ask.
And El Pollo Loco that’s just what came to mind. The way you worded your post makes it seem like I’m challenging you that they aren’t going to ever come to Oklahoma and they really aren’t scouting Oklahoma. What I’m saying, and I think Ryan was to, though again as I said, I think he worded it poorly, frankly, it’s bizarre that particular gas station has not come to Oklahoma yet. In any sort of energy, I would have to put in the negativity would have to result in to me, caring about whether or not a gas station comes to Oklahoma of which I don’t. So give me a break here.

It could be more because of Ryan's comment. People are defensive because he was trolling (very, very poorly, I might add). Buc-ee's is not upscale, will never be upscale, and should not be used as a way to say OK is not good enough, which is what he was doing. So people are just channeling the reverse of his stupid energy. Nothing against you, I believe.
Plutonic Panda 02-06-2025, 09:03 PM Well, I think they will eventually come here and frankly, I don’t have any source on this, but I have a feeling they’re gonna announce the location this year. I mean, they have to announce something soon. But it is very odd how they have not came to Oklahoma yet.
Oh is Buc-ees STILL not in Oklahoma after all these years? Oh ok cool stores bro! Call me when they get here

I hear you. I do. Almost as soon as I wrote that post, I wrote another one acknowledging that I came across as too harsh. Truth be told, that was a very impetuous post I wrote. I shouldn't have done it. It was in reaction to one very particular post directly above that seemed to suggest that our hometown as somehow "less than" others because of the absence of this gas station and I was trying to be defensive about OKC - that the current absence of said gas station was really unimportant and not something we should be concerned about vis a vis our reputation. Basically I was trying to write "what's the big deal and why are you tying OKC's sense of self-worth to a gas station?" But it came across as dismissive of people that care about the particular chain and for that, I am sorry.

scottk 02-08-2025, 08:20 AM Amarillo is getting one? WOW.! That’s offensive
Amarillo HAS one. Opened December 16. Being in Texas probably helped push the location to open.
Also, the one in Amarillo is a strategic fueling location and pit stop for road trips as it is essentially the halfway point between OKC and Albuquerque, NM , much like the one in Springfield, MO between OKC and St. Louis. The Springfield location has the luxury of grabbing Bass Pro and Branson tourists.
The location announced in Benton, Arkansas is a bit of a head scratcher, I didn't think that I-30 got much traffic between Texarkana and Little Rock. I figured an Arkansas location would be somewhere along I-40, ideally near Fort Smith to capture I-40 traffic and I-49 traffic coming down from NW Arkansas. Also a halfway point between OKC and Little Rock.

It's a TX/AR conspiracy to keep OK down!!! They don't think OK deserves this icon of the interstate!! We should all be offended. :D:D

scottk 02-08-2025, 05:09 PM Is Wichita Falls the only decent size town in Texas that doesn't have a Buc-ees that is close?
No. West Texas does not. Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, El Paso are all beaver free.....other than the world's smallest in Marathon, TX. :p
Other than the one in Amarillo, to my knowledge there isn't a Buc-ee's west of the I-35 corridor in the state of Texas. My guess is the majority of this is attributed to reduced tourists who would stop passing through, in other words, small traffic counts compared to the infamous Texas Triangle.
Oklahoma has some prime spots, it's just a question of where, and which metro can claim it? I don't see more than one location in Oklahoma. If Tulsa get's one along I-44, I think OKC's chances are slim.
If OKC builds one at I-44/I-35 or south I-35, or east/west I-40, I think the chances of Tulsa or northeast Oklahoma getting one would be slim, at least for a few years.
I also wonder how long the novelty can last? Once they are in more places, the effort to stop at one on a road trip may decrease.
Soonerman 02-09-2025, 02:08 PM Is Wichita Falls the only decent size town in Texas that doesn't have a Buc-ees that is close?
Fort Worth isn't too far from Wichita Falls especially for a weekend stop at Buc-ees.

BillBennett 02-11-2025, 11:54 PM I travel from Northwest Arkansas to Houston often and to be honest I no longer stop at Buc-ee's. They take too much time and some of the items I like are way overpriced; i.e. Buc-ee nuggets and Southwest trail mix. Other than those items, it's a bunch of junk. I'm not really into the food stuff and their jerky is good but have you ever tried Casey's jerky? It's pretty good!
OkieBerto 02-18-2025, 11:33 AM On our way to Santa Fe we stopped off at the Amarillo location to gas up and get some food. The gas was super cheap and the crowd wasn't too bad. We tried the sandwiches and were pretty satisfied with the flavor. We go some of the pecans and nuggets for snacks and they were also really good. I am not a big fan of giant places like this, but this location wasn't so bad. I would probably use it again.

They discount it heavily if you get the "works" or what I assume is their highest car wash at the location in Denton.
But from when we traveled, the regular unleaded is priced right along side Love's and QT Truck Stops.

I was in Temple a couple years ago and didn't get a wash, and the price was 20 cents less than here in OKC. I was shocked at the price.
