Pete 07-30-2021, 05:20 PM As I've said, you have people actively searching for anything to justify what is mainly a misguided political reason not to get the vaccination. SEMIweather 07-30-2021, 07:34 PM This short thread from the town manager of Provincetown, MA really sums up the state of play right now, IMO: https://twitter.com/AlexBMorse/status/1421139894257266691 oklip955 07-30-2021, 07:47 PM I just checked World Meter. I am not sure how accurate of a count of cases this is but todays total with 3 states not reporting is 99,206. I kind of figured by the weekend the US would be around 100K cases, my guess is if the 3 states are added then the number would be 100 K or real close. This is not not at all going good. catch22 07-30-2021, 08:00 PM Even Fox News is in the midst of an about-face on the subject. I am afraid it is too little, too late for many of their viewers who have bought into the lies and purposeful misinformation of their hosts and guests. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E7jdkVlXIAQyKU6?format=jpg&name=large Pete 07-30-2021, 08:14 PM ^ Anything helps at this point. I'm not willing to just hope this is going to burn out, especially will school starting and heading into the cooler months. We are well beyond where we were at the same time last year, and December and January were our worst months. soonerguru 07-31-2021, 04:47 PM One of my clients lost his 58 year old brother in law to Covid last week. He had been fully vaccinated with Moderna but had inherent kidney problems. David 08-02-2021, 08:38 AM Wow, you sound like a pretty terrible person. We're 18 months into a global pandemic, there's a limit to how much sympathy one has for people who refuse any and all measures to fight it. soonerguru 08-02-2021, 09:34 AM Wow, you sound like a pretty terrible person. If you fear taking a vaccine against covid because of what may happen to you, then at least be smart enough to wear masks indoors where there are lots of people. Considering which church it is, I expect they've been holding maskless meetings for the past 18 months. Bill Robertson 08-02-2021, 10:21 AM I was really surprised yesterday at our local Neighborhood Walmart. Where virtually no masks have been seen in over a month I would estimate 60 to 70 percent were masked up. Pete 08-02-2021, 11:08 AM 5,597 new cases reported for the 3-day period. Last several Mondays: 3,669; 2,126; 1,211; 1,041; 580; 451. 7-day average now 1,627. Hospitalizations are 739 (+49). ICU is 216 (+1). Bunty 08-02-2021, 11:19 AM Amazed at this misinformation being spread! People believe the vaccinated are at higher risk of dying than the unvaccinated. This society is falling apart. Look at these replies to this tweet: https://twitter.com/disclosetv/status/1421199340308242437?s=21 “ We said this would happen but nobody listened, now the vaccinated are going to die and cause the unvaxxed to die as well” “ i think the unvaxxed will probably be doing better but time will tell tbh” “ Vaccine compromises immune system most likely. Unvaccinated should be safer. Depending on age and health though.” “ yep its the vaxed who are vulnerable as had innate immune system blunted and messed with” The lunacy is astounding. Unfortunately I came across this post because my brother re-tweeted it (anti-vaxer) The canaries in the coal mine are the initial test subjects for the covid vaccines starting out from over a year ago. I haven't heard of them dropping dead. FighttheGoodFight 08-02-2021, 11:53 AM 5,597 new cases reported for the 3-day period. The real numbers are way higher than this. Stay safe ya'll Cocaine 08-02-2021, 12:05 PM Heard a bit of story the other day how there are multitudes of Chinese students coming over to the US to study, being exposed to the circus of our political theater (both pre but especially post pandemic) and returning home after graduation with the notion that democracy and capitalism just are not worth it and that the trade off with what they have to deal with in China is better. Pretty crazy that the "greatest country in the world" is operating in such a way that the rest of the world is like "DO NOT WANT". Nah they don't need to come here to see that democracy isn't worth it. In China they call it democrazy because it's chaos. They use Korea as an example because every few years they have a president that ends up jail or they use something like Taiwan legislature fighting. So trust me on this they already know what to believe and were told it by everyone around them. The same way that they don't believe they're capitalist they say China is communist even though if you walk into any high school, college or factory dormitory everyone aspires to be rich and be a boss. The same if you talk to random people in an industrial park who wanna sell you things you can literally buy 10,000 of whatever item you want and you turn around and there are people waiting to give you multiple options for shipping. I honestly wouldn't believe the hype of most of random news story's like that they don't need to come here and see what's happened the past year and half to know democracy is bad for them. They have douyin videos, weibo story's and wechat articles already telling them that. Some things are completely untrue and other things are true. But the truth they wont find in those articles and stuff they learn in school are the things about China that completely suck and are unfair. Even the fact the rich Chinese can afford to send their kids to study in the west a testament to their capitalist system. It's also a testament to the fact they just don't have enough good universities they are few and far between and insanely difficult to get into. Most Universities wouldn't even be on the level of OCCC because of the fact that it's impossible to fail. They don't want the system here because they've told their entire lives the communist party is whats best for china but maybe thats actually true. dankrutka 08-02-2021, 03:23 PM *I can't wait to return to our authoritarian government that is currently running genocidal "re-education" centers for Uighur Muslims, destroying democracy and persecuting pro-democracy citizens in Hong Kong, and literally has a dystopian social credit score system that requires citizens to say positive things about the government* nah nah nah The U.S. democratic system has deep inequities and is unstable currently, but China is a worst case scenario for what the U.S. could become. I'm fine with places/venues requesting to see my vaccine card. I have it laminated and ready to go, and I also keep a digital copy on my phone. I'm going to a convention later this month that is checking cards and putting vax status on badges so it will be visible (cue the panic!). I've heard of some venues doing wrist bands. Concerning, if true. Martin 08-03-2021, 05:39 PM i was eating lunch with my dad and brother a little over three weeks ago and the virus came up in our conversation. i mentioned that i was generally less sympathetic to the people who are getting sick now since they are mostly those who chose to remain unvaccinated... as soon as i noticed a slight change in my brother's expression, i realized that he was among those who were refusing to be vaccinated. his stance was that the vaccine had not been adequately tested and that he would rather take his chances with the 'unlikely' event that he would catch the virus than risk any potential side effects... even though the number of people experiencing adverse events is extremely low against the millions who have been vaccinated. he started experiencing symptoms late last week, received a treatment yesterday, and went into the emergency room today. i imagine that he feels quite differently about his choice now. i tragically lost my oldest brother in 2019 due to medical circumstances that were entirely preventable and now i'm pretty concerned that i'm going to lose my only other sibling in the same way. I'll admit though, with all the crazy stuff against taking the covid vaccines going on the Internet, I would probably be too afraid to get one if I was under age 40 or 50. But like I said before, if younger, I would, no doubt, feel myself frustratingly lodged between a rock and hard place. It's also like back when I got the covid vaccine during both times I asked myself if these vaccines are so safe, why do I have to wait 15 minutes before leaving? I didn't have to do that for the flu vaccine. Anyway, I sure hope next summer is a lot better and things are ever more back to normal. soonermike81 08-05-2021, 07:22 AM https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/31/us/virus-unvaccinated-americans.html GoGators 08-05-2021, 09:55 AM In my opinion, no company should require employees to get covid vaccinations until it's fully approved by the FDA. I'll admit though, with all the crazy stuff against taking the covid vaccines going on the Internet, I would probably be too afraid to get one if I was under age 40 or 50. But like I said before, if younger, I would, no doubt, feel myself frustratingly lodged between a rock and hard place. Waiting 15 minutes is the standard recommendation for every vaccination including the flu shot. It has nothing to do with the covid vaccine specifically. I got a TDAP vaccine in March and it was the exact same recommendation. jerrywall 08-05-2021, 10:15 AM ^^ I got the phenomena vaccine a few weeks ago. 15 minute wait before I left the doctors office.
