GoOKC1991 11-07-2020, 01:40 PM 4,741 new cases. But hey, keep sitting on your hands Stitt! Libbymin 11-07-2020, 01:58 PM They're saying that some of this is backlog and likely includes some duplicates which will be corrected in tomorrow's count. Bill Robertson 11-07-2020, 02:09 PM They're saying that some of this is backlog and likely includes some duplicates which will be corrected in tomorrow's count. There's also a few people on Oklahoma Source saying they were given negative results then contacted by OSDH and being asked about their positive result. So it's possible today's number could be way off. FighttheGoodFight 11-07-2020, 02:31 PM Governor Stitt statement again is the same. Maybe if he keeps trying the exact same thing it will finally work! Bill Robertson 11-07-2020, 02:58 PM Governor Stitt statement again is the same. Maybe if he keeps trying the exact same thing it will finally work! I just really don't understand why some level of trying to do something wouldn't work. Mandate masks statewide. Ok, even if it truly is unenforceable it might send a message to some people. Go back to the March "shut down" which didn't shut down everything. Maybe make one adjustment to let restaurants keep dining with limited capacity. Just at least do something. SouthOfTheVillage 11-07-2020, 03:36 PM Yeah, the bars and restaurants definitely need to slow their roll. This is an unacceptable level of cases, especially heading into the High Holidays. This could end up getting very bad. Not that it hasn’t already been bad. Pete 11-07-2020, 06:28 PM Holt was the one that restricted bars and restaurants before... Even before today we averaged nearly 1,500 cases over the last week and setting records in terms of hospitalizations, ICU and deaths. Why no action??? Bill Robertson 11-07-2020, 06:45 PM Holt was the one that restricted bars and restaurants before... Even before today we averaged nearly 1,500 cases over the last week and setting records in terms of hospitalizations, ICU and deaths. Why no action??? Yeah, you're right. So at least OKC and Tulsa could tighten up if not statewide. But I'd rather see it statewide. In fact nationwide because every state has horrible numbers right now. SEMIweather 11-07-2020, 09:09 PM Holt was the one that restricted bars and restaurants before... Even before today we averaged nearly 1,500 cases over the last week and setting records in terms of hospitalizations, ICU and deaths. Why no action??? No federal aid coming anytime soon this time around. I just moved back to OKC from Denver, which has had more restrictions than OKC since the start of the outbreak, but is currently rolling up more than 400 cases per day, which is even worse than OKC. In response, they've put a whole bunch of half measures in place, but still won't shut down indoor dining, because they don't want to kill what's left of their restaurant industry. Things are going to get bad. (well...they're already bad, but they're going to keep getting worse) SEMIweather 11-07-2020, 09:12 PM On a side note...I grabbed a burger and some onion rings at Sid's in El Reno today. While I was in the drive-thru, I could see that the inside of the restaurant was jam-packed to the point where people were waiting for tables to open up. Meanwhile...there was no one eating outdoors at the picnic tables to the south of the restaurant, even though it was a beautiful 75 degree day outside. I just don't get it. soonerguru 11-07-2020, 09:34 PM This is Republican governance. You are on your own. Bill Robertson 11-08-2020, 07:33 AM This is Republican governance. You are on your own. Im completely disgusted, disappointed and sickened that grown, supposedly intelligent adults can't do any better on their own. We as a society should be able to do much better than we are. We as a society should be able to do much better than we are. One would think so, but based on the supposed leader of this country getting Covid, then still acting like it's a minor distraction instead of a deadly disease certainly doesn't help. And mocking people for wearing masks and straight-out lying and contradicting the foremost expert on infectious disease in this country and maybe the world while hundreds of thousands of people die. 2021 should be a year where we see improvement, truth, leadership and hopefully a vaccine. The change in the executive office won't do much. Frankly, it's too late. Many more Oklahomans will die in next 3-6 months. We knew how to stop it back in April, we chose not to. This is our reward. I'm sorry for all the dead, all who have lost loved ones, and all who will live with the medical disabilites wrought from surviving an infection. Slowed it down definitely but stopped it? You can count on one hand the number of countries worldwide that have it under control and two of them are islands so controlling travel to there is much easier. Europe isn't influenced by our leadership so that's no excuse for them. They are doing as bad or worse than the US. This virus simply has the world by the you know what with no answers until we have a viable vaccine. Canoe 11-08-2020, 07:26 PM Yeah, you're right. So at least OKC and Tulsa could tighten up if not statewide. But I'd rather see it statewide. In fact nationwide because every state has horrible numbers right now. You will get your wish 1/21/21. SouthOfTheVillage 11-09-2020, 06:38 AM Great news, but interesting timing: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/09/covid-vaccine-pfizer-drug-is-more-than-90percent-effective-in-preventing-infection.html d-usa 11-09-2020, 06:51 AM Not really interesting timing at all. Working with the health department on vaccine distribution planning, and based on CDC and FDA statements for many months now, we have all been waiting for preliminary safety and efficacy data to be released early November. Today, there were 2,197 new cases reported. So, the average for the last 3 days is 2,235. 7-day rolling average a staggering 1,894. Less than 3 months ago we were at 646, so we have almost tripled that number. 6 additional deaths reported. 7-day rolling average is now 12.9 down from a high of 15.3 4 days ago. We won't know about hospitalizations until tonight. liirogue 11-09-2020, 11:47 AM Are today's numbers for two days (since no number was released yesterday) or just for one day? Libbymin 11-09-2020, 11:49 AM Even if we just leveled off at this number, that would still be a staggeringly high average for this state. But I don't see any reason why it would start to get any better any time soon and our leaders are showing no indication that they plan on doing anything about it. Pete 11-09-2020, 11:57 AM Tens of thousands of college kids about to return home for Thanksgiving, tons of family gatherings at the holidays, colder weather as we head into cold/flu season.... It's going to get way worse before it gets better. Bill Robertson 11-09-2020, 12:25 PM Tens of thousands of college kids about to return home for Thanksgiving, tons of family gatherings at the holidays, colder weather as we head into cold/flu season.... It's going to get way worse before it gets better.I know it was hard for you to not do Thanksgiving. I missed my granddaughter's birth a couple months ago. My second grandchild. Now my daughter texted me that they're having a 2nd birthday party for my grandson, the first grandchild, in mid December. It's going to be really hard for me to tell her we won't be there but we've been really limiting anything outside the house since March and I don't feel safe there. It will be probably 30 people. Mostly young "invincible" types that aren't taking the virus seriously. I hope my daughter will understand our absence. jerrywall 11-09-2020, 12:38 PM I know that I've told my son at OSU to go in for the voluntary testing they provide for students, before coming home for the holidays. Of course, he'll have to get tested in advance of coming home in order to get the results in time, which means he'll have at least a day or two of exposure that he could still bring something home to us. jn1780 11-09-2020, 12:48 PM As we're seeing from Europe, the only effective way to curb transmission besides security theater are full lockdowns until spring comes. The good news for the new Biden team is that we will be at peak winter when he takes office with a vaccine starting to be distributed. jn1780 11-09-2020, 12:53 PM Did we know how to stop it? And could we have really? Slowed it down definitely but stopped it? You can count on one hand the number of countries worldwide that have it under control and two of them are islands so controlling travel to there is much easier. Europe isn't influenced by our leadership so that's no excuse for them. They are doing as bad or worse than the US. This virus simply has the world by the you know what with no answers until we have a viable vaccine. Pretty much. I would add there are some Asian nations that are doing better, but I think that's more a testament to their good genetics and healthier lifestyles. Everyone else, has pretty much taken turns being the "worst" controlled and the "best" controlled. This would be a lot worse if Covid came in October of last year, at least some of the pain was spread-out throughout the summer and we had time to prep for peak winter, that takes some of the burden off of our healthcare systems. FighttheGoodFight 11-09-2020, 03:48 PM Utah moved to a mask mandate now. They have fewer cases than us as well as a lower 7 day average. I hope we see some change in that but I doubt it. We need congress to renew CARES money so we can continue the free testing that runs out at the end of the year. Well if all goes perfectly a vaccine for wide distribution to the population will be next summer. That puts us right now at the same distance from the first cases to now as we will be from now until the summer. This will be a long winter and I encourage everyone to try to keep safe. Pfizer is supposedly going to apply for an emergency distribution request as soon as next week. They seem to expect that based on their results it will be allowed and distribution could start in December to health care workers and first responders. January/February for at risk people and March-May for everyone else. Maderna is saying they are right behind Pfizer. Bill Robertson 11-09-2020, 06:39 PM Just a thought (hope?). With Biden winning and therefore no hope of moving into a second Trump administration might that weaken Stitt's stance on statewide restrictions? If not it would almost suggest that his staff has studied the overall beliefs of the public and that those of us that want serious restrictions are truly the minority. Even though we are obviously on the right side of the crisis. Bill Robertson 11-09-2020, 07:26 PM Another day of bad hospitalization and ICU increases. Plutonic Panda 11-09-2020, 08:19 PM It looks like a lot of places have reported a very alarming surge including LA and Portland. Midtowner 11-09-2020, 09:49 PM Ok folks. We’re past the easy holiday for the rest of the year. We have started the Thanksgiving planning discussion last night. All of our families are in Oklahoma in rural areas. Sooo.... How are you guys handling thanksgiving this year? Not doing it at all. We'll place some Zoom calls. Kid's birthday party will be via Zoom as well. We've taken this thing as seriously as possible. As many of my client meetings as possible are done on Zoom. It's actually more productive than in-person as I will share my screen with clients as I draft their documents so we can be factually precise. BG918 11-10-2020, 09:32 AM Just a thought (hope?). If not it would almost suggest that his staff has studied the overall beliefs of the public and that those of us that want serious restrictions are truly the minority. Even though we are obviously on the right side of the crisis. Maybe Stitt thought he had some place in a second term for Trump and didn’t want to look out of step? Now that Trump is finished maybe Stitt will actually do the right thing and issue a statewide mandate. FighttheGoodFight 11-10-2020, 10:01 AM Stitt conference at 2pm today. Tulsa ran out of ICU beds last night an GT called for suburbs around Tulsa to please have a mask mandate. I am guessing most in the hospital aren't from Tulsa but surrounding areas. Pete 11-10-2020, 10:08 AM Press conference will announce a new color coding for counties and hospitals that doesn't mirror the federal thresholds and guidelines and does nothing. Name: Threat Level Midnight. The hundreds of deathly ill ICU patients will be encouraged (but not mandated) to exercise personal responsibility. Name: Threat Level Midnight. The hundreds of deathly ill ICU patients will be encouraged (but not mandated) to exercise personal responsibility. Mayor Bynum had some strong words yesterday. "Politically convenient speeches about freedom and personal responsibility are not preventing our ICUs from being maxed out." Sounds like Newt Gingrich's Patient Rights plan from the 1990's that suggested to sick patients to walk it off. Edmond Hausfrau 11-10-2020, 10:55 AM ICUs being repainted in soothing taupe tones to minimize distress. Pete 11-10-2020, 11:05 AM 1,702 new cases today. 7-day rolling average a jaw-dropping 1,947, representing yet another all-time high. 7 additional deaths. Hosptializations are 1,102 (+57), an all-time high. ICU is 334 (+22) -- all-time high is 349. Bill Robertson 11-10-2020, 11:46 AM The things I freak out about now. I went to donate blood a couple hours ago. During screening I was deferred because twice my temperature was 99.7. The idea of running a fever right now freaked me out a bit. I didn't own an oral thermometer so I stopped and bought two. A half dozen readings on both over the last couple hours and nothing over 98.7. Whew!!! Outhunder 11-10-2020, 12:20 PM This really bothers me. WWJD? https://kfor.com/news/massive-christian-concert-organizers-face-backlash-for-disregarding-new-orleans-virus-restrictions/ Bill Robertson 11-10-2020, 12:52 PM This really bothers me. I don't think doing stupid things and endangering people follows this instruction so I don't think He would be for it. Plutonic Panda 11-10-2020, 02:31 PM South Dakota hospitals are at 100% occupancy and the governor just said COVID positive nurses are allowed to stay and work: https://t.co/mX7HyPUcaY?amp=1 At a Texas prison, 6% of all prisoners have died from COVID. https://t.co/zVHBQz9Bs1?amp=1 GoOKC1991 11-10-2020, 02:41 PM Same old same ol press conference. “We are in trouble” “We have to do our part” “Please wear a mask” but no mask mandate. Mott 11-10-2020, 02:41 PM Returning from a ride on the River Trail, riding past Jones Assembly, the bar was shoulder to shoulder at 6pm. Early celebration on vaccine news? FighttheGoodFight 11-10-2020, 02:41 PM Press Conference summed up: Doctors and Stitt say please wear a mask and we are in trouble. No new restrictions of any kind. Stitt is "ready to issue" a stop of elective surgeries per area if beds get too full. Hopeful for vaccine. GoOKC1991 11-10-2020, 02:48 PM Stitt asked about a mandate “Again, it’s not about a mandate. It’s about doing the right thing and we need everybody in the community’s part to slow the spread” and points to Illinois and how you can’t eat in a restaurant and their mask mandate and yet their cases are higher than ours. Sigh. HangryHippo 11-10-2020, 02:52 PM He is an absolute moron. GoOKC1991 11-10-2020, 02:57 PM “I believe Oklahoman’s will do the right thing”. Yeah, ok. That press conference was a complete waste of time. Nothing changed. Pete 11-10-2020, 02:59 PM “I believe Oklahoman’s will do the right thing”. Yeah, ok. That press conference was a complete waste of time. Nothing changed. He hasn't done anything but hide the White House reports and blow millions on hydroxychloroquine which is now sitting in a warehouse gathering dust. FighttheGoodFight 11-10-2020, 03:00 PM “I believe Oklahoman’s will do the right thing”. Yeah, ok. That press conference was a complete waste of time. Nothing changed. "I believe Oklahomans will do the right thing." The same thing since May and we only keep going up. I do not think that is working. FighttheGoodFight 11-10-2020, 03:01 PM Also the Illinois comparison is pretty strange. That is a true fact that they have more cases but they also have a major city, it is basically already winter there and many people use public transportation. Not really the same as Oklahoma in any real way. Edit and saw on Twitter that Oklahoma has a higher seven day rolling average than Chicago. Nice. Rover 11-10-2020, 03:45 PM “I believe Oklahoman’s will do the right thing”. Yeah, ok. That press conference was a complete waste of time. Nothing changed. You didn't really expect him to change his mantra did you. Leadership by deflection, deception, and denial. Libbymin 11-10-2020, 03:51 PM Also the Illinois comparison is pretty strange. Not really the same as Oklahoma in any real way. Edit and saw on Twitter that Oklahoma has a higher seven day rolling average than Chicago. Nice. Also, didn't Chicago just impose the indoor dining restrictions like a week ago? Kinda dumb to say that those restrictions wouldn't be helping after such a short period of time. David 11-10-2020, 04:36 PM Press Conference summed up: Doctors and Stitt say please wear a mask and we are in trouble. No new restrictions of any kind. Stitt is "ready to issue" a stop of elective surgeries per area if beds get too full. Hopeful for vaccine. The only reason he's going to issue a stop on elective surgeries is because it's an opportunity to slip in an abortion ban. Otherwise it's hard to see how personal responsibility doesn't apply to that just as much as the mask wearing. Bunty 11-10-2020, 05:24 PM Today, Enid surpassed Stillwater in total positive cases 2590 to 2581. But petitions to oust the Stillwater City Council, including the mayor, got enough signatures. It's a stupid situation, since the city of Stillwater had to comply with the governor's orders to close "non-essential" businesses. When it's time to vote for recall, it will be interesting to see if people will be in the mood to vote the council out if the pandemic is worse than it is now. I doubt many college students will want to vote on it, but it will be interesting to see if the vote will be set on the day when college students will be out of town or not. Unite Stillwater submits recall petition for city councilors: https://www.stwnewspress.com/news/local_news/unite-stillwater-submits-recall-petition-for-city-councilors/article_1846b715-b28d-52dd-8f6e-db406e4c5100.html Bunty 11-10-2020, 05:34 PM The only reason he's going to issue a stop on elective surgeries is because it's an opportunity to slip in an abortion ban. Otherwise it's hard to see how personal responsibility doesn't apply to that just as much as the mask wearing. Wasn't that tried in Texas, but a court overruled it? Speaking of personal responsibility, older people in poor health still need to do a better job protecting themselves from the virus. The death total from the virus for those 65 or older makes up 80.77%, a slight bit higher. |
