View Full Version : Master gardener recommendation?

The previous owners of our house left the yard/plantings unmaintained for a while, and we've been trying to get it back in shape the past couple of years since we've owned it, but it's looking worse than ever, despite having someone come out to spray/fertilize since shortly after we moved in. We need somebody that doesn't just do mowing/weed-eating/etc., but one that can tell us why sinkholes are appearing, why our yard is getting more uneven, why our grass (whatever kind(s) we have) isn't coming in properly, how to handle certain problem areas that need seed/re-sculpting, how much dirt (and what kind) we need to fill in lots of spots, etc. We've taken soil samples to OSU-OKC and are waiting on the results, also asked them about gardener/landscaper recommendations, but they can't since they're a gov't agency. Anybody know of a company/person that could just come out for what would probably be just an hour-long walk-around and consultation and tell us what to do? Thanks much...

Might try TLC.

You can go to their location with pictures and they'll talk to you through it (for free, IIRC?), or have them come out for a nominal fee and you get a master plan for your yard.

Thanks, that's actually what we were just talking about this morning - just go to a nursery and ask if they know anybody. The woman at OSU-OKC actually used to work at TLC, so we're going to head to TLC as soon as we get our soil sample results back.

If at all possible, try to avoid TLC on the weekends. It's generally always slammed then. You'll have a much more pleasant experience if you're able to go when it's less crowded.

Thanks, that applies to pretty much all nurseries, doesn't it? :)
