View Full Version : Embassy Suites OKC NW
I'm surprised they didn't go with any type of backlit or illuminated signage for this building. Looks a bit odd at night. . . Perhaps it is the graphic designer in me, but I think the letters look strange period. Maybe they'll put the Embassy logo in that space next to them?

Celebrator 02-19-2020, 11:22 PM They've been open since right before Christmas, this was just the formal ribbon cutting with dignitaries and speeches and all.

Hmm... Didn't realize you can have the "Grand Opening" after something is already open and functioning properly (cough, OKC Boulevard)
baralheia 02-20-2020, 06:17 PM The property was open but the renovations were not totally complete until very recently. A small social convention I attended at the end of January was originally booked for this hotel, but we got moved to another property because the renovations wouldn't be finished in time. I assume they were still finishing either the ballrooms or the meeting rooms.
The opened in December (see my article above with all the photos) and it's typical for businesses to open and then hold an official grand opening event/ceremony sometime later.

Celebrator 04-08-2020, 01:15 PM My understanding is they are closed through May. Tough year to get this property back up and running.
It makes sense for bigger hotels to close for a while, especially the full-service ones.
So many employees are needed it can't be worth it for just a handful of guests.
Richard at Remax 04-09-2020, 10:53 AM So are they ever going to put a logo up there or leave that spot blank?

There is a big logo on the west side:

They reopen on June 10th.
Just got a notice from the City that Independence is temporarily closed north of NW Expressway because "building material is detaching from the Embassy Suites".
That hotel opened in the 80s and it seems the weather has reached such an extreme that some of the panels are coming loose.

Bill Robertson 12-22-2022, 02:41 PM Wow! That's not good.
Those look like big slabs of plywood (OSB) covered in EIFS.
Holy cow, one of those flying down could do a lot of damage.
Mississippi Blues 12-22-2022, 06:35 PM Any idea around what time this happened? My wife and I were up when the storm first arrived and then around 5:00 AM we heard what sounded like something fairly large fall over. We recently moved near 63rd and Independence and can see the Embassy Suites from our backyard, though it’s about half a mile or so to the SE of us. We’re much closer to a few towers near 63rd and Hefner Pkwy so I thought the noise might’ve been from one of those.

I assumed the noise came from Hefner Parkway but it may very well have been the Embassy Suites deconstructing! :D

That's exactly what I think. It looks like a 16x16 foot section that landed on Independence. That would do major damage to a car.
It's being painted in white, will look much better.
