I went back and reread this and missed the part about the shootings. I’m sorry, but I’m pretty tripped out on shrooms right now. Can someone explain why this all the sudden started happening with these types of bars and what management of these bars has to do with it? And why are they all just in this one area?

I’ve been to other bars in sketchier parts of town. There’s a pretty wild bar at Sooner and something in between Edmond and Guthrie. Wouldn’t recommend it

HA! My band played there a couple of times back in the early 90's and both times the same guy drunkenly smashed into our stage.... First time he just did a header into our guitar players monitor amp.... The 2nd time he made it all the way to the drummer!

OKLAHOMA CITY(KFOR)- OKCPD responded to shots fired at NW 10th and Hudson early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred at the Sunset Patio Bar.

Officers were in the area and noticed a verbal argument between two people at the bar.

One person was shot multiple times in the lower extremities and was transported to OU Medical Center. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect tried to flee the scene.

Officers were able to detain the suspect a short time after.

One officer suffered a laceration to their head which was unrelated to the shooting and its preceding argument.

OKCTalk has been quick to post any incidents, and there have been many.

The landlord that signed this deal was well aware of the past problems long before and continues to let them stay, most likely because they are making a lot of money by taking a percentage of the profits. In fact, my understanding is that the landlord fronted the substantial funds necessary for the build-out of this place.

Should OKCTalk just ignore it when a huge new place is going to open in the middle of Midtown? There are at least a dozen other operators in OKC with all types of criminal, bankruptcy and big debt problems -- we are generally the first to report such things. The operator of Sunset pays his bills and doesn't even have any pending lawsuits. Have you got something to share that can be independently verified or is this just a personal beef as you've posted about this more than once?

When someone does something illegal or starts stiffing creditors, we are all over it. We also don't just write an article and then never follow up; even the smallest projects get dozens of updates. So, if something changes, we report that too.

You should be directing your vitriol at the Oklahoman, not us.

So OKCTalk, an organization focused on reporting about developments in OKC, shouldn’t report news about developments in OKC?

And you only know this information from OKCTalk, as we just didn't just post an article and walk away. Literally hundreds of updates.

And then you're using a thread on Sunset to complain about "legitimacy" when it is actually open and extremely popular.

The Shay is open and operating, just not the pool. The Nuway Cleaners building was renovated and fully leased. He also fully leased his buildings on Western, but you conveniently leave that out. So in one instance (OnCue), the land was sold at a healthy profit after a project was announced? Where is your ire for the hundreds of other developers that announce plans that never materialize?

You clearly have some sort of personal issue here.

If you have some legitimate, verifiable claims of him not being legitimate, let's hear them and I'll investigate.

If it’s percentage rent, surely it can’t be that lucrative. Granted, I don’t ever see the place after 10pm or so but there’s hardly ever anyone there during earlier times when I go by it. Maybe the Friday/Saturday after 10pm crowds are huge, just don’t know.

It is VERY popular after 10pm on weekends. I don't get it. it flies in the face of logic. It isn't anything special, yet it is always packed late at night.

Maybe people want to be at a place known for risky clientele. I have no idea.

When we drove past on the night in question it was about 10:30 and they had lines to enter going both directions about 20-30 deep.

It's lines around the block on Friday and Saturday nights after about 9 or 10, and Sunday evenings too. They could probably close their doors but for those hours and capture 90% of their existing business. It's the same business model as places that were problematic for Bricktown in the past, back when BT was having similar issues.

I could see PM throwing some legal weight around and making changes. PM will NOT put up with much. I've worked with them and they have high standards/ wants. I'm honestly surprised they are moving to this spot; from what I hear plenty of the lawyers don't want to move. This whole thing is very interesting to me, I have no idea how it will play out, but I'm watching!

Also, increasingly Midtown Renaissance is making a huge investment in Midtown with plenty more on the way.

Between them and PM, they can put some strong pressure on the landlords who are enabling the mayhem in the immediate area.

Makes sense. This place has to do, what, probably a third of their overall sales between Midnight and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights? And there haven't been any consequences to their actions so far, so might as well keep on keeping on until someone forces you to stop.

Their last day is today (Saturday 11/25).

The operators told me they have a 20-year lease and spent close to a million $ to renovate, so they are not going to walk away.

They hope to rebrand and reopen soon.

Hopefully, Kongs and Sunset ruin the vibe of Midtown.

Went by Kongs the day before Thanksgiving and they have to be on life support at this point, They got rid of almost all their arcade games, no longer have any draft beer despite having like 20 taps and from what I could tell only really have bottom shelf liquor anymore. Also, that day when I was there 2 of the bathrooms were closed and the other two wouldn't flush literally filled with feces and no one working there seemed to care despite telling them about it. Honestly seemed like a place just keeping the doors open until their lease runs out.

The current plan is for the former Sunset to become an event space for The Dailey, a coworking business.

Shyon Koeppel co-owns The Dailey and owns the building in which it is housed on N. May near Northpark Mall. He still has a long-term lease on this Midtown property.

The woman who runs the coworking space will also run the event space. They had a big blowout over the weekend with DJ's where the place operated pretty much like the Sunset of old, so not sure if that will still be happening on weekends unless they have been hired out for a private event.
