Ha, now that you mention it, I went to the NW Exp/Rockwell one twice and vowed never to again, so yeah, they have their bad ones. When they remodeled the 66th/May one, it seemed to be a "flagship" type of store, even had real plates at one point, so yeah, for some reason that one stood out amongst the other crap ones. sooner88 11-27-2020, 12:22 PM I heard that Lua is closed for good. It's a shame because their beans are (were) the best. Yeah, you could definitely tell when it changed hands. And, spot on about the beans. Refried beans is how you can tell the true quality of a Mexican restaurant. Taco Bueno used to have as good of beans as nicer sit down restaurants. Bill Robertson 12-02-2020, 07:25 PM The entire Taco Bueno chain has rapidly gone downhill. A manager told me once it was bought by a hedge firm and the founders bailed, everything changed. It's a shame because their beans are (were) the best. When Casa Bonita/Taco Bueno were the same owner they were soooooooo good. All the recipes for beans, rice, meat, queso, guac etc. were the same. We sometimes used TB for prep if we had a problem at CB and vice versa. Or swapped employees if one or the other were short. It hurts to see TB become the disaster that they've become. And yet we keep stopping there for drive thru occasionally on the way home hoping it will be better this time. Knowing that a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. CCOKC 12-02-2020, 11:37 PM I am so sad about Taco Bueno. I would say that on average, Sonic is below McDonald's level. I still get an occasional good quality burger from McDonalds, as long as I don't go to the one at NW 164th & May. I haven't had a good burger from Sonic in years, and they used to be my favorite. Whataburger is now my go-to. snark0leptic 12-04-2020, 01:41 PM Magnolia Bistro was super busy for lunch, great way to send them off. I'm pretty sure I got the last order of wings too. There was a little laugh and she said, "If only it was like this every day." Until we m(eat) again, Magnolia. I wonder if these buffets could retool to bring back the old cafeteria style concept... or some sort of hybrid where the food is behind glass and there’s a server but it’s still one price. I’m sure the additional labor would be hard to figure out in the pricing. fromdust 01-03-2021, 09:51 PM Via their Instagram, Magnolia Bistro (7th & Broadway) is closing for the foreseeable future after this Friday 12/4 (10:30am-2:30pm). SoonerDave 01-04-2021, 07:29 AM It will be a struggle for quite a while once Covid passes but l bet it happens eventually. I think one concept that might come back in some for is a variation on the old 40's/50's style automats. You had a prep kitchen build all manner of different foods, eg sandwiches, hot plates, desserts, soups, you name it, and the prepared food was put into one of dozens of automted vending slots. The buyer would come in, deposit the appropriate amount of money into the food window of choice, open the door, and take out their food and leave. It seems to me that concept would be ideal under current circumstances. You could adapt the vending model to use contactless payment and have automated door opening/closing for food dispensing. Roger S 01-04-2021, 08:44 AM I noticed they demolished the Western Sizzlin building at I-240 and Penn recently. |
