Via their instagram, Magnolia Bistro is reopening tomorrow!

Oh trust me....I know :D

Extended hours (M-F 11am-7pm) and a newly acquired liquor license I believe too. Only seven days between their closing and exciting/confusing Dec 11th Instagram post about them roaring back in January. Excited to check it out, plus I encourage other to check out Brielle's new space on Air Depot, very spacious with a buffet bar set up as well. Enough of my off-thread talk.

When did "The Drake" close?

I believe it closed right when the pandemic started; last April or so.

Kind of sad to lose a restaurant like that, but their CFS had gone kinda downhill the last time we were there a few years (maybe 6-7) ago, so we hadn't gone since.

This is so sad. Yes, it had kind of gone down hill but I have been going there since I was a little kid. It had been my very rare keto cheat until Marchish. RIP Ann's Chicken Fry :(

That would be great! I hate to see Ann's go away. And I would think being right next door Maxey might know enough employees to get them to stay and keep things the same. Or get them back to the way it was in Ann's heyday.

It's needed some serious love for quite a while.

Hopefully new operators can spruce it up a little and have good food quality.

Darn l wanted to tempt one more heart attack when l was in town. The last 2 times we tried to go, they were closed due to plumbing problems.

I may have to get a Del Rancho steak sandwich supreme instead.

Yes, I meant Chuck House.

It's really good and reasonable. Pretty old-school with order-from-the-table phones but also a drive-thru.

I have been to Kendall's several times but somebody on this group said that Tiffany's (right across the street from Kendall's) is better. I like Kendall's but maybe someday I will give Tiffany's.

I wasn't too impressed with it the one time I had it, but all their other stuff is pretty good, need to try it again. Also, their CFS is $5 more at lunch ($10 more at dinner) than Chuck House, but it's worth it for the atmosphere, which is non-existent at Chuck House. :)

I'd pay $5 extra just for the gravy. I've never had the lunch, bit the dinner steak is big enough for two meals.

I just drove by Phillyhoma on SW 74/Walnut Creek Center and can absolutely confirm it is gone. Looks like it has been gone a while, with "for lease" sign in place. These guys made a pretty good cheese steak, hate to see it fail.

It's odd cause it seemed like they were set for expansion and bad luck with the timing.

Drove by the City Bites on NW 59th/May and it's closed! Sign's gone, completely closed, was open last week, I thought. Looked at their website and it's not listed and it looks like the one on Western between 63rd and Wilshire's closed too, they have no restaurants in OKC proper anymore, weird. Sad the 59th one closed, we had been going to it for decades...

One of our first lunches together was in the booth nearest the restrooms and I explained to her she couldn't get serious because I was NOT getting married again. Obviously that changed!

We also were early fans of City Bites, when they started in Edmond. But that was before Firehouse, Jersey Mikes, McAlister's, Jimmie John's, not to mention a jillion Subway stores... tough competition.

City Bites had its novelty phase about twenty years ago, then at some point just started galloping downhill. We were regulars for a long time until that slide started, which was highlighted by increasingly nasty stores, reduced options, and, frankly, better alternatives. The last one I knew about was on S Walker just south of I-240, but we hardly ever went there. Have to see if it's still open.

Yeah as a recent-ish (5 years) transplant to OKC, I’ve only ever had City Bites once and it was really disappointing. I don’t get the appeal.20 to 30 years ago they were about the only option to Subway. Their decor was different and kinda cool. But as wunderkind said there's better options now and CB just never tried to change with the times or compete. This past year has weeded out a lot of restaurants that just really weren't cutting it to begin with.

We tried the one in Norman a few times. It would take forever to get a mediocre sandwich. I remember as a kid how good and fun it was. Just got beat out by competitors. Cookies were still good though....

interesting... they don't list the store on 240 and walker. i went there a couple of months ago after not being to a city bites in years... it tasted like the same sandwich from my memory but with lower quality ingredients. i didn't see myself going back. there's a place on 89th and penn called pickerman's that's been there for years... been meaning to give them a shot.

i'll never forget going to the location near 240 and western decades ago when i was still a kid... the restrooms only had the male and female symbols (the ones with the circles) but the men's door was pink and the ladies' was blue. after thinking about the right decision, i go in and am greeted to a one-way mirror behind the toilet... i'm basically staring at everybody in the dining room while peeing... really strange design element.

There has been a City Bites location about a half mile from where I live behind Northpark Mall but I haven't looked there recently to see if they are still open. The location is a little hidden from either May or 122nd but I'll try to check it out when I go by there next time.

Weirdest thing about City Bites for me is that they somehow have a location all the way up in Wichita

For the longest time they had a location in a shopping center at 21st and Woodlawn near a Hobby Lobby and LaserQuest, they moved around ?2008? to their current location just north of K-96 and Woodlawn.

My guess would be a single franchisee who bought into the concept in the 90's and has been able to hold on and be successful with the one location.

I believe that one's been gone a long time.

And yeah, they weren't the greatest anymore, but I only generally got one thing there - Garden Gobbler on Jalapeno Cheese Bread (shout-out to corwin1968 :)), and a snickerdoodle cookie. Their soups were decent (cream of jalapeno was one of their better ones). They were convenient, fast and decent, but at least there's still Neptune around for nostalgic sandwiches. I think the 59th one was the original location, but not sure.

They've been closed, but I believe the understanding it was meant to be temporary. They were relying on a food truck to try to stay afloat until they could re-open, but I guess that didn't work out.
