It's a nice facility, but personally I would like to see more brick for it to be located in Bricktown. Especially given it's proximity to the canal. Just my two cents, but something like that in Deep Deuce or Midtown would be gorgeous!
A Drury on the lot across from Bleu Garten would be nice.

I wish they would tear down bleu garten and the buildings north of it, combine the city blocks, and add apartments/office around the entire edge (with retail and restaurants on the lower levels) creating a public square and call it like idk Midtown Square. Boston just finished a new project called Echelon Seaport and although I don't think we could get the height, I definitely think the concept is what that area needs. Here's some renders.

Will always disagree on the tear-downs, sorry

This!

99% of Midtown Renaissance's efforts have been very good. But, they don't totally get urban development. I'm glad they haven't rushed to develop the large unoccupied land south of 10th, but my goodness is that an important piece of property. It could be huge: retail, mid-rise / high rise apartments, hotel, etc.

It would be great if they would get some big-time urban planners involved in ideation for that property.

There's nothing of value on those lots (historical or architectural). The only thing worth saving are some of the mature trees... Lol

I think any building on the Bricktown Canal has to have some fixed majority of brick on the exterior, and other design rules?

A minimum of brick is required in Bricktown.

Lower Bricktown (south of Reno) does not have the same restriction.

Allow me to gently suggest that Mickey Clagg, Bob Howard, their partners and associates have the desire, vision and financial ability to hire the best urban planners. They are already 20 plus years into their effort. I recall Clagg helped me and a neighborhood group I was in 25 years ago when we worked to stop a street closure plan.

^^^^^^^^
The Midtown Renaissance partners (Chris Fleming should also be included when discussing them, as he is a driving force in that partnership) absolutely "get" urban redevelopment. Look no further than Hudson Avenue today vs a few years ago. Most folks just miss that they are very strategic and patient in their movements. They are knitting back the urban fabric they own/influence with extreme care. Only at your own peril should you judge the future of their finished product based only on what they have done to date.

I for one am glad Midtown seems to be focusing on small scale projects that rebuild the urban fabric the way it’s supposed to look, rather than combining blocks to build superstructures. In my mind, the greatest urban neighborhoods (Greenwich Village, Lincoln Park etc) look far more like Midtown than they do big standardized lifestyle centers.

Wow. Didn't mean to touch a raw nerve here, and perhaps I didn't and I'm just reading this wrong. No disrespect was intended toward Midtown Renaissance at all. As noted, I like 99% of what they have done.

1. As noted in my comment, I appreciate the fact they are not in a rush to develop locations.
2. We are going to have to disagree ever so slightly about their urbanism. Yes, I will give you that Hudson has been nicely and purposefully rebuilt, and like I said elsewhere, I admire their housing projects in a big way (although I think they could do for sale, but it is their business so they can do what they want). But I do have insights into what some of the folks have said and done in the past (key word here), that gave rise to my extremely limited and moderate concern.

It still benefits to have some folks from outside of town come in and provide ideas. It's never a bad idea to try to reenvision what you may have in mind. For example, being careful and thoughtful should prevail among everything else when you are presented with this tabula rasa of incredibly valuable urban fabric. But, there could (another key word) be times in which not taking action when the time is right is a mistake as well.

Bottom line, I don't think we really disagree on much of anything except perhaps degrees, and I fully admit you have more inside information than I do in this regard.

Cheers.

Haha didn't touch a nerve; we're all good! I just believe that they are being very strategic and that their best work is still in front of them. They've been working the long play since day one.

That building was a renovation. Most all of the drury hotels that are decent are renovations. They have come out with a new "modern" approach in their design choices. Here's the recent Nashville hotel. Not saying this is crazy attractive but it's 10x better than the older design drury hotels.

Got it, thanks for the clarification!

Excuse me Pete, do we know if there is any information of this development? Renders, floor plans, permits filed, etc? Or are they just taking it one day at a time before they make a move?

There were never any renderings or specific plans.

Just their purchase with the obvious intent to develop a hotel at some point.

They had put the property on the market for a while, but then removed it so the assumption is they will one day build a hotel on that site, but there has been no movement since the purchase almost 4 years ago.

They cooled on the development at the beginning of the pandemic and I believe that is when they put it on the market. There have since been some behind-the-scenes indications that they are back to pursuing the idea. I'd imagine the reception Renaissance gets will inform their decision. Which means most likely they will heat back up, because Renaissance is going to KILL. IT.

I saw last year in January 2022, Drury Inn revived their plans to develop in Bricktown.

Having traveled to multiple cities across the USA, I must say, I really have enjoyed the Drury Inn. Very accommodating for both the business and the personal traveler. Really enjoy their Kickback Hour in the evenings too.

Any updates regarding the Drury Inn development?

No, nothing happening with that parcel.

I suspect it will be a while before there is movement.
