Jones Assembly proprietors to operate new Scissortail Park cafe (http://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=511-Jones-Assembly-proprietors-to-operate-new-Scissortail-Park-cafe)
The Social Order Dining Collective – operators of the Jones Assembly, Fuzzy's Taco Shop, Texadelphia and Seven47 in Norman – have come to an agreement with the City of Oklahoma City to operate the cafe in the under-construction Scissortail Park.

The structure of approximately 3,000 square feet is being built at the north end of the park along the new Oklahoma City Boulevard and directly across from a streetcar stop. The structure will also feature a large covered patio.
Annie Tucker of Social Order told OKCTalk that a final name has been yet to be determined but the concept is designed to appeal to the masses that will be utlitizing the park, with everying from burgers and shakes and ice cream to more healthy options such as salads and wraps.

Efforts will be made to utitlize local daries and farmers in order to source as many fresh, local ingredients as possible.
The cafe is slated to open next summer or early fall to coincide with the opening of the massive 70-acre park, which will offer a large outdoor stage, playgrounds, a small lake with paddle boats, extensive landscaping and will utlimately connect the central business district to the Oklahoma River.
Hours will likely be 10AM to 10PM, staying open until 11PM on weekends and the cafe will have a full liquor license.
The cafe will also be very near the new convention center and Omni convention hotel which will see completion in the next two years.
Scissortail Park also revealed their official logo designed by local agency Staplegun.
Social Order co-founder Brain Bogert said in a statement, “We are extremely excited about the opportunity to partner with Scissortail Park as the restaurant operator. We look forward to providing a concept that will share the park’s mission and will help bring the community together.”

Colbafone 06-21-2018, 01:23 PM Our Convention Center/Park is quickly becoming a true destination and I find that awesome. This is just ANOTHER boost to the park/CC.
shawnw 06-21-2018, 01:26 PM nice
Rover 06-21-2018, 01:28 PM I like the logo mark
GoldFire 06-21-2018, 01:42 PM Awesome, glad to hear there will be at least one cafe in the park. Felt like it would be a huge missed opportunity to only have places to eat/drink in the area around the park.
David 06-21-2018, 02:19 PM I didn't hate the name or anything, but that logo makes me like it more. Seems like good branding.
Cool news about the cafe operators.
CCOKC 06-21-2018, 07:09 PM The Scissortail lends itself to some pretty cool branding in general.
catch22 06-21-2018, 08:51 PM Donald Trump hair lol.
HOT ROD 06-21-2018, 10:31 PM I hope to Dear God, that if this cafe has any frontage along a street that it has a DOOR and WINDOWS along with at least a minimal but appropriate sign. I can't totally tell if it is inside the park a bit or will be exposed to the blvd; but if it is it MUST be inviting to it and not just have windows facing into the park. We must learn from this HUGE mistake at the otherwise perfectly executed Myriad Gardens.
Speaking of the MBG cafe, is there any way we can go in and redo or even expand it to where it too will have exposure along Robinson? I hope so because it is the only real hold-up at the city's best park.
shawnw 06-21-2018, 11:38 PM The MBG restaurant space is basically an event space now.
sooner88 06-22-2018, 01:30 AM These guys have specialized in fast casual before opening the Jones, so I think this will carryover well. I'm curious who the other options were? Tuck, did you all apply? It's hard to imagine the food offering to be very imaginative (I'm picturing a Shake Shack in Central Park), but this will be an awesome place to grab a cheap bite and beer.

We did not apply. I did talk with their development team about a year ago and they already had the cafe somewhat designed and a concept that they thought would work in the park. It brought back bad memories of the MBG restaurant, so I declined. Brian and his team will do a great job as I think they are giving him a lot of creative input.

Why do you say that? Their food at the Jones and Seven47 is fairly imaginative.

I'm not saying that they don't have the capability to be imaginative, I just picture the menu here being a little more "standard".... I could be wrong though.

The cafe is probably 50' off of the Blvd with storefront windows facing west and another facing south into the park.
turnpup 06-23-2018, 12:05 PM I like the logo. It made me think of the little birds from The Partridge Family intro: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065333/mediaviewer/rm3267531776
HOT ROD 06-27-2018, 10:51 AM good to know about the cafe's urban and inviting design.
I'd LOVE for Braums to partner with a developer to redesign the MGB cafe and run a flagship restaurant and Ice Cream store there. It'd be the ONLY flagship and would showcase all of their offerings yet have seating space for hundreds. Think something like Pops in a more relaxed, urban park setting with the redesign having facade and access from Robinson Ave.
Oh how to get this idea to them and the city, I wish!!!

To me, that's a horrible idea, I don't want someone with their track record running someplace as important as the MGB restaurant...

HOT ROD 08-01-2018, 04:29 PM so this will have a blank wall facing the boulevard after all? or does the pic make the wall appear too large?
^
That wall isn't that big and is a small percentage of the frontage.

Digging this. I'm looking forward to see what the menu will look like. Bogert has been successful in every effort to date and I'm optimistic we'll see more of the same. Can't wait!

But I dunno, I actually rather like the look of the logo. Excited to see what happens here!
OKC Guy 02-04-2019, 02:00 PM Its fine, nothing wrong. I do see some name challenges:
Caller: “yes officer, there is sparklers in the spark. I mean its in the park next to Spark. Sparklers, and its after curfew.”
On the other hand folks will easily remember this name. “Yes, we are Spark in the park, can’t miss us.”
Only question is, where do you park to get to Spark in the park?
PhiAlpha 02-04-2019, 05:10 PM Taking inspiration from the Park Harvey Building

Learned that this cafe won't open until the spring.
I went by there a few days ago and there is still tons to do.

That's unfortunate but I'm glad they are not rushing it, I think they picked a perfect operator and look forward to it's success. I wish some of our other publicly built spaces would up their dining game.
David 08-04-2019, 09:58 AM Good thing that the Social Capital OKC project is more on the ball, then.

I think it is killer.
shawnw 07-09-2021, 01:51 PM Finally
Love the food trucks but have shown up a number of times for them to be gone or out of food.
Like the places at Omni, but until the walk-up window is in use (haven't seen that be the case yet), not as useful at times.
Will be great to have a consistent, reliable option at the park.
Related, MBG foundation hired a person in charge of food stuff and is supposed to be working toward getting a new vendor at what was Ice House.

While there is still a sign on the door saying hiring, when you go to the website it says no openings (for Spark), so maybe soon......
I asked last week and was told mid-September; they had hoped to open at the beginning of summer.
Equipment and packaging delays.

Bun looks really good, and the burger doesn't look too tall.
Plutonic Panda 08-09-2021, 12:40 AM I’m not real crazy about the name. I thought I’d grow on me and it just hasn’t. The burger looks good though.
Timshel 08-09-2021, 10:19 AM Burger looks very solid. I get slight Shake Shack vibes, which is not a bad thing at all.

Spark set to open in Scissortail Park (https://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=749-Spark-set-to-open-in-Scissortail-Park)
After pandemic-driven disruptions in the various supply chains, the proprietors of the Jones Assembly are set to open Spark in Scissortail Park.
With an opening date set for Tuesday October 26th, Spark will offer a wide variety of burgers, fries, shakes, frozen custard as well as soft drinks, beer and wine at the north end of the park.
Spark will feature a large indoor dining area and beautiful covered patio with panoramic views of the park. Quick refreshments can be ordered from a walk-up window and a separate window will be used for to-go orders placed online.
All food and drink can be enjoyed at Spark or carried into the very popular park.
Hours will be 11 AM to 10 PM every day, regardless of the weather.

BoulderSooner 10-14-2021, 07:56 AM good stuff ..
I love the fact they are going to be open every day from early lunch to late.
The problem with all the food/drink places in the Myriad Gardens was the inconsistent hours. I tried to go to the various establishments and would almost always find them closed.
As busy as Scissortail Park is, I bet Spark does very well.
PoliSciGuy 10-14-2021, 08:12 AM Oh nice, no more having to guess what food trucks might be there when I take the kids to the park. Nice to have a consistent lunch option.
jn1780 10-14-2021, 08:24 AM Looks like an upscale Dairy Queen. Not saying that's a bad or good thing, just the type of food and color scheme I see in the pictures. DQ should be taking notes!
shawnw 10-14-2021, 08:59 AM Such a missed opportunity for more green LED lighting downtown, which we are sorely lacking
