I'm interested in getting my pilot's license and am hoping at least one (maybe some?) of the fine folks of OKCTalk can recommend a flight school. I'm also open to any and all advice from anyone who has gone through the process of learning to fly.

Many thanks in advance!

Any health issues? Make sure you will be able to pass the medical exam before you spend money on logged hours.

OU of course has a flight school with an entire fleet of planes, you might wanna check that out.

When we eat at the Runway Cafe, there have been some students out front getting ready to take off, you might check this:

I'm a current student pilot at Oklahoma Aviation.
We fly out of Wiley Post. Excellent experience so far.
Agree with the mentioned above, definitely get the medical first.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

Where do you get the medical exam - from your PCP?

you can get the medical at lots of places. I got mine near Tinker.

Also, even without doing the medical, you can contact a flight school and book a discovery flight. You'll go up and fly with an instructor. They'll handle the radios, takeoff and landing, but once at cruise, you'll get to fly and do some basic maneuvers.

Man, that discovery flight seems like it would be a great Father's Day gift. Going to have to drop some hints. :)

What's the cost of just the discovery flight?

Definitely a great gift!
Mine was $150 in a G1000 Cessna 172. Typically they're 100-200, depending on the school and aircraft.

At Sundance it's listed as $95.
