Key Midtown building to be restored, host 2 restaurants (http://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=499-Key-Midtown-building-to-be-restored-host-2-restaurants)
As we had previously reported, Jimmy's Egg and Riviere restaurants are under construction in Midtown at 905 N. Hudson.

Now, the owners have filed detailed renovation plans by Hornbeek-Blatt Architects showing the intent to remove unsightly plywood and return the original glass openings to the 1940's building that was most recently home to a drug recovery program.

Jimmy's Egg is a popular local breakfast chain and Riviere is a new operation that will specialize in Bahn Mi sandwiches and feature a bar. The two will split the building's 5,850 square feet.
The proposal submitted to the Downtown Design Review Committee indicate the original brick will be retained along with the clerestory glass block windows and the cast stone identification on the south elevation.
But all the storefronts will be replaced with new glass filling the openings and new metal awnings above.
On the south side of the building, Riviere will have outdoor tables and umbrellas.
The building is directly north of Elemental Coffee, across Hudson from Tamashii Ramen and the old Swanson's Tire building with Barrios, Hall's Pizza and other tenants is just to the north.

HOT ROD 05-18-2018, 12:09 PM I love this, Midtown is really filling in nicely. Really starting to reach critical mass as can be seen from Pete's pic above. ..
I -ONLY- wish there was a way to have glass windows added to the south wall so that you could look out to the patio area and the skyline. Otherwise, this will be a huge win for the neighbourhood - ban mi and a 24-hour LOCAL breakfast spot (right?).
Urbanized 05-18-2018, 09:05 PM What a terrible shame that across the street an absolutely beautiful row of charming buildings (better than anything nearby including these) was demolished circa 1999 because the owners didn't want to pay taxes on the buildings, or wanted to tear them down "for parking" or something else along that line. At the time there was no process whatsoever that could have headed this off. Wish I had photos of those buildings. Tried to intervene and encourage them to re-think, but they looked at me like I was from Mars. Pretty much nobody at the time was buying in this area other than Corsair. Man those buildings would have made a difference on this block. Again, wish I had photos.
^I've always wondered what that empty lot across the street was.
turnpup 05-19-2018, 11:44 AM Urbanized, remind us if you can what occupied the property where the new federal building now stands. Was the land already vacant when the project was begun, or did they tear things down for it. While I totally understand the rationale for it being closed to cars, I sure wish 7th still went through.

Dob Hooligan 11-21-2018, 09:50 AM I think the old building and urban construction issues have slowed completion. They think January or February is the timeframe for completion. Gonna be the only Jimmy's Egg with a bar. Looking forward to it.
shawnw 11-21-2018, 10:40 AM nice!

This is really starting to look sharp. What an improvement.

David 01-16-2019, 08:57 AM Bringing the glass back makes such a difference, and that always seems to happen in similar projects. Makes me wonder if this is something that could be regulated by code to at least prevent in the first place.

rte66man 02-03-2019, 08:30 AM Is Hudson getting resurfaced or is it another seemingly endless sewer line replacement?
Resurfaced in just that small area between 8th and 10th.
They are also adding proper curbs, sidewalks and drives on the east side of Hudson.
Looking north on Hudson from NW 8th:

shawnw 06-01-2019, 01:53 PM From H&8 last night, first is the Banh Mi place, second is Jimmy's egg. Looks very close to opening.

Jimmy's Egg is now open.
Riviere should open very soon.

This building finally has signs installed.

Richard at Remax 01-14-2020, 10:15 AM Nice infill. But man, I wish they could have done something different for the signage. Just looks out of place.
SEMIweather 01-16-2020, 03:10 AM Always a good sign when you have to put a large "WE ARE OPEN" banner on your building six months after the restaurants open.

They had that up before they installed the permanent signs.
Also, those storefronts are dark and it's hard to tell if they are open, especially during the day.
Anonymous. 01-16-2020, 09:12 AM So far Jimmys Egg is undiscovered down here. It is nice because on weekends tons of the hot brunch spots have massive wait times. You can easily get in and out of here and it is cheaper. The build your own Bloody Mary bar is pretty solid.
shawnw 01-16-2020, 08:47 PM wish they'd buck their elsewhere policy of closing at 2 tho. Based on the things nearby I think they'd do well being open longer, or at least re-opening for the after bars crowd.

That's a big hole I've noticed around OKC. When I was a teen I loved all night diners/coffee shops for my teen antics. In college it was the same for studying/late night drinking. It was also something I missed while working night shifts downtown.
OkiePoke 01-17-2020, 12:29 PM Went by this morning and we really enjoyed the experience. Seems a bit more modern with the decorations/paint scheme than other Jimmy's Eggs I've been to in the area. I would estimate about 30% full.
The waitress did mention they have been fairly slow. Hopefully people start patronizing this place.

I really think a 24-hour coffee shop could succeed in OKC, especially if it was located in the vicinity of NW 23rd and Classen.

If N. W. 23rd had a strip of shops/restaurants open 24 hrs besides your basic Taco Bell (drive thru) they could build some continuity to the area which could lead more 24 hr., openings to keep OKC from appearing dead at night.
It's amazing what one trailer like Bobos does for N. E. 23rd Street; they are (mixed multicultural group) on the way homers who take advantage of the 2 a.m., bar closings that force crowds out. They patronize the area for take home chicken & catfish.
Can't help but recall DC Sooners' observation of OKC not having any reputable (sit down) restaurants open after midnight. A small strip of 24 hour food sit down restaurants could take OKC to the next level to address late night activity. Think of the sobering affect it would have on the binge drinkers.
