Even just driving by on Hudson, it is so impressive. Only wish is that the power lines on Hudson had been buried, but oh well.

Went to their soft opening last night. This place will kill it. Over 120 different taps throughout the building. Three different bar locations. So much space. The bar overlooking the park will popular when the weather is good. Their menu is alright, nothing that would be considered a dinner, more appetizer like than anything. Great use of the outdoor space. Parking wasn't much of a concern when we got there.

Excited for a great bar to go to before/after Thunder games, concerts and other events downtown!

Social Capital opens today (https://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=663-Social-Capital-opens-today)

Just in time for the Scissortail Park grand opening, Social Capital opens Saturday at 4 PM and offers commanding views.

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/socialcapital092019a.jpg

The former transmission shop at 517 S. Hudson has been completely renovated with the addition of a large 2nd level and surrounding patios.

Boasting Oklahoma City's largest rooftop patio, it offers a great vantage point for the 38-acre park, the new Omni Hotel, convention center and skyline.

In addition to offering a staggering 120 Oklahoma beers on tap from there separate bars (the main bar on the ground level has 84 alone), there will also be a full cocktail and wine menu.

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/socialcapital092019k.jpg

The kitchen is divided in two; the north kitchen features hot foods such as gourmet street tacos and nachos. The south kitchen offers cold dishes like salads, Spanish-style charcuterie and ice cream made in house.

The outdoor space at ground level is dog-friendly and Social Capital is open for all ages until 8 PM.

Social Capital is operated by the Community Through Beer group which also owns the Patriarch in downtown Edmond. AHMM did the architecture and design work.

Stopped by this place for a beer tonight. Already had a decent crowd and there is absolutely nothing like that upstairs patio anywhere else in OKC - even Fassler can't quite compare in terms of location IMO. Very impressed.

Is that meter parking right there across the street. I'm sure it is. Coming to Carrie Underwood concert and wouldn't mind checking this place out. Don't see like a far walk to the arena either. If I could just park there for free after 6 pm even more of a win.

Parking meter enforcement in OKC is from 8-6, so either way you are good.

Went to the opening to check it out. Weather probably scared some off as it wasn't busy at all. But they had abundant staff ready for a rush. Left around 8pm Saturday and it was starting to pick up.

Service was solid except for it seemed the bartenders upstairs were new to bartending. Obviously the place is going to be a hit for the craft beer, but I noticed them having to read how to make mixed drinks for people anytime someone ordered a non-beer item.

The place is massive, on nice evenings with the park open, they will be shoveling money into the vault.

Prices were pretty good, even for the food - which is appetizer bar food style. The nachos were $8 I think, and they were a solid portion and tasted great.

I stopped by SC and I’m really impressed overall, but especially that they have 84 Oklahoma beers on tap... and that’s just downstairs. I’ve been to beer spots all over the country and never seen a place with that many local beers. Also, the taco was good:

Dankrutka,
Good information. I prefer to have a pint or three of local beers. They are a little pricey but I prefer to keep my money in Oklahoma. Too bad I don't drive anymore, I would love Social Capital. Dang, 84? At my age I could have one of each and die happy!

I dropped in on Saturday and was taken aback by how large the space is. The surrounding roads were blocked off so it was a tiny hike to get there and the crowd size reflected this. I hope that they have plans to add large planters throughout the patio areas because it is quite bare. As for the inside, it feels like an airport terminal more than a bar/restaurant. I hate to be so critical, as I'm sure the aesthetics will all be finished soon, but I'm just not really feeling the vibe. The view of the park is fantastic, but as for a nightlife destination, for now, that's not enough to keep me there after being spoiled by Uptown, Midtown and The Plaza being so walk-able.

With the roads blocked off over the weekend, it made me realize the sidewalk situation on the west side of Hudson between Social Capital and the OKCBLVD doesn't exist. In fact, the little corners of each intersection have the sidewalk ADA ramp dump off into the parallel parking spots...?

At least the way it was explained to me (which could be wrong), I think at least some of the upstairs beers are the same so the total number of Oklahoma beers is between 84 and 120. So, 120 taps. Either way, I've never seen that many local beers at any place anywhere in the U.S.

Went last night around 8:00 PM and the upstairs was full but there were several places to sit at the communal tables. Surprisingly, there were several families with small kids.

It was a near-perfect night and I was shocked at how many cars were down there... All the parking along Hudson was taken and there had to have been 100 cars in the vacant lots south of Social Cap. (There will be much more parking in the lot south of the convention center when that construction wraps in a year or so.)

There were a surprising amount of people in the park which had to account for the cars because the bar wasn't super busy; apart from upstairs there wasn't much going on the lower level.

Tons of people whizzed by on scooters; really more activity than I would have expected.

Was downtown today checking to make sure my properties weren't damaged and the wife and I thought we would go by for mimosas. At 1050...looked completely closed and appeared no one there. Drove off thinking they don't open till late. Wife looked on internet and said open at 11 so swung back by. After sitting directly in front looking for activity we finally go out about 1103-1105 and walked up to doors. Could see people inside on other side of glass but they wouldn't look at us or indicate they were opening. We start to walk off and finally someone opens one of the garage doors. We asked if they were open now and she just walked off. Wife and I just looked at each other and about the same time said that maybe we don't need to go here if staff is that indifferent.. As we were going through this...two other cars had pulled up and left probably thinking it wan't open either. Very bizarre.

I realize this is an old post but I got curious. 1. Do you use a debit card? If so, and as long as it has a Visa/MC logo, it should work, and 2. Did you know other people can put your rides on their accounts?
My mom has no credit cards, hates taxis, but no longer drives. We hail rides for her on Uber and she is just thrilled with it. She doesn't have to do anything except chat with the driver, which is one of her favorite things.

No, I don't have a debit card. I don't have anybody I would ask to do that for me. I suppose I will have to use taxis, but don't feel sorry for me, it's my choice to live with cash (I do have an ATM card). I'm retired and live alone. I'll probably survive.

TFCU (and BOK) and I'm sure there are others. I don't want a debit card because they don't have the limitation for fraud that a credit card has. If somebody steals your debit card and has your pin, they can empty your account. There is a limit, but it's a lot higher than the $50 limit on credit cards.

Hey C.T., if the fraud protection is the only thing keeping you from a debit card, my Discover debit is capable of being frozen in their mobile app if you lose it or it's stolen. It also has 1% cashback. Just something to consider.

BOK was really good to me until I had forged checks written and a huge charge at Walmart and even though they were liable it took a long time to return my money and I lost my special account. I closed my account and went to TFCU.

I should add, my transportation is a mobility scooter (4 mph max) so when I scoot down the sidewalks to grocery shop I'm vulnerable, that's the main reason I don't carry any cards. Exception, when I need cash I grab my ATM card and go to the ATM. When I get home I lock most of it in my desk. But I know I'm vulnerable when I have a pocketful of money from the ATM. The sad story of an old man on oxygen. Don't you feel sorry for me? Ok, don't answer that, I can have my own "pity partys" without your help.

dankrutka

What do they mean by “deep clean”? Just cleaning will suffice. COVID-19 isn’t hiding for days in a closed restaurant. Research increasingly suggests fomite transmission on surfaces does not seem to be a primary method of spreading. Businesses really should dedicate energy to developing clear protocols like one way walk ways, no contact ordering, plexiglass for ordering, cooling outdoor spaces with misters, etc. Not that cleaning is bad, but it’s not the most effective way to stop the spread.

jbkrems
06-28-2020, 02:19 PM
They are probably bringing in a company like "Virus Control" to do their thing. That is a "deep clean."
