Wow this is shocking. Honestly I think the location has more to do with it. Yea the Flea does okay, but this place cost way more $ for operations.

Tend to agree. The Flea isn't a good comparison (and whether Banquet intended it or not, I definitely got more of a bar vibe than a restaurant vibe from the space so I'm not sure that Sunnyside and Rev are great comparisons either). While Banquet isn't in a horrible location, it's still far enough away from the rest of Midtown/Downtown that it wasn't ever going to get much walk in business or be part of the core Midtown bar scene, especially with the condition of the roads and the sidewalks in the immediate vicinity (walked/Limed from midtown one time and it was a hike/not a comfortable trip - didn't have any desire to do it again, especially in this summer heat).

I really liked the build out of the bar area, but it was huge and obviously was too much for the current patronage. Even when there were a decent number of people in there it could seem almost empty - but on the two times I was there when it was packed (soft open and the Down to Dunk draft party) it was a blast. I was really hoping they would make it to football season as it would have been a great place to watch a game (which could have provided a surge in bar revenue).

The theaters definitely were not Penn Square or the Warren but they weren't nearly as bad as some have made them out to be. Was exactly what I would expect for this type of theater. Saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last weekend in a completely sold out theater and it was a great experience. They were working on getting a second projector able to show first-run films so they could have new movies in both theaters - too bad they couldn't make it work. I think this type of concept can be successful with a mix of a better location/smaller bar area/better marketing.

EDIT: Ross posted while I was typing this novel out - glad to see they're not giving up on the concept yet - hopefully they can make something work!

Oklahoman reporting this place is closing.

Barely made it 6 months after substantial investment.

Fake news from the Oklahoman.

Good thing you give proper credit to your sources Pete! haha

They have way too big an investment just to close down and walk away.

If they were smart, they'll change their name and do everything they can to rebrand.

I had a friend who went a few times and he basically said they’re not the best at anything.
-better places to see a movie
-better places to drink
-better places to eat
-better places to watch a game

So it’s kinda hard in this hyper competitive market to be good at 5 things but great at none.

I'm not sure what the confusion here is between closing for now and closing forever.

No confusion.
People say lot of thing and one is "temporary closure to re organize" but in most of the case it never comes back from that.
I dont wish ill on anybody but historically when a place says that it does not look for their future.
So saying it does not make it true not, until the fact says so

I agree with some of the other comments here. I went here a couple times and my biggest issue was the atmosphere--or more accurately, the lack of it. There was no real cohesion to the space and it didn't feel like a great place to hang out. I think that's partially due to how big it is, so it almost feel cavernous. I hope they come up with a new concept that works well for the space, because it has a lot of potential and I really like the proprietors' willingness to take risks and be bold.

They definitely could do a lot more, it almost seemed like that space was an after thought. There were a few shuffle board tables, etc. but other than that it was just an awkward space to hang out unless you were there for a movie.

Lots of thoughts but one in particular. I owned the building and land at Dewey and 4th. A big reason that I ultimately sold all of it is in great part to how desolate 4th Street feels. The entire area feels desolate with little critical mass or cohesion. It will change. A pedestrian oriented streetscape would be a huge help. Go three blocks north and the vibe feels like an actual neighborhood.

This is what I was getting at as well previously. If they just stayed the course in a short time the Bower will be online and hopefully soonish the new complex across the street will go in. 4th is also due bikewalkokc refurbishment. All these things would help.

The 'temporary' closure is at 5 months and counting.

A ton of money was spent on this space but I've yet to see any signs of rebirth as a brewery or anything else.

Even if another movie operator would take it over for a minute, like OKC MOA, Tower, or Rodeo, and use it for additional movie screenings it would be better than letting it rot.

This is what is planned for this space:

consumption lounge
This will be a smoking bar. We will have a simple food menu, we will also sell mixed drinks, beer and wine (so we will obtain an alcohol license). This will be what is classified as a Cannabis Cafe or a Consumption Lounge. There will be no cannabis sold in the bar itself, but we do have approval from the OMMA, Able Commission & the OKC Police Department to open this as a smoking bar. We will not make any changes to the blue print of the facility, but we will need to obtain a change of use permit.

Well the cinema has been closed for a year, so that ship sailed as far as lamenting what could have been. It is better to see if the new use is more profitable than the cinema was.

Honestly this is cool. Sell junk food and beer and let people relax like they already do in their backyards and garages while lighting up.

This will probably be successful because this location is still a destination place, not a casual passerby location.

Work continues on this space for the consumption lounge.

There are a couple of people working there almost every time I go by.

I noticed video gaming chairs and screens along Shartel.

I'm not sure of the name; that was just the description in the permit.

This is a very big space. They are going to need lots of luck.

Guys, this is smoking. “Cancer sticks”, “coffin nails”, “lung darts”...gallows humor is very popular among people who engage in self-destructive activities.

Just wish they’d call it C.O.P.Dive

There haven't been any building permits or any other filings, so I suspect they are just cleaning it out.

Hopefully with the massive apartment complex going in next door this building can finally get the shot it deserves.
Was not the demographic for 3 cubed so I can't speak to it, but I loved Banquet Cinema and have always thought it was a cool building since I moved to OKC, used to pass it on my commute every day.

Yea the new concept is the same owner that runs the promotion for a lot of the EDM scene in OKC, Tulsa, and even Wichita. Which that scene has a very large following and you can bet there will be some influence of that into this nightlife concept.

If you like gorgeous spaces, sharable plates, cocktails, champagne, and music, Glamour Dining & Nightlife is an ambitious new restaurant and bar that you'll want to experience in person.

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/glamour051723j.jpg

Located at 800 NW 4th just west of downtown, it's huge and beautiful with three separate concepts under one roof.

The largest area greets you as you enter and has a huge bar, lots of tables and booths, and scores of chandeliers. Small plates will be served for dinner and then later the lights go down and the music gets turned up. There are plenty of alcoves for socializing.

Next is Vanity, a separate ultra-lounge that is dark with a chill vibe with another large bar.

And then there is Vinyl which has a large stage and will host live music, comedy shows, and high-energy DJs and it also has its own bar.

Featured throughout are elaborate lighting and video screens and high-end sound systems. They will also be adding a large patio out front.

They will officially open their doors on May 31st. Hours will be 4 PM to midnight Wednesday and Thursday, extending to 2 AM on Fridays. Saturday will be open at 10:30 AM for brunch with closing at 2 AM. Sunday will also start brunch at 10:30 with a closing time of midnight.

I think it will.

The key is not using dodgy promoters that recruit the stabby/shooty crowd.
