My company’s network team informed me that when I visit OKCTalk, they can see a script running that is using my pc’s resources to help mine bitcoin. Is this supposed to be happening or are they off base?

Would be if either the user or at the very least the site got something from it. But it's a bad ad, I guarantee it. I'm astounded the ads aren't blocked at the corporate level, as this is exactly why many do so.

I haven't seen this but if you could send me the ad I can block it from the site.

I would expect more CPU/GPU usage if that is the case. Currently have an image editor, two instances of Chrome, 8 browser tabs, Xbox app, Steam, and Sticky Notes open running and system isn' really working very hard:

Can you run a MalwareBytes scan to check? Your IT dept may have to install it for you.

I was a little confused when they approached me and asked me if I was intentionally visiting OKCTalk frequently throughout the day (oops haha). They said every time I visit the site there is a script that runs and uses my resources. That's all they told me.

Well, I was told the same thing this week at work. Out of a little over 700 in my office they had found that 5 of us had this same script running. They said when I closed the site then it would quit running. Nothing malicious was left on my machine. As a result, OKCTalk has now been blocked in my office.

Turn off Javascript in your browsers. Problem solved.
