Surely, most people who get such long prison terms over drugs get it shortened, especially if first felony. Patrica Spottedcrow initially got 12 years and had to stay only a little over 2 years.

Oklahomans tolerated its prohibition of alcohol with it being legal in neighboring states for a long time, until it was legalized in 1959. That helps explain why people like you think Oklahoma still has a long time to go before it legalizes rec. marijuana.
So, now that you know more about that story, do you still maintain that it was all about racism?

Do you consider Colorado a bordering state?

Yes, but very few people live out in that part of the state and Colorado and Oklahoma are probably as culturally different as it's possible to get. Oklahoma will be far more impacted whenever Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, or Texas legalizes since those states are much more accessible for a majority of Oklahomans and all of them are much more culturally similar to Oklahoma than Colorado is.

No, but I don't like how child molesters can get shorter terms in prison than someone convicted of selling a small amount of drugs. Until SQ780 was passed, some child molesters were getting shorter prison terms than what people would get for just drug possession stronger than pot, such as meth. At least things aren't going from bad to worse.

Don't disagree with you there.

Yeah I think Oklahoma is still decades away from recreational marijuana and I base that assumption on the fact that Oklahoma is one of the last states to come around on social issues and repealing blue laws.
A recent poll showed that 37% of Oklahomans approve of legalizing rec marijuana. So you got that to help support your point as well. I'll think it's decades away for sure, if Oklahoma voters in June don't vote in favor of medical marijuana, SQ 788. Republican candidate for governor, Gary, Richardson, has been trying to mislead voters by saying he is voting no, because to him, it's the same thing as rec. As he puts it, "I can support a true MM bill. 788 is no more than a recreational bill. One can go to the doctor with a mosquito bite and get a 2 year prescription." But he adds, " If the people vote it in, I will support it".

Well, he's doing better than the idiots in the legislature that want to kneecap the bill before it's even voted on, he gets points for that.

I left Oklahoma in 2015 and I did not look back. I don't even live in America anymore. When I do move back to America I don't think I'll live in Oklahoma. I did like everyone else. I got a degree and left there really is no point in staying.

You didn't look back? Yet you spend your time on a message board about Oklahoma City? Also, I'm from here, have a degree and chose to stay here, wild concept.

If moving back to Oklahoma, don't dare choose any of the backward, rural counties.. Shocking, but the average age at death in Atoka County is 36, probably due to drug overdoses. There's so little to do, other than to get high, I guess.

That's become a problem all over rural America.... Ran into an old friend from my hometown in Kansas on social media a while back and he commented that you did one of two things there... Got out or did drugs.

Well, there's a third thing, and it explains the teen pregnancy rate.

OKCtalk is largely shielded from the majority Oklahama opinion or intelligence level. Reading local news stations Facebook posts comment sections is eye opening though.

Some people may roll their eyes at that, but Facebook is without a doubt the greatest census/opinion collection in history.

Seeing some of the garbage you see spewed on any news stations comments and actually supported is astonishing. Really makes me embarrassed to be associated with some of those people.

Couldn't agree more.... Some of the beliefs/opinions I see written on FB truly scare me. The fact that a lot of these people have multiple children and are teaching them the same scares me even more for future generations.

I think the ones that get to me the most are the ones that like to point back to how much better things were in the past to try and make a point like murder, racism, sexual assault, etc.... Didn't happen back then because we said prayers in school, spanked our children, blah, blah, blah.

Even if you are of the Christian faith one of the first stories in the bible involves a brother killing a brother..... So tell me again exactly when we didn't commit crimes against each other in the past?

Not exclusive to Oklahoma though, it's anywhere in this country but likely more prevalent in the South.

Well FB is pretty much worldwide... So yeah... Not exclusive to the United States even.

The Trump era has really emboldened the theocrats. Oklahoma has some of the worst bills yet again this year, but several other Southern states have bills that really give Oklahoma a run for its money, especially on the LGBTQ front. It's an all-out assault on the LGBTQ community in South Carolina this year.

In Oklahoma, it seems like fear of marijuana legalization as well as trying to inject fundamentalist Christianity into schools is the big thing this year. There are a few anti-LGBTQ bills this year but not as many as previous years.

I'm getting closer and closer to the final straw and just leaving for a blue state or at least a more libertarian-minded red one.

I'm not leaving the state but I am in the process of dropping out of society and moving to my farm in south central Oklahoma and making it as self-sufficient as possible to live out the remainder of my life..... As long as they don't try to come after private property I'm pretty much set.

Been chasing the carrot my entire adult life and have realized I've never been happier than I am when I'm puttering around on the farm away from all the drama of society..... Realize that doesn't work for everyone but it does for me.

Good for you! When someone can get to that point of having figured it out--whatever it may mean to the individual--it's a true eye-opener. But you're still going to come up to do some barbecuing, right? :)

I don't want to get your hopes to high but there is a small possibility that some of my BBQ could become available to the public at some point in time.

My sister does catering on the side and she's considering starting a food truck and wants to feature my pulled pork on her menu. If we can come to terms and can find a place for me to cook that meets HD requirements. It is one way I may be able to make some money to pay for insurance and property taxes.
