You could have the exact same number of surface parking spaces that they have now and organize the site plan in a different way to minimize the visual blight of the parking and make the whole thing more cohesive. (See any number of examples.) But I think what has happened is that the developers didn't really start out with a "plan," per se. They were hoping to attract a number of different uses and have been sort of "making it up" as they go along. I don't know to what degree any of these projects are even really trying to interact with each other. It's an opportunity lost in terms of creating something special.

All that said, I am willing to forgive a lot because this is in a part of town that desperately needs this development. It's MUCH, MUCH better than a strip mall with a Wal-Mart on one end, a Hobby Lobby on the other and a Dollar General in the middle. Maybe a Chick Fil A and a Taco Bell on pad sites in the parking lot. And that is what OKC gets a lot of.

I think there is this thinking that well-coordinated design has to be reserved for upscale places like The Oak. I don't really think it does. It just takes imagination.

That PopStroke being formally announced can’t come soon enough….

They really need to get going on the food options. I keep hearing they have numerous pad sites for restaurants, but as yet no announcements. I still hope for Pappadeaux but will settle for Taco Bell at this point.

If they took the Chisholm Creek lake and restaurant and development, this place would do great. Right now its just two entertainment venues that offer their own food so the lack of food choices hasn't really hurt them. I'm sure the Dolese and apartment residents would be happy.

First of all Oak is a very different idea from the Half. The Half is definitely inspired by the Grandscape in Dallas and other developments like it. Oak is made for Retail and Restaurants and the Half for the most part is an Entertainment development. It also has more room to develop larger venues than Oak. Comparing the two as if they are the same type of development is hurting any arguments for better parking.
