I think this would work in many places in the US. Maybe not here yet, since we don't have very high pedestrian density quite yet but IDK.. I do know that when many of the stop lights were out last year on park/harvey/rob due to project 180 construction and all we had were stop signs, vehicular and pedestrian traffic flowed and worked together much more smoothly.

also, their concerns about disabled people are important. I could see how this type of design scheme, while great for many people, could be a nightmare for the blind.

What happens if pedestrian trends make it where people crowd the road instead of using sidewalks? Can cars no longer pass through? Or does it become like driving through cities in the Middle East where you have to lay on the horn and putter along at 5mph because nobody is willing to move?
