Ned Shadid of Ned's Catering (an OKC institution) has leased the former Nomad's space and will be opening a restaurant and full bar at 7301 N. May.

Jacob Simon of Emersons Commercial Real Estate brokered the lease.

Should be open in about 6 months.

Nice.... I drove by that building a few days ago and was wondering how long it would set empty.

I assume the younger Ned? (not the father?)

Ned's catered our wedding and everything was amazing! From the food to the service to the cleanup. We'll definitely be one of the first customers.

Is this the "Ned's" that had a pizza place at about 30th and North May? I really used to enjoy the pizza there. It was greasy, but had a great flavor.

Sign's up, looks nice, will look pretty cool at night, I expect. Oh, and I think it's Starlite, not Starlight.

I drove by yesterday and saw the sign, very cool and retro. I’m a huge fan of neon. There’s a patio construction underway. I have no idea what the concept is but I’m glad to see the sussy’s building doing something after what feels like a decade of abandonment, all the furniture and window treatments still in place.

From the outside it looks like they are flying. But any place that’s one off or new vs a 40th garage burgers or a chain can take some time. This was an Italian restaurant for like? 30 years before it closed...and i think it burned down once before.

Ned is a good friend of mine; we went all the way through PC schools together and most know he's been a fantastic caterer.

They are still about 3 weeks out. Hope to have a full story with a bunch of interior photos soon.

and most know he's been a fantastic caterer.

We hired Ned several years ago to cater our wedding. Can’t recall exactly what was going on but Ned got sick or something, but he was mia a lot during the planning. Ned Jr was practically running the show. Then comes our big day and Ned Sr was in the hospital for whatever his ailment was and my wife was a wreck, knowing that Ned Jr was in charge. The reception went off without a hitch and Ned Jr absolutely blew us away. 450 guests and Ned Jr wasn’t the least bit concerned that his dad wasn’t there to run things.

Ever since, we recommend Neds Catering to everyone we know. I think I actually told this story on here a few years back when Ned’s was brought up, but I can’t help it. They truly made our night one that we’ll never forget. Food was wonderful and we have some pretty high standards in our large family. Service and follow-through from Ned Jr was impeccable. When their restaurant opens, we’ll definitely be regulars. I hope they knock it out of the park!

Opens next Monday for lunch, dinner and late night.

Disclaimer: Ned is a friend of mine who I've known since we both were kids. However, I can objectively say this place has me very excited.

First of all, it's very cool with lots of retro details. But more important, the food was very good and the service fantastic.

It reminds me a lot of R&J Supper Club but more food-forward, although the bar is large and prominently featured in the center of the room.

Here is a little glimpse with more images at the Gazette and we'll have a full write-up on the place next week: https://www.okgazette.com/oklahoma/okg-sneak-peek-neds-starlite-lounge-in-nw-okc/Content?oid=4444984

Did anyone ever reply about Ned's Restaurant on May? That was my favorite place ever. Many happy birthdays there with their pizza and chef salad, listening to the jukebox (selected the songs from your table). I wish someone could duplicate their pizza and salad dressing!!!

We had a really good dinner here tonight. Fun place and it was hopping after the OU game. This has the makings of a great spot in my view.

Stopped in last night around 6:30 and they were very busy, and on a Tuesday.

Had a fantastic poblano chicken fried steak. Their mashed potatoes may be the best I've ever had.

They are still struggling with beer supply. Zero beers on tap (about 10 taps) and only a few local beers. I think the new changes and supply network has been hard on the newer, smaller operations.

Saw this article in the 405 magazine and remember I ate here not long ago and it was great food. This would be an awesome late night establishment to have especially after clubbing or bar hopping at 3-4am.

Ned Sr. and I went to high school together and he and his family are great people and are always working in the kitchen.

I've been many times and have always loved the food and atmosphere.

They have live music on the weekends. Really a great place that is too often overlooked.

Have these guys had an ownership or management change? Finally made it in there and it was...not what I expected. Was thinking RJ's supper club vibe, was more of a Wicked Piston meets Sophabella's vibe (both of which are long gone). Had drinks and apps at the bar. Are they going for more of a dive bar feel?

The vibe is really strange. We have ordered food to go and it was very good.

The ownership is the same, Ned Shadid and his son Ned Jr. They have been catering for 40 years.

I like the space and food a great deal.

They often have live music on weekend nights.

We had Ned's cater my work's Thanksgiving lunch and the food was OUTSTANDING. It's actually probably ruined my real Thanksgiving because I don't see my meal topping theirs.

I graduated high school with Ned Sr. and consider him a friend.

I organize our class reunions and Ned has catered several with up to 400 people, and he does an excellent job. He used to operate the former Homebuilders event center near I-44 and Grand before it was sold to Chesapeake; it's now owned by MidFirst.

Ned's Catering has a great reputation. I know he used to do the catering for OSU football suites.

My high school class has several prominent restaurateurs: Ned Shadid, Amy Rollins (owns/runs Castle Falls), Randy Kamp (owns/runs Kamp's), Ed Lynn (owns/runs several local Buffalo Wild Wings), and Kurt Shewmaker (area director for Good Egg Dining). The food is always great at our reunions!

No.

Ed only has the one on NW Expressway and then a bunch in smaller towns across the state.

There is another franchisee that has the other OKC locations, including the proposed new concept store at 164th & Portland.

At the end of the day, all BWW are owned by a corporate entity, currently it is Inspire out of Georgia, was previously part of Yum. It's all the same stuff, so at least you know what you are getting, if you like that kind of thing.

So are they running their catering business out of Starlite Lounge? That might explain some stuff. Large scale catering vs intimate club vibe are very different choices.

Not sure what you are trying to get at. Ned’s has a great atmosphere and very good food. They also have a great catering business. One doesn’t affect the other.

This is the equivalent of the Yelp! reviews that say "Great food, good service, go there!" WHY did you regret it? Details matter...

Had a few beers at the bar. The bartender was prepping for cocktail service. She seemed annoyed when we asked for another round. We took advantage of the appetizer special, the chips and queso. The chips were pretty good but those two small bowls of queso were really low grade, it's as if I could actually taste the metal can that they were poured from. There were plenty of regulars, they seemed to have a good time. Based on that experience I won't get to the point of becoming a regular. I really wanted this place to be better than it was.

I can assure you they don't make queso by pouring it out of a metal can. And it doesn't seem like a place you might fit in, so, I hope you find your place.

Everybody doesn't like everything, so I get it. But Ned and Jr are quality people with a quality attitude and product.

I fit in almost everywhere, I am extremely malleable and forgiving. I didn't like my time spent at Kong's. Maybe I was at Ned's at an "off night". Either way, if you're in the service industry you probably want to know if someone had a less than comfortable experience at your establishment.

Just saw thier post on Instagram, they are shutting down permanenty effecting immediately. This is what they posted as the caption on their IG post:

Unfortunately, this is happening frequently in our industry and we are next in line. Ned’s Starlite Lounge will be closing effective immediately. Over the past five years we have had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best employees, some of the best patrons, and have been a part of some of the best celebrations! We thank our wonderful friends & employees (who over the years have become family) and vendors because without these people our business was not possible! Our love and friendship goes out toward everyone that supported us, whether daily, weekly, or yearly you helped support our small business and our family. We want to thank every last one of you all for giving us that amazing experience!

Sad stuff to see them close. I wonder what the reason is for?

Drinking, yes, but not much going on regarding food. It had really just turned into a very nice dive bar, IMHO.
