I have, a couple of times. Honestly, I wasn't impressed. I'm more of a purist. Keep it simple with the toppings and flavors. That said, my pre-teen cousins love all that crap they put on them. Give me a Missy's glazed or chocolate any day.

I occasionally love a Hurt's blueberry streusel donut or the maple bacon long john, but most of the others have way too many toppings and I'd rather have a Dunkin' Donuts coconut cake donut.

I also don't like Hurts. We get them at work every week and I just don't like them. Too dry for me.

^^^. Same thing about the dryness. Take the fruit loops and other stuff off and these doughnuts can't stand on their own. Gourmet Donut on Porter has a superior product.

The couple of times I tried Hurts donuts with cereal on them. The cereal always had a stale quality to it... Not so much the taste but the texture.

Yeah, I like Hurts but that's been my experience with the cereal donuts as well. Very stale.

Missy's is darn good. They now have a second location at 33hwy and I-35. One of our coworkers who lives a bit north of there usually brings in a load every Friday, and they're almost always still warm. A week ago last Friday, he couldn't make it, so he asked me if I would go pick up the order. I said no problem, and drove from west Edmond up to Guthrie at 6:00a to get them.... $83 worth.

By the way, their chocolate bread is awesome.

The name is going to make it confusing for the joke when you ask someone if they want a hurts don't it and then punch them in the arm.

They are purposely keeping the exact location a secret.

Just talked to the owner who said they would be doing a scavenger hunt type of thing after the first of the year along with all types of donut prizes.

Hurts is out of Springfield, MO and this will be their 17th (!) location.

This is a shame to hear. I've never been to Hurts, but I've spent a lot of time in the prototype hipster donut shop--Voodoo Donut in Oregon. Those donuts definitely stand on their own, regardless of the weirdo topings.

Lol nope, I enjoy a few of their donuts but don't get the chance to get down to Norman often. The Jesus donut is amazing, so maybe it's a good thing that it isn't any closer or on my commute.

Wife and I tried them once and thought it was terrible. Bacon long john was about as dry/stale as a donut that I've ever had. Most likely been sitting there for at least several hours. Even a half day old donut from Dunkin wasn't as bad. We also had a cake donut and it wasn't as bad but way too sweet. This was over a year ago, so I can't remember what topping we had on the cake donut. The donuts definitely look cool when placed in a box with all the various toppings, but the quality is nowhere near any of the local mom-and-pop shops in town. Give me a traditional donut from AM Donuts, Best Donuts, or Daylight on Hefner/Penn any day of the week.

Why not? They have a fairly good following. They will attract people to the Uptown district during the morning and day. Im not a huge a fan of their donuts, but I know many who are. I think they will do good and bring a different mix of people to the area.

Yes, well under construction.

In that case, I want official signage to refer to the western portion of Uptown as the Fried Chicken Subdistrict, and the eastern portion as the Donut Subdistrict.

Yea when they posted those pics it was super obvious from the windows alone. Then you see the vault.

This location is going to kill it. The bar crowd will flock here post 2am.

Anyone know if the other side of this building also has a basement? I've heard rumblings of a bar going in the basement, but if Hurts is the only side that has a basement I would assume the bar idea is kaput.

Yeah, they had asked me to sit on the exact location which I did for a couple of months.

But then people started figuring it out and they agreed that it was probably best just to put the word out.

Really excited to see this old building come back to life and their space should be quite cool. That Old School Bagels in the Rise seems to stay very busy so I suspect this new place is going to kill it.

Yes, went last night for a bit of a soft opening.

The place is super cool and on a highly visible corner, although their signage is not up just yet. They are going to get a lot of business, including late night.

Hoping it’s temporary as it’s just a panel inside the old bank box sign. Also hoping I can withstand the smell of fried bread every time I step outside my house for better or worse.

No offense to Hurts. I do like their VOODOO approach to things. However, if you want to support a local startup, go to Holy Rollers up the street to the Plaza in the Paseo Plunge. Their artisan doughnuts kick ass. Slightly different animals and I am hoping both are equally successful. Best to both of them.

No offense to Holey Rollers. I get that theyre vegan and gluten-free. But they’re not really donuts. Only had one experience with them but I essentially got cake in the shape of a donut. And yes, I know what cake donuts are. Still not the same as cake donuts. So yes, very different animals.

Yeah... I only camp out to go fishing or hunting and now that I have a log cabin in the Arbuckles it's more like glamping.

While they may be different from what you get at a traditional donut shop, Holey Rollers are a game-changer for my family. My son has a severe dairy allergy and had never been able to have a donut before they opened. Watching him bite into a chocolate donut was a HUGE thing for him and really special for a family that is rarely able to go out to eat at all for his safety.

I actually prefer Holey Roller's donuts to any other donut--and I have no dietary limitations. Every donut I have had from there has been incredibly moist and filling. Sure, it's not your typical light and fluffy glazed donut, but I suppose that's not all I look for when my sweet tooth makes an appearance. Stories like above give me even more reason to spend my money at this local business.

As for Hurts, I really hope their OKC location is more impressive than their Norman one. Perhaps it's a case of pushing a rope uphill, because I have no appetite for sprinkles or any other kind of donut toppings. Freshness is king and I've yet to have a donut from them that didn't taste like it had been sitting out for 12 hours.

Yeah I really love Holey Rollers. Something about the place makes me feel OK with pragmatic and healthy donut consumption. I’m not a huge sweets eater, but I am a fatty, and for some reason at a typical donut shop my inclination is to get a couple, or even worse take an unneeded dozen home. Holey Rollers feels more like a coffee shop to me, so several times I’ve gone and not even had a donut at all. When I have, one felt perfectly appropriate. Also, they’re delicious.

Someone brought Hurts in to my wife's workplace yesterday and she won't eat Hurts because they taste day-old, and she asked a woman she worked with how hers was and she said the same thing. Why are they so popular if everybody that I read about or hear about says they taste day-old?

I've never thought the donuts tasted day old but if you go with any of them that have breakfast cereal for toppings the cereal has a stale/damp texture to it.

The maple bacon longjohn is good but it even suffers the same effect with the bacon... Instead of being crispy it becomes chewy.

I sampled several different types and they were all fresh and quite good.

Some people prefer the elaborate toppings, some do not. They have a huge following in other markets and I'm sure they will do very well at this new location.

I can tell you the local owner and all the employees there are fantastic. Great service and enthusiasm.

Hurts is also mostly powered off of inebriated people. If you look @ their locations around the country, they seek late-night bar districts. Those customers usually won't have complaints about freshness of donuts @ 3am.
