What is the source for the "14 miles" and "20 minutes" that keeps being thrown around? Legitimately asking with no agenda here. I don't recall seeing it in any of the reporting. Obviously there WAS some elapsed time involved, because it allowed the pickup driver to call ahead and arrange for an ambush.

14 miles quoted in the news here:

http://www.newson6.com/story/36371059/man-tells-his-side-of-road-rage-video

Comments following stories linked upthread ranged from 20 minutes to 20 miles.

A lot of people need to freshen up on their self defense rules if they are carrying weapons after reading this thread.

You mean like in a CCW Class?

Any kind of self defense. "I was scared for my family" stopped being a valid justification for anything about 60 seconds into the encounter, yet people keep on bringing that up as some sort of justification for anything.

But like I said earlier, people still think Ersland was innocent, so that's not surprising.

So you're perfectly okay with a group of bikers harassing a truck driver (who was obviously the instigator and in the wrong) for 14 miles? What if YOU accidentally or even unknowingly cut a biker off and 20 of them harass YOU for 14 miles?

I'd call 911 and get looped in with whatever dispatch is relevant and get myself heading in the direction of the nearest law enforcement officer.

I've done that actually. Had a couple of kids throw what I think was a brick at my car on I-44 years ago. I caught up and got their tag and tried to drive away, they started chasing me so I called the cops and led them right to a Walgreens parking lot. The idiots never even noticed the police car 15 feet from where I pulled over. They got out of the car all tough but suddenly turned white as sheets when they saw the cop standing there.

A friend sent me this video today and it made me think of this whole incident.

I guess this was near Bixby?

Does not put our state in good light, to say the least.

No, it was near Maramec, not near Bixby. The 3 charged with felonies were from around there: http://www.stwnewspress.com/news/update-three-charged-in-road-rage-incident/article_8e8e4964-79ca-5651-bcdf-2a0a564b234f.html

It's not rocket science. I'm amazed that people think that committing multiple felonies was the only reasonable choice offered.

This. Let the police handle the situation - it's what they're trained and paid to do.

Unfortunately that's not the mindset of the Bubba Syndicate..... Real men don't need the police to do the job that by god Smith & Wesson was put on this planet to do.

I love small town, rural, America... Grew up in it and plan to return to it.... And not all people from that lifestyle are like this. Just as in all facets of society most are good people but you only need to spend one morning in a small town cafe listening to the locals to know that none of the worlds problems can't be solved with a bigger boot to stomp a mudhole in said problem.

Just read comments on social media to see the same.

The point that seems to be forgotten is that had the cyclists bothered to pull over and let the guy pass in the first place, we would not even be having this conversation.

As someone noted, you never know who you are dealing with, what they are armed with or how they will react. Confrontation may have been alright when people would have exchanged a few words 30 years ago, but today, you're playing with your life engaging some idiot over their driving.

That gets close to "how dare they dress so slutty".

Yes, conflict can be de-esculated by both sides. But blaming someone for not pulling over and letting someone pass? SMH.

You got it Jerry. And am I expected to let someone around me in bank, retail store, etc. lines if they’re seemingly in a hurry because they might assault me if I don’t? Maybe tell my server to get the next table first even though I’ve been there longer because they seem agitated and might assault me or someone else if they have to wait. Exactly where would it end? I have done both of the above just because I’m a nice guy but I’m not going to live constantly trying to assess what person might go off if they don’t get their way. No one should have to.
