Martin 02-24-2021, 11:14 AM ha... guess it didn't hit me when this was posted back in november, but the foundation has been "oriented." Laramie 02-24-2021, 11:37 AM Couldn’t get a picture but steel is going up. Steel is going up; great, at least the project isn't standing still. Did you take those today? Pete 02-24-2021, 11:51 AM Damn that was quick Pete. Did you take those today? Yesterday. Laramie 02-27-2021, 03:36 PM Passed the construction site today on my way to Moore, Pete did a great job on his pics. You can see the back of the construction activity with the highest towers of the church being visible before you reach 89th Street from I-35, it's impressive. This means once you see the concrete encase the skeletal steel structure, this Basilica will look much like a giant Cathedral with more height in south Oklahoma City right before you pass the classic car parts strip mall. Hope this doesn't become a distraction to drivers on I-35 south/north between Oklahoma City and Moore. Might be a good area to consider building the MAPS 4 multi-purpose stadium; convince the owners of the surface parking from the Basilica and the adjacent businesses near by that they could profit by using their lots. https://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/rother112120a.jpg Laramie 03-03-2021, 10:10 PM Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine Site Cam https://webcampub.multivista.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=aPublicWebcam.embed&WebcamPublicEmbedUID=94BCCE88-AE07-4F31-A958-474BE766DA40&width=700&height=400&background=black Laramie 03-21-2021, 04:37 PM https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/UQXzuUrhWRHXXAjDuFzLyhu8xpRx2vIYvnlvy-dSHmUJ37I46vwWBCUGryAZaAHmw13LiwZ4WNOCNh7GkbRW3QFl ekMMTi4w_CsR0M4rOQ5IHQ59doMpww4jydylMD7AUlU7SzIyrf RgDwE17Cs The Steel Frame appears to be up. Martin 03-21-2021, 05:50 PM Is that artificial hill part of the project or is it just temporary? it has to be part of the project... it has a path that corkscrews to the top, it's sodded, and has large landscaping boulders integrated into it. oklip955 03-21-2021, 06:46 PM Its part of the shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The vision took place on a hill and that hill is a shrine to that vision of the Virgin Mary in Mexico that led to the conversion of the Aztecs. Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe is very popular especially among Hispanic Catholics. macfoucin 03-25-2021, 01:42 PM Topped out https://kfor.com/news/local/final-beam-lifted-into-place-in-shrine-honoring-oklahoma-martyr/ Pete 05-02-2021, 10:41 AM http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/rother050221a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/rother050221b.jpg Oski 05-02-2021, 03:50 PM Looks impressive, but are they considering buying (and later demolishing) all the commercial buildings facing I-35? oklip955 05-02-2021, 04:19 PM I have not heard anything about anymore buildings being bought up. I think the site is large enough for the plans. I am Catholic and attended the ground breaking. I would not consider this any more then for any other parish being built. Laramie 05-02-2021, 07:02 PM https://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/rother050221a.jpg Thanks for the update pic, Pete. So much information about Blessed Stanley Rother's life--as he is being revealed as an ordinary man. 'The Basilica of the Ordinary Martyr' would be a nice name IMO for the Basilica--because has simplicity to the name. Sainthood is the next level from 'Blessed.' It is my understanding that Rother's heart is being preserved. The original container was said to have the blood being similar to one who just died is information that has been conveyed to the Vatican. Hope Oklahoma can further sanctify the site in OKC for those who would like learn more about Father Rother. The structure is highly visible off I-35 & 89th Street as the erection of the skeletal church can been seen from that area from the interstate. Notice the skeletal structure being erected as I passed I-35 traveling north just yesterday (05-01-2021). Would like to know more about the Museum and Pilgrim Center planned for the site. Don't see any visible signs of that phase of construction or did I miss something... Oski 05-02-2021, 07:22 PM I have not heard anything about anymore buildings being bought up. Besides a chapel, the site will include a 2,000-seat church where the priest's body will be entombed, an education building, an event space, and several areas designated for shrines and devotion. I know that I am being all "um, actually!". So I apologize for that, but the shrine is not a basilica, at least not yet. To be a basilica in the Catholic Church, the Pope himself has to grant that designation. It is my hope and prayer that this great church will one day will join the ranks of other great churches designated as basilicas. I can't wait to see the shrine finished. These pictures are really great. Laramie 09-05-2021, 03:17 PM I know that I am being all "um, actually!". So I apologize for that, but the shrine is not a basilica, at least not yet. These pictures are really great. No need for an apology, learning is a continuous cycle... Interesting process much like many of the monuments and great edifices we consecrate (chrism) today. The Catholic Church has always had in place methodical procedures for getting things done. Sometimes these process changes appear slow; however many processes you can witness happening in real time from one decade to another. Remember when 'The Mass' was said and performed in Latin, you couldn't touch the communion (host) with your fingers and the palms of your hands. The wine representing the 'blood' of Jesus was celebrated by his ordained priest, His representative. The role of Deacons throughout the Dioceses, who perform some of same functions of priests, where there is a shortage. The Church (Roman Catholic) has made changes throughout history. Catholicism of the Universal Church, we have watched it evolve over time. Deal with the ugly scandals and challenges it has faced and continue to face today--as well as all church institutions (not limited to Catholic) face today. Looking forward to the official naming, the procedural process of making this Shine which includes a building--built to the specifications of a Basilica and final resting place for Blessed Father Stanley Francis Rother. So proud and glad to hear that he put up a fight... Because all that I have been taught and learned about when to turn the other cheek will always have clear meaning to me. Looking forward to the completion of this Shrine dedicated to a 'Blessed' person I met, had a number of conversations with throughout the time spent with him--he truly reflected everything said about him--brave and a leader of his flock. Much like the Jesus Christ we know today, willing to bear his cross as a gift of salvation. https://www.osvnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Screen-Shot-2020-07-28-at-11.12.04-AM.jpg An ordinary ordained priest. Your story (Father Francis Stanley Rother) will be told, like many martyrs before you, your trials and tribulations are etched in history. Also looking forward to the final miracle string that will allow you to be canonized a saint. . The contrast between this going up and the old Central Presbyterian at 50th and N May getting torn down is something to think about. Laramie 09-06-2021, 10:46 AM There's plenty of work to be completed on roof repairs and upgrades to many of the Catholic Churches inside the Oklahoma City Dioceses proper. Also the Rother Shrine will have a $5 million building to house a Pilgrim Center and Museum to welcome visitors to the site. IIRC over $80 million was raised in donations which included pledges for the One Church, Many Disciples Campaign.
