Isn't food supposed to be hot?
Not always. Depends on the food.

Thomas Vu 11-21-2017, 12:18 AM Point taken, although I think given the context we knew what was going on. bucktalk 11-21-2017, 09:09 AM Isn't food supposed to be hot? You'd think food should be hot. But the food arriving hot at my table is a rare event. I fully understand it's not an easy task to deliver hot food in a busy restaurant so I cut them some slack. BUT if food arrives hot....I'm wonderfully surprised. Jersey Boss 11-21-2017, 09:41 AM ^^ This. More often than not I wind up sending soup back, particularly in Chinese restaurants. Jeepnokc 12-24-2017, 09:34 AM Finally made it to McClintocks last night. It was not very busy and never filled up while we were there. Great beer and whisky/whiskey selection. Drink service was slow. The support staff did a great job (water and bread waiter assistant....... not sure what his title was because wasn't really just a busser but took care of refilling our waters and bringing bread.) Crab cake appetizer was excellent and flavorful. It came out before our drinks. The grilled Caesar salad was really just a Caesar. We ordered 2 filets, fried chicken, and the chicken fried steak, All of the food was prepared excellent. My fried chicken was crisp and juicy. However, it had no flavor. My friend having the CFS commented that his was the same as far as no flavor. There was nothing special about the filets. General consensus of our foursome is that it was an ok place but would not be our first choice for a return visit. May go for lunch and check out their soup and burgers Thomas Vu 12-24-2017, 03:14 PM However, it had no flavor. My friend having the CFS commented that his was the same as far as no flavor. May go for lunch and check out their soup and burgers I went to their soft opening and had a similar thought about my burger. Roger S 12-24-2017, 03:55 PM First time I went for lunch the fried chicken was excellent. Entire meal was. Second time I went for dinner. Chicken was not as good and overall my plate was meh. Not sure what changed between the two visits other than one was lunch and other was dinner. Haven’t gone back a third time yet to see which visit was the anomaly. sooner88 02-02-2018, 03:03 PM We went to dinner here last night and sat in the bar area. The restaurant itself is fairly large and there were groups of diners in each room, but overall it was fairly slow albeit a Thursday night. The bar itself is really cool and is throwback. It's such a short drive over here but it doesn't feel like you're anywhere near the "city". They have an extensive cocktail and whiskey / scotch menu as well as a fair amount of wine and beer. I ordered the fried chicken and my gf had one of the burgers. The fried chicken was good, but was nothing special and the mashed potatoes and green beans fell into the same category. Her burger was "decent" but was pretty bland. If I find myself over in the area again I'd give it another try, but there are a number of other restaurants I'd rather go to that we passed along the way. Hopefully they can figure it out because the setting is pretty special. Uptowner 02-02-2018, 03:11 PM We’ve been a few times and always get steak because, steak. We have several cocktails, which are excellent, usually a bottle of wine as their selection is great, however, there’s only a handful of reasonably priced bottles in the $40-80 range, and it skyrockets from there. Anyway, the food is so overwhelmingly uninspiring that each time the $200 for 2 check arrives I ask myself why we didn’t go to the ranch. The bar is top notch though, we have gone a couple times to have pre-dinner cocktails before walking over to cattlemans. sooner88 02-02-2018, 03:25 PM We’ve been a few times and always get steak because, steak. We went intending to get steak, but knew that it wouldn't be as good as Ranch/Mahogany/Red Prime so decided to pass. Also noticed that on the wine... Silver Oak is their midrange bottle for red, which seems crazy for the demographic. I could be wrong though. Roger S 02-02-2018, 03:25 PM I ordered the fried chicken and my gf had one of the burgers. In fact the entire meal was amazing. I even described the fried chicken as being as good as Babe's Chicken Dinner House in Texas.... Second time I went was for dinner and it was like I was in an entirely different restaurant. Chicken was breaded differently and not in a good different way but like the fried chicken at IHOP. Mashed potatoes were good but amounted to about a couple of bites and the 5-6 miniscule green beans on my plate looked more like a garnish than a side dish. The menu also said the fried chicken was served family style so I was expecting the sides to be served like they are at Babe's. Not as garnishments. sooner88 02-02-2018, 03:27 PM I've been twice and had the fried chicken both times. The first time was at lunch and the fried chicken was amazing. Yeah it was kind of strange, and the gravy boat was giant and served on the same plate. Roger S 02-02-2018, 03:28 PM Yeah it was kind of strange, and the gravy boat was giant and served on the same plate. Yeah.... At lunch the gravy was served on the potatoes and was an ample serving... I think I posted a pic of it further up in this thread.... Lunch also came with 3 large grilled asparagus spears that were cooked perfectly. sooner88 02-02-2018, 03:31 PM Yeah.... Roger S 02-03-2018, 05:41 PM Don't get me wrong, I love fried chicken, but if I'm going to "Stockyards", show me the beef !!! I can find good steak all around OKC. Do you know how difficult it is to find good bone-in fried chicken? Urbanized 02-03-2018, 06:43 PM ^^^^^^ Truth. soonerguru 02-05-2018, 08:58 PM Went again. Audio system is still horrible. Food was good. MadMonk 05-18-2019, 11:31 AM Finally got around to trying this place last night. I was in a party with five others and we all enjoyed our food and the atmosphere a lot. The place wasn't very busy, especially for a Friday night. Wouldn't call it dead, but there was plenty of seating. Makes me wonder how long this place can hang on. We had a variety of menu items - filets, ribeyes, pork chop, crab cakes, pork belly - the dauphinois potatoes were a standout favorite for everyone. I liked all of the food I tried (all close friends with lots of sharing.). The pork chop was massive and cooked perfectly. Personally, my ribeye was as good as I've had anywhere. It was cooked perfectly and wasn't overloaded with seasoning. I did get the peppercorn brandy cream sauce on the side. It's really good stuff, but only use it sparingly as it's really rich and can completely overwhelm the steak's flavor. Service was friendly and attentive without being too overbearing. Bar service was a bit slow, especially considering how quiet things were, but the drinks were very good. Atmosphere was pretty quiet, with music playing softly in the background. I noticed no issues with the sound system as others have mentioned, but perhaps that's why it was turned down low. Either way, it was perfect for conversation around the table. That beautiful bar woodwork is top notch. They spared no effort (and I'm sure expense) there. We finished up the evening with some after-dinner drinks on the patio. It was a delightful evening all around. I hope this place gets more business as it'd be a shame to see this one go away. TheirTheir 05-22-2019, 09:20 AM McClintock is our go-to restaurant when we don't want to spend half an hour deciding where to go. We have taken quite a few people there to much acclaim. I have noticed that the restaurant appears to be dead when there are in fact plenty of guests in east wing of the property. It's my opinion that they need to put some booth seating at the entrance so that the place feels more filled out. Pete 05-22-2019, 09:33 AM With Rodeo Cinema down there, you can really make a night of it down there with 2 completely unique experiences. jccouger 05-22-2019, 03:31 PM What is the expected dress code here? Gonna be honest, I've avoided this place because of the old western country persona it has. I don't feel like it would be a very comfortable environment for me. Is it more relaxed like Cattlemans, kind of classy like the Ranch, or would I need to wear a 10 gallon hat and cowboy boots? Thomas Vu 05-22-2019, 03:36 PM I've only been in for lunch, but I went in with a polo and jeans. It's relaxed but you will see plenty of people in jeans, boots, and long sleeve shirts, ball caps, and a few cowboy hats. It seems to be pretty popular with the horse show crowd and the ranchers that are in Stock Yards doing business. Are there any bars and dance/theme clubs? Is it time for some residential ala Edge or Legacy to bring in captive residents? And what about bus route(s) and tourist shuttles to link the district to downtown? Too bad the National Western Heritage Museum isn't in Stockyard's City, that'd really make it a destination -already- and give some upscale class if you will to placemaking. |
