View Full Version : Poe Bouyz House
Roger S 07-07-2017, 11:15 AM I know a few people have wondered about that odd looking building that's been an ongoing process on I-35. Uncovering Oklahoma just posted a sneak peek video of what's going on there.

jccouger 07-07-2017, 11:38 AM A true OKC gem.
Very excited for this to open. Can never have too many unique experiences in the city.
dankrutka 07-07-2017, 11:41 AM Wow. That is one ugly building... which I think is part of what they're going for. I always like anything outside the box and this project is way outside the box. I hope it succeeds.
bchris02 07-07-2017, 11:48 AM Where exactly is this?
rezman 07-07-2017, 12:03 PM ^ Southeast corner of NE 36th & I-35. Maybe 1/4mile south of the intersection.
I've always wondered what this was going to be!
traxx 07-10-2017, 11:39 AM Kudos to him for trying to do it debt free and chasing his dream. However, this seems like a horrible location. It's off by itself and close to nothing.
Zorba 04-26-2019, 04:15 PM I've been watching this place get built for 4 years now. It looks like they've been getting deliveries of equipment or something this week.
jccouger 04-26-2019, 04:29 PM There is always a truck there. I dunno if the owner is just a perfectionist or what, but it has taken forever.
The last couple of days there has definitely been an uptick in action though, they had the fountains running today. Hopefully will open up sometime this year!

Never could figure out what this was on the East side of I-35/N.E. 36th Street; can't wait to taste his IMO 5-star catfish. Once this place is discovered, it will be a staple among eateries in OKC.

Man, he can prepare catfish & seafood anyway it can be cooked & consumed.
Plutonic Panda 04-26-2019, 06:15 PM Wow. That looks delicious. I will be checking them out soon.

I really don't think he is a perfectionist. I think he is doing a lot of the work himself and there are some things that look wrong from the highway.

Agreed. I think he must do it himself when he has time, some of the work is over his head and funds must be an issue. Some things look like they are starting to deteriorate because the buildout is taking so long. Makes me wonder if the "look" is more of a necessity due to the obstacles listed above. That said, if the food is good..... I'm all in!
SEMIweather 04-28-2019, 11:33 AM It is incredible to me that the construction on this place is still going. If it actually succeeds, it will be one hell of a story.
MikeLucky 04-29-2019, 01:23 PM if he actually gets it up and running he should start working on the place next to Chili's in Norman. lol
BBatesokc 05-17-2019, 04:29 PM Saw a "Now Hiring" sign posted on the building when I passed by on I-35 today. Must be getting close.
In a build-up only rivaled by the apartment complex near NW 36th & Penn, Poe Bouyz actually opened today:

Plutonic Panda 08-20-2019, 02:06 PM I’ll probably stop by there and order some alligator.
Plutonic Panda 08-20-2019, 02:14 PM Anyone know their number? I haven’t had luck finding their website or number...
Suddenly, we have a bunch of cajun/creole options: this place, Cajun Corner (with a swanky new location under construction in Uptown), Magnolia Cafe in Auto Alley and Razzoo's at Chisholm Creek which will be opening soon.

Less one.... It appears the Cajun King that went in the Pancho's at I-240 and Penn has closed already but they kind of shot themselves in the foot there with a horrible start.
^
Oh right, but the Cajun King on NW 63rd & MacArthur has to be added to the list.

63rd and Meridian isn't it?
Edit... Nope... You are correct... been a few years since I've been up that way.
63rd and Meridian isn't it?
Nope, MacArthur; SE corner.
jccouger 08-20-2019, 03:20 PM Awesome news.
I drove by today and noticed the "opening soon" sign was gone. I figured that meant there would be another massive delay lol never even crossed my mind they'd actually be OPEN.

no surprise there... horrible is an understatement.

I'll throw in C'est Si Bon Catfish & Po'Boys. We go to the Edmond location and it is excellent.

Just an FYI if you don't already know... C'est Si Bon has the same owner as Poe Bouyz House.... So if you enjoy one you'll probably enjoy the other.

You could probably include Sam’s southern eatery too

And The Catch.
I remember when Cajun was the rage in the 80's, then it was forgotten about and now it's come roaring back.

sooner88 08-21-2019, 09:10 AM Also Hefner Grill, The Shack, Pearl's, Brent's.... We have a ton of options.

I didn't know that. I'm sure it will be excellent, then.
Colbafone 08-21-2019, 09:48 AM Man, I can't wait to try this place. I wish they had a muffaletta though. Oh well, can't wait to try literally everything they make here.

Off The Hook as well
I'm sure a big part of the resurgence is due to the healthier aspects of fish, although cajun food is generally very heavy and often fried.

We actually had Cajun before Dallas back in the 80's. Of course you remember Magnolia cafe and the original Pearls, now CHK.
Interestingly, there's now a seafood boil restaurant (Pier 33) in the old Pearls space on I-240. They also just opened in Casady square in the old Jimmy's Egg spot.
Remember when Cajun's Warf was a sensation near I-40 & Meridian?
That's a good 80's memory.
BBatesokc 08-21-2019, 11:59 AM Just drove past their location on I-35 and the parking lot pretty full.
Hope someone from here stops by soon and provides some pics and a review.....
jn1780 08-21-2019, 12:01 PM I hope the owner does well. It would be sad to see them close their first year after all that time he put into construction.

Yeah, guess they were the first. Always forget they built that building.
HangryHippo 08-21-2019, 01:31 PM Of course you remember Magnolia cafe.
Now that was some good eating.

Good lord. That has to be a record...
dankrutka 08-22-2019, 05:01 PM Keep OKC weird.
I hope the food is good and the place kills it.
HOT ROD 08-24-2019, 02:19 PM so does that mean there are 2 locations? 36th and Penn and I-35 and 36th?
TheTravellers 08-24-2019, 02:33 PM so does that mean there are 2 locations? 36th and Penn and I-35 and 36th?
Pretty sure they're not at 36th/Penn, we live around there and the only things on that corner are a strip center with a 7-11, shoe repair and other storefronts, and on another corner is a liquor store and phone store, on another is an abandoned gas station, and nothing on the fourth corner. But I could be wrong and just haven't seen it, they'd have to be in the strip mall...
HOT ROD 08-24-2019, 07:52 PM on I misread Pete's comment in post 17.
would be awesome if such development took place in the gayborhood. ....

Oh, I see... Pete meant that the apt complex near 36th/Penn has been remodeling/whatever for years now and still isn't open, kinda like Poe Bouyz House was until a few days ago.
BridgeBurner 10-03-2019, 02:13 PM Anyone know if this place is:
A) Still Open
B) Has their beer or liquor license?
Phone number listed on google is disconnected lol
rayvaflav 06-23-2023, 04:18 PM I was trying to find an old thread about this place and I had no luck until I tried three different variations on the spelling of the restaurant (Po Boyz, Po Bouyz, finally Poe Bouyz worked for me) and the tird time was a charm. It took forever to build, and once it was finished I never saw a patron's car in the parking lot. Fast forward mebbe four years later, the exterior has been revamped with a pretty heavy Poseidon theme, but I still don't see anybody's cars in the parking lot showing up for lunch or dinner. Who's got the sitch on this one ? https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=43461&highlight=po+bouyz
Roger S 06-24-2023, 04:08 PM I don't have any info on this restaurant but pretty sure his other 2 cajun restaurants are no longer open for business.
It’s on one of my bike rides from Katy trail to Forest Park, with new paint, and new water sculptures in front, but not yet open.
