Dustin 10-23-2017, 08:49 PM Whats with the power cords coming down from the ceiling for the produce tables? Doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing.
d-usa 10-23-2017, 08:53 PM I think it’s just temporary power, there used to be more of them but they have slowly disappeared.
jn1780 10-23-2017, 09:37 PM I guess its still going to be branded "Super Target". Also, it doesn't look like there will be a dedicated order pickup like we saw in a rendering at the beginning of the thread.
The tent and containers are gone from the parking lot.

scottk 11-10-2017, 09:00 PM For the the TARGET faithful, what are the thoughts on in-store music being pumped in through various parts of the new layout? Up to this point TARGET stores have been known for their lack of "in-store music" and PA system with very few guest announcements, except for when the store is closing. Part of the "quiet" is what makes the store an enjoyable experience.

I was there last Saturday when they had an actual DJ (or at least someone at a table that looked like a DJ) and special speakers truly blaring the music for the Grand Re-Opening... I enjoyed that loud music! I was there today too and did not notice anything out of the usual about the music so I guess I do not mind.
I am a huge fan of the remodel! I stopped grocery shopping at Target years ago because they had a major issue with being out of what I needed but so far (2 weeks in) it seems like they have fixed that issue and got much more competitive on their grocery pricing! I'm buying what they're selling.

Eventually yes. I gave some budget numbers to a customer before I moved for site improvements on that plot of land

Fun fact. There's a sizable homeless camp on that land a bit farther to the East where the trees surround the drainage. OCPD Homeless Outreach roll their SUVs across that big field a few times a month to make contact with them.
There was a $5 million building permit issued for the Norman (University North Park) Target and I assume it will be the next in the area to get the New Concept treatment.

Half the parking lot is full of mobile shipping containers. I would say they are starting soon.
bchris02 03-14-2018, 05:21 PM Are grocers who are remodeling taking into account the changing liquor laws coming this fall?
When I lived in Charlotte, most (but not all) grocery stores had extensive beer/wine selections in dedicated sections of the stores. I am interested to see if we are going to start seeing that here or if grocers are going to stick to a more limited selection of beers and bottom shelf wines.
Looks like the Edmond Super Target is set to get a big makeover as they are currently accepting bids expected to come in around $3 million.
The Target at 50th & N. May will get a new parking lot.
$250K building permit application filed today.

How does this compare money wise to the quail springs renovation
How does this compare money wise to the quail springs renovation
It's hard to say because I just looked this up and the only building permit I could find for that full QS Target remodel was for about $500K. But remember, building permits do not include furniture, fixtures or equipment, which is the lionshare of what they did in the QS store.
So, $3 million for Edmond is a ton of money. I'm sure the remodel will be as extensive if not more so.
scottk 05-17-2018, 07:09 PM If any one gets a hand on the renderings, it will be interesting to see if SuperTarget Edmond will be painting the exterior brick white. Quail Springs had the plaster flat style wall and was all the sandstone/tan color, it didn't seem that drastic to paint the exterior white to match the new branding.
SuperTarget Edmond has a tan brick that matches all of the other stores in the shopping center with Lowes. However, both stores were built about the same time and had the same floor plan, just reversed. The Edmond store has already made small updates in signage and some lighting.

The Norman SuperTarget renovation had a tab of close to $5 million and that was the newest SuperTarget's built in the OKC Metro around ?2008?

The Target at NW Expressway and May will soon start a multi-million dollar renovation to convert to one of their new concept stores.
The footprint and entrance won't change but it will get a new facade and signage, a new food court, self-checkout lanes and all the fixtures and floor coverings will be upgraded.

Brett 02-21-2021, 01:06 PM I am excited for the self-service checkouts.
bombermwc 02-22-2021, 07:29 AM They did this to the Midwest City store a while back. It's freaking weird if you ask me. It's like walking in to a weird semi-department store with all of these brand collection stations sprinkled around. It's a lot of money invested in a "look", to be sure. But functionally, it doesn't really do much other than fill square footage with unsellable items (fixtures). I guess they think it makes it more trendy or whatever. For me, all the different floorings and mis-matched displays and things just makes the store look like a mis-matched jumble.

You would probably be surprised by how much research and testing goes into these changes. They aren’t just done by interior designers and cool people. Then targeted rollouts are used to confirm before wider application.
They have to find a way to make their stores pleasant places to go in and linger and encourage people to buy more stuff.
Only way to stay relevant in the Amazon era.
I personally like their stores a lot while I abhor Walmart.
shawnw 02-22-2021, 10:00 AM Was in the MWC store this weekend. New design did not stand out enough to me to make me think, wow, I'm so glad they did this.

The changes are sort of like advertising.... it targets (no pun intended) customers they wish to get while retaining customers they already have and hopefully adding additional sales to existing sq ft.
Also, think of it sort of like urban design. If you make the street level more interesting and pleasant you tend to linger and go in and out of the shops, hopefully doing more commerce along the way.
I think that because department stores like Macy's and even Penny's are struggling, Target is inching up to grab those customers who still want to get out and shop but won't pay department store prices. As department stores struggle, Target is betting they can relocate their customers to them.
Brett 02-25-2021, 01:22 PM I imagine with this proposed remodel, that we will not be lucky enough to land the mini Apple shop as part of the remodel.

brianinok 02-25-2021, 02:51 PM I am only just starting to go in stores again because of Covid, but I have spent some time in the remodeled Edmond SuperTarget. I think the new color schemes are pleasing, but I really like the new layouts. They make so much more sense than the previous ones at SuperTarget. Like and similar products are actually closer together and in the same departments now. The only negative is they've taken some easy front-to-back aisles away, so you have to zigzag in a few places you didn't have to before.

Yes, I saw elsewhere that the Quail Springs Target will be one of the first 17 stores to get the mini Apple Store:

Robert_M 02-26-2021, 09:24 AM Most of the work on the Memorial Target Apple pad is done. Just waiting for the general contractor to finish up a couple of things.
soonerguru 02-28-2021, 08:46 PM Visiting this store yesterday, I mentioned this reno to my daughter, and she asked, "Why?" Good question. The store frankly looks very nice and clean as it is now.
bombermwc 03-04-2021, 08:01 AM The MWC store doesn't have the Apple one, but they did set up little areas like that for certain products like Samsung. So it's brand collected rather than function collected.
I guess some people like that, but i prefer to have all the like functions together so i can compare across brands at the same spot. Same for clothing/etc. The way some of this stuff is organized now just means more walking to do that. We've all seen how lazy people are so now they just leave the comparison item on the shelf in the wrong area so staff has to come by and put it back where it belongs whereas before, it probably would have just stayed on the wall hook.
I guess im an old fart.
This is the Apple area at the N. Penn Target from today.
Very close to finishing up.

The big renovation at 5400 N. May has commenced.
They have a bunch of containers in the parking lot and have started to tear up the flooring.
I also received a mailer today for $5 off due to the construction.

Comparison would be nice. I shop there cause my experience there is much better than walmart.
catch22 07-07-2021, 11:42 PM I find Target to be high priced and somewhat limited on selection. Anytime I end up in one I always say “I need to shop here more often” because of how pleasant the experience is; however I am always having to go somewhere else to finish my shopping.

I agree. I try to justify it by saying "There isn't a people of Target website." But it really is probably 10-15% more than Wal-Mart.

Exactly. Clean store nice experience. Limited items and slightly higher priced.
Bunty 07-08-2021, 12:48 PM So is Target changing to bare concrete floors, except in some departments, like Wal-Mart did? That is an abhorrent look.

I "think" they are renovating the Target Cafe area and shifting that section to a dedicated space for an order pickup staging area with emphasis on fresh/frozen groceries. Covid dramatically shifted the way many bought groceries and if Target can be more efficient, they can easily make more money in online orders for pickup than they ever did on popcorn and hot dogs in the Target Cafe....(and I do miss the Target popcorn!)

That was kind of my assumption, but I figured someone would know. Their curbside pick up is very smoothly run, so this isn't shocking at all if it is what is going on.
This is what the building permit application says about the QS Target:
Team Member Restrooms: full decor update including wall finishes, floor finishes, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and toilet accessories. Order Pickup Storage: includes reconfiguration of storage area, wall finish, floor finish, and lighting updates. Offices: reconfiguration of partitions, wall finish, ceiling finish, and floor finish. Food Service: Cafe and seating area removed and replaced with Snack Bar 2.0.
scottk 07-10-2021, 09:07 PM Looked up the Snack Bar 2.0 concept. It's similar to a small convenient store, and you literally grab and go, looks like a self check-out for drinks, popcorn, and snacks.

Plutonic Panda 07-10-2021, 09:24 PM ^^^ I’ve always had an idea like that for large grocery stores to have a smaller “store within a store” where they sell their most popular items with its own checkout system. I hope this concept can’t be protected and other stores like Walmart implement it as well.

Doubtful. They place the popular items where they do in the store; often in areas to drive foot traffic past more linear feet of shelves to sell more products. There is a complicated
strategy to item placement to drive sales.
The containers have arrived:

brianinok 07-12-2021, 11:27 AM I've been in a couple Wal-Mart stores lately-- a super center and a neighborhood market. I was shocked at how "distribution center" feeling they both were. Concrete floors. Industrial shelving. There was no sense of "place" in any department. All the Targets I've been in locally and while traveling (including super, standard, and urban) have all been a vastly superior shopping experience. In all honesty, I do occasionally get annoyed at some selection items (do they really need 6 rows of *this" Crest and not carry "X" Crest at all?), and their fruit quality in Edmond has been horrible all summer (we've bought most of our fruit at Uptown, but we do that a lot of the time anyway). But overall, their selection is good, and the experience is vastly superior than than the competition. I'm willing to pay slightly more for that benefit.
^
Sam's Clubs are nicer than Walmarts, especially their wide aisles that aren't cluttered with tons of merchandise.
I can easily shop at Target and Sam's and occasionally Winco and never set foot in a Walmart or their Neighborhood Markets.
