07-09-2007, 09:43 PM
Hiya, I am Kathy (OkieKAS) from Chickasha, Oklahoma. I was born in OKC (1958) and have lived in OKLAHOMA all of my life.

My hubby and I own and operate an Insulation Business and we have 2 grown sons, Jay, who just hit the big 30 this week and Kevin, who turned 25 last month. Our only daughter, Leslie, passed away in 2000. (sudden cardiac death, at the age of 15 yrs old). We have been married for nearly 31 years and we like to go camping, travel Oklahoma to check out new places to see and be, jet skiing, horseback riding, fishing and we adore the outdoors. I don't have any grandchildren, my sons' are not married/have no kiddies.

We travel with them to Rock Crawling, MudBogs, Sand dunes, events 'n such. OKLAHOMA has them all! I have assisted my son in building up an '85 surburban, lifting it from the frame 20 inches, then installing all of the good stuff with 39 inch swamper tires on it and actually got to drive it in Chickasha! YaY! I was very ill and my son and I worked on it right in the driveway, so that I could watch him. (his shop is 15 miles away).

I strongly believe in family and am quite spiritual, but not so religious. The most happiest I can ever be is when I see my sons together, as well as the most saddest, when I see them w/o their sister. (now if I could only get one of them to put on a dress) ...smile.

I have a chronic illness (docs say it like this...... t e r m i n a l)...... but that belongs at an airport........it kicks my butt every now and again.....however, I don't allow it to control me. (the only reason I relate this info is due to the fact that I disappear for days until I can kick back up and if I don't, then I am with Leslie) :Smiley063

I love the State of OKLAHOMA and everything about it! I love to research all of the history of our GREAT STATE!

I have 2 chihuahuas, Zoi and Suki.

I have a background in art and in advocation for those with disAbilities/those trapped in abuse - domestic violence - children- and the elderly.
PEOPLE FIRST!

I am somewhat opinionated, however quite harmless....hehe

:welcome55 to the Forum, and I am glad that I am able to kick back here for awhile.

I appreciate all of those on here, all of the individual traits in people, and the time and efforts they take to make this possible.

Blessing to all.

Hey, Lacy. It's great to hear that you have taken a liking to your home state. Most kids at OU are racing to get out as soon as possible. You should check out the Greater Grads program that the Chamber does each summer - Greater Oklahoma City Chamber - Greater Grads (http://www.okcchamber.com/gateway.asp?id=10). It is aimed at providing opporunities for upcoming graduates to get plugged in with community leaders and their peers. Also, check out the Alliance of Emerging Professionals - AEP Â* Oklahoma City's Young Professionals Network Â* aepokc.com (http://www.aepokc.com). We are a strategic partner with the Chamber and we help facilitate the transition from college to career. There are a lot of ambitious people in the group that have big ideas for making OKC an even better place to live.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Hello Everyone! My name is Ed and I just recently relocated to OKC from Indianapolis which prompted the nickname 'Naptownman'. I am excited about being apart of this community and getting to know some great people.

Welcome Ed, from another out-of-towner (reporting in from Belgium; but a former OKC resident). I hope your relocation to OKC was smooth and that our fair city was everything you hoped it would be. So, what made you choose Oklahoma City?

Thanks for the welcome Rifleman! Up to this point, my transition to OKC has been a pleasant surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect from this city, region, or the state; since you don't really hear anything too good or bad about this area in Indiana, other than tornados.

The reason for my relocation was due to a job promotion. I'm very excited about the opportunities that my new employer provides and the ongoing renaissance that is taking fold in OKC.

Well, I hope the promotion is what you thought it would be as well. As far as OKC goes, I am both curious and anxious to get back as well... there have been a lot of changes, most of them good, and I am looking forward to seeing just how far the OKC area can go on the adrenaline it is generating for itself!

Welcome to the forum! Post early and often... and there seems to be a solid group of good folks on here that visit and post regularly, so you should have good (and knowledgeable) company!

Hey everyone.

I'm Chris. I work at SW Global Promotions and work with the D.A.R.E. program. I help raise money to keep the program in the school systems. I am an aspiring business owner in the future and I am working hard to accomplish my dreams. I love social activities, and anything that is outdoors. I go rock climbing at OKC Rocks, my local hang outs are Loony Bin Comedy Club and Belle Isle Brewery. Sometimes I wonder off and go to Hudson's or Edna's hole in the wall to catch up with some of my friends. I don't get a whole lot of spare time, working 6 days a week now, sometimes 7.

I live in Warr Acres and have a nice rent house here. I love being in the city atmosphere. I am originally from the Woodward, OK area. I have been in the OKC area since March.

I pretty much enjoy reading all of the different posts on here. I may not post a whole lot on some, but I still read them. I enjoy reading peoples responses and highlights of the town. I'm always open to catching a friendly conversation talking about any kind of topic! I have been on the OKC Talks board for a few weeks now.

Well, thanks for taking the time to read, and welcome to all of the other new members out there!

My name is Todd Gordon and I am a newbie screenwriter looking for my "big break." I moved to OKC in 2001 from Canada with my wife Lisa (she is from here originally) so it was quite a culture shock... but I love it here.

I joined up to be able to add in to discussions on issues that affect us, and this is THE BEST board for up to date happenings around town. Great place.

Hi all.

My name is Andrea. I grew up in Laverne, the home of Miss America 1967 and the 2006 National FFA President. We have streets named after both. Not kidding.

I spent two years in college at Northwestern in Alva, then transferred last spring to OU. I'm a psychology major hoping to go on to med school when I graduate next fall. I work as a receptionist and live in Midwest City with my fiancé, a cocker spaniel puppy, a ball python, and various fish. So that's me.

Welcome to all the other new members!

Hey all! I am a retired, fat, old lady transplant from Michigan. I use the name wheeler because I live in a wheelchair, well, on a wheelchair (after I chase the darn cat off!) I have fallen in love with the state, OKC and MWC. I've seen so many natural wonders and spectacular sights in the short three years I've been here. Wow! What a place! What nice people! I see room for improvement of course, but overall, yup, this is a great place!

Hello Everyone,

I found your website on the city-data forum. I am originally from Sand Springs, OK (just west of Tulsa) however I currently live in San Diego, CA now. Our family is in the process of trying to relocate back to our wonderful state of OK.

Wish us luck as hubby has his 3rd interview the weekend of the OU/Missouri game.

I am a die-hard OU fan and I went to school at OU in 85-87. I'm sure many of you are in agreement that last Saturday was a difficult pill to swallow.

I can't wait to get back there. I miss the tornadoes and rain and all the 4 seasons, not to mention the love of college football.

No one out here understands the loyalty we have to our teams.

Anyway, hopefully I get a chance to meet everyone and say hi!

I am also married with three children.

Hello, all

My name is Debbie. I have lived in Oklahoma City since 1979.

I joined this site to keep up with what's going on around town.

I will probably also post an occasional announcement regarding the Ambassadors' Concert Choir performance schedule. I have sung with the choir for several years and I serve on a committee to publicize choir events, so you'll probably be hearing from me about upcoming performances.

Hi everyone! I've actually been around since 2004 I think, but I'm not sure I ever even posted my introduction. So to those of you who don't know me, I'm Jill, 36, and I live in the Moore area (technically OKC.)

My screen name implies what I used to do- Massage Therapy.

However, I am actually a music teacher. I teach at a private Christian school and also teach private piano lessons.

This has been a great forum and if it's information you want......that's what you get! Of course, this place is a lot of fun too!

Thanks for the PM's, it's great to be back on here!

Hello, all. I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. We are a Boeing family that will be relocating to the OKC area in January. We currently reside in southern CA, but I am originally from Long Island, NY and my hubby from Tucson (although he spent 12yrs in Seattle before moving to socal). We have two young boys ages 4 and 2 years of age. I have been to the area once to look around and liked it. We will look to live in Edmond. I am happy to have found this forum because I am very curious about the area we are moving into. It is great to see all that is going on in the downtown area and also in Edmond. I think it will be a great place to raise my boys, although the tornados seriously freak me out!!!

My name is Tim. I've lived in Oklahoma City since I was five years old, except for the time I went to college in Texas and, well, I also worked in Texas for three years and now I'm back. I'm early 30s now and here to stay.

Just joined this forum as I really love all that is going on in Oklahoma City. I live near the downtown area so I love to keep up with all the development down here.

I also run a blog about Oklahoma City Restaurants (http://www.eataroundokc.com) if you're interested in checking that out, and then I have my own personal blog (http://www.dailygenesis.com) as well.

Welcome shadow42. As far as tornados go, just living here a while will decrease your fear of tornados. Looking for a house with an inground or aboveground tornado shelter will do so as well. Although they can be bad, unlike hurricanes, they usually affect a small percentage of the population, as opposed to whole cities. And you'll learn that an early warning system and paying attention to the weather will help as well. In fact, you'll know you're a "real Okie" when you go out to your front porch to look at the sky when the sirens sound, as opposed to heading for the shelter. That's a little joke, but as a transplanted Minnesotan, I've now graduated to being one of the porch people. I've lived in a bunch of different places, and this is one of my favorites, so I hope you enjoy your time here.

Howdy all!

I'm a Texas native living in the wilds of SW OK. I'm originally from DFW so it's still a culture shock to live in the country. After 4 years I'm growing accustomed to it.

OKC reminds me of my beloved Fort Worth, before it was a Dallas suburb.

Even my kids love Bricktown more than Fort Worth. It's like the best of Texas, in Oklahoma, and it's cleaner.

So far I really like the area. The people are much nicer and there is less traffic.
