Patrick 12-26-2004, 11:42 PM Hey Underling...first off, welcome to OKC Talk! If you want to talk about how OKC used to be, you've definitely come to the right place. Feel free to jump in any time. We'd love to hear your memories! :)
We'll be glad to have you back in OKC! I've can testify to those long drives on Broadway Extension. Although, fortunately for me, I was going to reverse of all of the traffic...I commuted from OKC to UCO every day!
Well, like I said, we'd love to have you jump in and participate. There's something here for everyone. If you want to talk about OKC in general, we do that mostly in the OKC and Surrounding Area forum. We discuss everything from MAPS to Bricktown to memories of OKC...whatever you feel led to talk about. Also, there's a lot of cutting edge, inside info. presented here, so it's a great source to keep up to date on OKC politics and happenings.
oklacity75 12-29-2004, 11:35 PM I'm Oklacity75 the name stems from my hometown which is Oklahoma City just like many people that post here. I was an active member of the old talkback forum from okc-cityhall the city's old web address. The 75 is my birth year it’s hard to believe I'm almost 30. I'm single, I have no children, and I live in NW OKC near Mercy Hospital. Anyways I'm a big useless information junkie. I love to read up on new happenings in OKC. Rather it’s the new businesses coming to Oklahoma City or the latest city gossip.
A little background on me, I was born and raised in Oklahoma City and I graduated from Westmoore High School in 1995. In July of 1995 I joined the U.S. Navy and became a Seabee. Seabees provide engineering support for the marines. Seabees build camps, roads, bridges and miscellaneous other stuff as the mission requires. My Navy career took me to Japan, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Port Hueneme, Ca. and Gulfport, Ms. I always loved the Japan trips because most of the flights had a layover in Anchorage, Alaska. Alaska is very beautiful almost anytime of year. I hope to take cruise there someday soon.
I moved back to Oklahoma City in 2000 I left the Navy and took a job with a well known electronics retailer here in OKC and that's where I currently work. I went back to school in 2003 to earn my degree in Police Science at OSU-OKC. Right now I'm scheduled to graduate in 2005; however, I'm contemplating either going for another degree or getting my bachelors from Cameron University through a program at OSU-OKC.
That’s the basics on me if you want to know more feel free to ask. I intend to be an active member of this blog and I look forward to debating the issues with each of you.
Patrick 12-30-2004, 12:44 AM oklacity75, we welcome you, and thanks for posting an intro. Keith and I both remembered you from Oklahomas Own, but we couldn't quite figure out how long ago you joined us. Seems like so long ago when Talkback was around. Seems like both Keith and I have been involved in city discussion boards and city politics for along time now. Unlike some forum boards, in this one we allow you to express your opinions without censoring them, as long as they're within reason and follow the guidelines of this forum. Feel free to post your opinions on the topics. We won't delete your posts or ban you based on a personality conflict. In fact, the more opinions we have here, the better. As you've probably read, many of the debates that go on here are pretty entertaining, well planned, and very enlightening intelectually. Thanks Midtowner and mranderson!!! lol! We'd love for you to join the dialogue.
Take care and have a great new year!

just_like_sugar 01-05-2005, 12:09 PM Hi,
My name is Rebecca, and I am a lifelong Oklahoma native. I grew up in small town,OK but have lived in the OKC Metro area (off and on) since 1995. I currently reside in Norman.
I love it here, I think Oklahoma has managed to keep a small town feel to our cities while still growing and providing new business, shopping, and entertainment options. To me, that is a great mix.
I like posting about things to do, cool new options in the area, and also about ways to improve life here in central Oklahoma. I am very eclectic in my tastes, so I look forward to getting lots of new information to help me in finding things to do...
Anyway, that's me in a nutshell...hope to visit with many new people on here soon...
Becca

Patrick 01-12-2005, 09:13 PM Hey sword and Janie! We're really happy you've joined this site.
I know there's a lot of negative sentiment out there about our city, but OKC is really what you make it. If you stay at home and watch TV all day, of course it's not a good place to live. But if you actually spend time enjoying our great sites, it isn't too shabby!
Hey, feel free to join the discussion! We'd love to hear your opinions. I foy ujust want to discuss Oklahoma City, feel free to look at the OKC and Surrounding Area forum....there's a lot of cutting edge info. given in this forum.
Again, welcome to the site and thanks for giving an intro.
Sooner&RiceGrad 01-12-2005, 10:26 PM Hi there. I was referred to this forum by one of my friends at Skyscraper Page (Renffahcs, incase he is on here as well, though he lives in DFW) I see some people I recognize. I came here because this thing interests me. If you thing you have seen me before, I am active on PoFo (politics forums) SSC, and SSP. I occasionally view threads over at urban planet. I am usually well informed, but you may find me slightly over aggressive and highly opinionated. But, since this is a regional forum, with nothing but Okies we should not have politics and regional conflicts, lol.
Looking forward to a great time together,
Nick.
P.S. If you must refer to me by username (I prefer first name) use the initials SRG, that is what I am used to.
Rev. Bob 01-17-2005, 06:56 PM The name is Reverend Bob. I'm a minister at a mid-size Baptist church here in Oklahoma City. I'm 52 years of age, married, with 3 beautiful children.
Patrick 01-17-2005, 07:38 PM Hey Rev. Bob. It's great to have you aboard. As you can see, there are lots of different topics discussed here. Pick those you like and jump in. I'm sure the Faith and Values forum may interest you. Feel free to give your 2 cents.
Thanks for the intro. and welcome to OKC Talk.

mistipetal 01-19-2005, 11:20 AM Well, um. I probably should have intro'd myself before I started posting, but I didn't. So better late than never I hope. Divorced mom with a lil petal. I guess if you stretch the term you could call me a social worker. So hello...nice to meet you all.

okcnative 01-19-2005, 10:31 PM Hi, everyone!
I am new to OKCtalk, but I'm so glad to have found it! This is just what we need to help build our community and to recognize perspectives and ideas that help us all work together for the betterment of our lives and out state.
I'm an Oklahoma City native, born here some 42 years ago. I moved away to Colorado and Georgia for about 8 years, but returned home in the early 90's. I work for the State of Oklahoma and specialize in public information/media relations. I am blessed to have in my life the most wonderful man/best friend/partner imaginable. No children, except for nephews and nieces who frequently visit and stay. We also currently share our home with several rescued animals. Both Okies from birth, we are fortunate to have both our extended families and a lifetime of friends here in Oklahoma. I look forward to being a part of OKCtalk and hope I occasionally have something worthwhile to add.

(I've always wanted to say that. Please don't spoil my fun by pointing out that it's technically Saturday morning)
I was born at Baptist Hospital and lived mostly in SW OKC until I graduated from Grant HS in '86. That's when I moved to Tulsa to attend Spartan School of Aeronautics. I have lived in Alaska, Long Island, Louisiana, Kansas, and now live in a far north Dallas suburb. I'm a pilot for a Dallas based fractional jet aircraft management company.
Nice to meet y'all.

mistress_x123 02-09-2005, 01:28 PM Hi all I'm mistress_x123 no not a real mistress but hubby thinks so. I moved here to Oklahoma in 2002 from Arizona. Where I lived all my life untill we moved here. I have no Family here but the one I came with but the hubby has family here. The reason for moveing ( and I get asked this all the time ) is cuz it is still green in the winter and it dose not cost $100 a month to keep it that way. Plus I like how when a breeze comes through it is a nice breeze and not like opening the oven door.
I came to this site cuz the search engin pick up a topic I was looking for on the new rules in Bricktown. I drive carriages and was looking for more of the rules then I already know.
My main intres is in horses. I have horses, work with horses all shapes and sizes, and on their feet too. I help my hubby with his horseshoeing biz. I am very much a horse person (eat, sleep, and breath horses, sry. Much of what goes on in OKC I have no clue, I live 55 minutes south from Bricktown.
That is a lot about me and I hope to talk to you all soon.
asta2 02-09-2005, 03:15 PM Howdy, Asta2 here. Orginially from Texas but I have been around here for about 9 years. My background is food service and restaurants but I'm now in sales. Always looking for new leads on new business coming to town and usually have lots of info on them as well. I've enjoyed reading all the threads. I look forward to participating soon.
Keith 02-09-2005, 03:37 PM Hi mistress_x123 and asta2. I want to thank you both for posting on the roll call, and letting us know a little more about you:tiphat: . This forum is very addicting, and lots of fun to participate in. I hope you both take some time out and share your ideas with us and start participating in the discussions that we have. I came here looking for anyone who may have the same situation type to relate with.. gossip about OR who may know the same guy... Just as much, I am thrilled to learn of such great resources that are here, on okctalk, where we can learn and share more about our state, the people that love it and the many new plans for more greatness! Thank you too to MrAnderson for introducing me to this site.
Wishes to all for a Happy Day!

Doug Loudenback 03-15-2005, 07:51 AM I'm Doug Loudenback, married to Mary Jo Watson, have 2 adult children and some grandchildren (another on the way) all of whom live in Okc. I was born at St. Anthony's in the year of the black penny but my family moved shortly after. I finally landed back in Oklahoma City after finishing law school and a couple of years in the army, and have lived here since the (1970). Before that, as a kid in the Lawton school system, I loved my trips to Okc ... the old Toddle House on NW 23rd (the best chocolate ice box pie ever!), the great old movie theaters downtown and the bustle that was present downtown in that era.
I'm an avid WordPerfect user ... die-hard, you might say ... and write a WordPerfect macro program that I sell to Oklahoma lawyers through the OBA. BTW, most solo and small firm Oklahoma lawyers still use WordPerfect & regard it as vastly superior to MS Word! I'll be teaching a class in WordPerfect macros beginning in a few weeks to several of my lawyer friends who want to learn how ... a free manual I've written on WordPerfect macros is available for download at my website, in the WordPerfect area.
But, what brought me here was that I was adding a downtown Oklahoma City clickable map and building images to my website, and in one search or another for images to include I ran across a link to this website, less than a week ago, and it looked like a nice place to be since I like being an Okie City guy!
That's enough of an introduction. I've tried to post a link to my new Downtown Oklahoma City page(s) in this message and just learned that the practice isn't OK! Google my name and you can find it on your own, if you want. I hope that it is a useful contribution to people who like such things.

Hey Doug, thanks for the nice intro and welcome to the site. Concerning your attempt to post a link, actually, we had to require that a user make 5 posts before being able to post a link. This has solved much of our spamming problem, as most spammers won't hang around long enough to make 5 posts in order to "earn" the ability to post a link.
Hey, send me a PM with the link. I'd love to post it here.
Again, we welcome you, and thanks for the nice intro.

His website is a wonderful source of information. His program is something that most in the family law practice use on a daily basis. He's one of the best attorneys around to boot.
Doug Loudenback 03-16-2005, 01:37 PM Thanks, Midtowner! I'm blushing!

savgranny 03-16-2005, 07:36 PM Hi I'm connie I used to live in OKC. I still consider it home. I used to work for BK,sad to see alaco have to close them. I liked working for them. I have lived in OKC most of my life. I have had some good jobs and have also been in the shelters when things went wrong. Things are better and look to be staying that way. I just started working for 4cnet in Seminole. I'm a TSR for bargain network. I like the work. I visit OKC occasionally still and keep up on the happenings there. I can't wait to post my views -- is there a talk net for any other cities in ok?
Patrick 03-17-2005, 12:24 AM Hey connie, we're so happy to have you here. I think it's interesting that you've experienced the life of living in the shelters. I'd think that would be a very enlightening experience. I give you praise for seeking the assistance of sheleters instead of panhandling like some people do. The shelters do a great work in our city. Our very own Proactive Volunteer volunteers countless hours at the Jesus House. It's a great ministry.
Hey, if you get a chance, feel free to tell us about your experiences as part of the homeless shelters. We'd be interested to hear about them! :)
Take care and we welcome you to the site!
sweetdaisy 03-18-2005, 01:05 PM Hi all! I'm sweetdaisy and I'm back in OKC after living out of state for the past 10 years. While surfing around looking for professional singles groups, I stumbled across this website. I figure at least one of you out there has an idea of where a single gal can meet new friends (both male and female). I miss having a social life!
Don't know what all I should tell everyone on this introduction, so I'll keep it short. I will admit this is the first time I've ever done any sort of "chat", so please forgive my ignorance of the system. It took me 10 minutes to find the Intro/Welcome page. DUH! :(
Look forward to talking with you all!

Hi sweetdaisy, and :Welcome: to okctalk. You have found an excellent place to meet other singles. As a matter of fact, we have a singles chat every Tuesday night at 7 PM on this forum. It gives you a chance to meet other people and get to know them better.
Feel free to share your ideas and opinions about anything. There are a great bunch of people who post here, and we have a very friendly atmosphere. Again, it's great to have you.;)
dirtrider73068 03-18-2005, 06:10 PM Hi all!
Hi sweetdaisy welcome to the forum you will enjoy it very much. You were saying you were looking for a singles group to have some friends, I would like to reach out a invitation myself to have a friendship. I have been searching myself since about aug last year for a female friend and haven't had much luck. I wanted a companion to hang out with and have conversation with, since most the time I am home alone. If you like to chat or have a email buddy give me a shout in pm's or post here where you would like me to reach you at.
Doug Loudenback 03-19-2005, 10:04 AM Hey Doug, thanks for the nice intro and welcome to the site. Concerning your attempt to post a link, actually, we had to require that a user make 5 posts before being able to post a link. This has solved much of our spamming problem, as most spammers won't hang around long enough to make 5 posts in order to "earn" the ability to post a link.
Patrick, I've now posted more than 5 messages but I still cannot post urls. What am I doing wrong?
Doug Loudenback
Patrick 03-21-2005, 02:04 PM Hey Doug, I'll look into it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Patrick 03-21-2005, 03:09 PM Never mind, I guess the link feature is worknig for you now!
Doug Loudenback 03-21-2005, 04:05 PM Patrick, yes, I can now post urls. I sent an e-mail to the "Contact Us" link, below, and it was answered by Todd Reagor, he advising that the threshold had been raised to 10 a few weeks ago. So, that's why under 10 messages didn't get me there.
Thanks,
Doug
Patrick 03-21-2005, 04:20 PM My apologies for the inconvenience. Todd, our site administrator, and owner of the site, has been making several changes recently. I suppose I missed this one!
Doug Loudenback 03-21-2005, 06:05 PM Not a problem, Patrick. All is well.
Doug
