Very interesting. I wonder if Edmond will follow suit. The train comes through the middle of town every 45 minutes. Really you get used to it pretty quick, at least I do, I've camped right next to a major train crossing in Ohio a few times, trains every 15 minutes all night. After thh first couple of trains, I sleep right through it. Although I did not buy a house in Edmond because it was near a train crossing.

I'm told by friends in Norman that trains are now going through without whistles, board confirmation?

Based on my recent experience, I think it's accurate.

It's very quiet now. I appreciate at the office, close to where tracks cross e main.
I lament it at home, where the more distant sounds were quite welcome in the background.

However, I imagine many of those living closer to tracks are thrilled.

I was driving around downtown last week and I recall seeing some signs up at crossings that cautioned drivers that horns would not be sounded at crossings.

Per KFOR it went into effect last Friday officially.

Though I could still hear the train this morning when it crossed the 34th street intersection in Moore. Maybe Moore will do the necessary work to get the quiet zone extended when they do the 34th street bridge and redo the low crossing there.

Man you should have read the comments on the Norman Facebook. People going crazy over the trains not using their horns. They will still use the horn if they see someone on the track or an obstruction.

My favorite comment was along these lines, "This is more of the west Normanites (west of i-35) making all the decisions for the real Normanites on the East side!"

I, for one, noticed and much appreciated the lack of a train horn at Benvenuti's a couple of days ago...!

They are still blowing the horn at the Indian Hills Rd crossing, which is annoying to me since I live near there. On Monday night, they blew the horn 5 times between 3-4:30 AM.

We live right by the tracks in SE Norman and the trains are definitely NOT blowing their horns the majority of the time now. I'd say maybe less than 20% of the time I hear a horn. We're close enough to the tracks that the sound of the train itself is fairly loud, even without the horn. So I can definitely tell when they're coming through.
