Pete 06-25-2018, 09:44 AM I went Thursday night around 7:30 and every seat in the place was taken, including every single one at the bar. TheirTheir 06-25-2018, 09:51 AM I'm addicted to the hot gochujang wings Pete 06-25-2018, 09:52 AM I'm addicted to the hot gochujang wings Those and the kimchi fries (with added sriracha) SEMIweather 06-25-2018, 06:56 PM The salt/pepper wings and hot fries here are incredible. Comparable prices to Buffalo Wild Wings with far better quality and more interesting flavor options. Pete 09-24-2018, 08:20 PM Still one of my favorite places. Went tonight and when I left around 8PM, they had people waiting for a table. They added a wing flavor called Peppers Galore which has a mixe of flavors but quite spicy to the point I had to take them slow. But soooooo good! Ginkasa 09-25-2018, 08:50 AM You scared me. I thought you were going to say this was another one that closed. I'll need to make a stop in and try that new flavor sometime. BridgeBurner 09-25-2018, 09:09 AM You scared me. Any time I see Pete commented on an older thread from a restaurant I love my heart sinks for a second lol. Chick n Beer seems to be packed when I am there, I like sitting on the patio with my pooch. jccouger 09-25-2018, 09:20 AM You scared me. Can we start a thread specifically on Restaurant closures, and restaurants that are rumored to be struggling? Seems like there is a mass exodus at the moment. Urbanized 09-25-2018, 11:11 AM I think Chick n Beer is a great example of a place that - while they do front 23rd - still FEEL a bit off the beaten path due to the building itself, yet manage to get and retain a loyal following by doing something interesting, different, and creative AND by adapting and listening to customers. Places with engaged owner/operators who are hands-on and responsive to customers are the places that survive long-term, period. I'm going a bit against my regular pronouncement that major automobile thoroughfare frontage is a primary reason behind the success of many places. I think this is a place that does well based more on a creative and engaged owner. Although I'm sure being on 23rd doesn't HURT. But while we were there our waiter told us that they will be moving to a new location in the spring. She said they will be moving to 6th and Classen, by Sunnyside Diner and Revolucion. They will be moving into a bigger building and that they will have access to a rooftop patio. Not sure how accurate this all is but she seemed pretty confident in what she was telling us. I'm sure what she meant is The Deck, the container project that is proposed for the east side of Classen. The owner of Chick n Beer is closely aligned with Northline Development who is doing The Deck. They are all working together on The Collective, for example. John Knight 12-03-2018, 11:11 AM I believe they plan to move Okie Pokie and Noodee over to Classen as well. derp 12-05-2018, 06:21 PM The gochujang wings are kind of gross. Way too sweet. Anyone here been to a BonChon chicken? I think one of those places would kill it here in OKC. Pete 12-05-2018, 06:26 PM The gochujang wings are kind of gross. Way too sweet. Anyone here been to a BonChon chicken? I think one of those places would kill it here in OKC. BonChon had a site in Edmond that lasted only a few months. I like the gochujang a lot at CnB. But lately I've been ordering the 5 Peppers or whatever they call it. Crazy hot but delicious. Have to eat them slow! derp 12-05-2018, 06:30 PM Wow. I never knew that Edmond had a Bonchon. I read the reviews. People liked the food, but there were major issues with service. I guess the corporations franchised it to the wrong people. I've had it in Korea and in Flushing, NY, and it has always been good. I'll try the 5 Peppers before I give up on Chick N Beer. Pete 12-05-2018, 06:38 PM I looked and it's called Peppers Galore: "A perfect mix between our BBQ HONEY RED CURRY, HOT GOCHUJANG, w/ the addition of habanero peppers, & garlic tabasco" I have a high tolerance and I have to eat them slooooow. But so good. Thomas Vu 12-05-2018, 10:24 PM Wow. I never knew that Edmond had a Bonchon. I read the reviews. People liked the food, but there were major issues with service. In addition to bad service, maybe poor location for the time? I think the next two places that took over also failed? sooner88 12-27-2019, 08:36 AM 15746 I didn't get the chance to go to the Mission Chinese pop-up at Lee's, but I heard great things. Timshel 12-27-2019, 09:42 AM 15746 I didn't get the chance to go to the Mission Chinese pop-up at Lee's, but I heard great things. These wings are so so so so good but are absolutely no joke. Been to mission Chinese twice this year and have left both times with a smile on my face and completely cleared sinuses. At his restaurant these wings (assuming the wings they serve for this event are the same as those served at the restaurant) are one of the first things to come out and my fiancé and I always joke that we have no idea if the rest of the food is any good because our taste buds are fried so early in the meal (but seriously, all of the food is really good). Would love if Danny Bowein opened something in OKC one day. aDark 12-27-2019, 10:49 AM Is Chick n Beer really moving? This will be a major loss to 23rd st. We love this place. Any update on new digs? Pete 12-27-2019, 11:00 AM This is just a pop-up at Chick n Beer. They are not moving. aDark 12-27-2019, 11:51 AM This is just a pop-up at Chick n Beer. They are not moving. I was referring back to posts #73-75. I now see they are dated 2018. I guess that potential move never happened. Pete 12-27-2019, 11:58 AM I was referring back to posts #73-75. Bill Robertson 10-16-2020, 01:29 PM I just saw where Chick N Beer is going to be on Diners Drive-ins and Dives tonight at 8. Being a fan of both I'll be watching. dankrutka 10-16-2020, 01:37 PM Oh, good. Every time I see a thread on a restaurant I am scared they're closing. Bill Robertson 10-16-2020, 01:46 PM Oh, good. Every time I see a thread on a restaurant I am scared they're closing. Yeah. But thank goodness not this time. Teo9969 10-16-2020, 03:07 PM Oh, good. Every time I see a thread on a restaurant I am scared they're closing. Agreed...and when i saw this this thread pop up I was like "NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" Bill Robertson 10-16-2020, 03:32 PM Sorry I scared anyone. I was just trying to give them kudos. If it was bad I'd have posted in Restaurant Closings. Just another oddity that today's issues have created. Boop 07-12-2022, 07:37 AM Is there any update on expansion? The owners are thinking of expanding in Moore and Edmond last year but it has not happened Libbymin 07-12-2022, 11:02 AM I hadn't heard anything but I bet these chicken wing establishments are tightening their belts. The cost of chicken wings has gone up by about 40% over the previous year which is just crazy, more so than most other food types. Even places like Wing Stop are having to get creative. |
