Ross MacLochness 11-04-2016, 09:07 AM Awesome! I'm anxious to see what happens to this property.
turnpup 11-04-2016, 09:45 AM Our organization shares office space with several other companies on the west end of this building. The space for sale is really cool, and could be rehabbed into a number of things. From what I've been told, all the original stuff is just covered up (as in, drop ceilings, the exterior panels where windows used to be, etc.). This space could be awesome if restored to its former glory.
One of the challenges to the sale of this building might be that there is no dedicated parking. St. Luke's owns the parking lot directly north that abuts the building.
My husband has some old pictures showing the original exterior facade. I'll try to find them and post.
rezman 11-04-2016, 10:24 AM The showroom shot above looks like it dates to about 1950 judging by the new Chrysler models on the floor.
Maybe the same time frame for the shop photo as that's a '46-'49 Chrysler Town & Country convertible,
Admin 11-04-2016, 10:31 AM According to the County Assessor, it was built in 1947.

These would be great to see. Is the current exterior close to the original?

Don't be fooled by those pebble concrete panels. The curved part used to be almost all glass, if memory of those photos serves.

That's awesome! I hate the pebble panels!

Agree
That's why I think Edmond North is such an ugly school.
turnpup 11-04-2016, 12:00 PM All right, I can't find the ones hubby has, but here are a few from the OK Historical Society archives. Looks like this was before the second floor was added.

HangryHippo 11-04-2016, 12:39 PM That last picture is incredible. What was the 3-story building on the south side of the street?
turnpup 11-04-2016, 01:24 PM I suspect an apartment building, just because everything else was still residential. Pete might know for sure.
Jim Kyle 11-05-2016, 07:24 AM I suspect an apartment building, just because everything else was still residential. Pete might know for sure. You are correct. In the mid-50s I knew someone who lived there.

Historic Chrysler Plymouth building sells (https://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=648-Historic-Chrysler-Plymouth-building-sells)
A former Chrysler dealership in the Midtown area has sold to a prominent local development group.
http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/ablerents1.jpg
The Pivot Project group – redevelopers of Sunshine Laundry, Tower Theatre and more – purchased the 1946 building earlier in the month for $1.885 million.
The property on the northwest corner of Harvey and NW 13th has been for sale for several years and is currently home to Able Rents.
The streamlined exterior has been covered with a concrete aggregate facade but the 2-level showroom is still largely intact with a large staircase leading up to a mezzanine level and original tile floors.
At some point, the western section of the former dealership was split off to separate ownership, and that building is renovated office space called The Monterey.
The remaining eastern portion contains nearly 32,000 square feet on two levels.

shawnw 08-26-2019, 01:20 PM I've long thought the Monterey folks would eventually buy this half and incorporate it into their development but I guess not.

That was my thought as well. But this is great news.
SagerMichael 08-26-2019, 01:59 PM I don’t know if a better group could’ve gotten their hands on this... big news
HOT ROD 08-26-2019, 04:23 PM any ideas what they plan to do?
Dob Hooligan 08-26-2019, 05:43 PM I think the exterior changes were done after the Murrah Building was bombed. I lived a few blocks away at the time and all the windows were blown out of that showroom area (same happened to the Bob Moore Oldsmobile building at 13th and Broadway). I remember that the building looked so much worse after the “clean up”, and I don’t think it was just because they put in much wider glass panels
These images are out there now as they attempt to find tenants.

DallasOkie086 11-07-2019, 11:12 AM My only hope is that this is epoxy or polyaspartic coating and not polished concrete.

Jeepnokc 04-06-2020, 06:46 PM I was trying to figure out what was different that made the original building more appealing and figured it out. The original building had a ledge around the curved part with their name on it. It really broke the large front blank facing. Still a much better improvement over what was there
shawnw 07-28-2020, 03:19 PM I couldn't find a forum thread for this, just this news article (https://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=648-Historic-Chrysler-Plymouth-building-sells), but per this Gardner Studio IG post, it seems to be theirs now?

They had a lift out front at noon and were chipping the rock facia off. There was brick underneath, at least on the upper reaches of it.

Off-topic, but check out the goofy placement of the lowercase 'y' on the "Harvey" sign to the left of the building... Someone realized too late that the sign wasn't big enough, haha.

This type of stuff is all over state signs. Why is it allowed?

Much of the time, sign work is contracted out to one firm that does the design, and a second one fabricates the actual signs. Sometimes this sort of thing will be present on the design blueprints. Other times the fabricator doesn't follow the plan sheets and errors are introduced at that stage. Sometimes it is both, and for whatever reason, ODOT appears to do zero error-checking at any point in the process.
I wish there was a more thorough investigation as to why, though. You don't see this level of unprofessionalism in any other state (except possibly New Mexico).
Dob Hooligan 08-17-2020, 06:33 PM I lived a couple block from there in April 1995, and all the showroom windows were blown out in the bombing. When the glass on the SE corner was replaced (directly below "Able Rents & Sales") I recall they used glass panes that were about a foot wider than the original, IIRC. Glass was hard to come by then, and I guess they used what they could get, or weren't worried about appearances. But, the wider panes threw off the optics of the flow around the corner and bother me to this day. I sure hope they use more narrow panes in the remodel.

Dob Hooligan 11-12-2020, 09:00 AM But.....the window area is being restored back to it's original size. The top line will line up with the bottom of the second story windows, instead of the top of the first story. Also restoring panes going northward.

turnpup 12-07-2020, 12:31 PM The windows on the north side of the building are looking very nice. It's cool to be able to see all the way through the building to 13th Street from back there.

Halls Pizza Kitchen is putting in Harvey Bakery and Kitchen here this fall. They announced this today.
mgharfeh 06-12-2021, 10:21 PM Are they leaving those vertical lines on the exterior of the brick exposed like that? Hope not.
shawnw 06-13-2021, 02:36 AM I asked this earlier and the answer was yes
mgharfeh 06-13-2021, 11:14 AM Wow poor design for an otherwise amazing company. It would look so much better without them.
Dob Hooligan 06-13-2021, 06:10 PM Wow poor design for an otherwise amazing company. It would look so much better without them.
I have zero inside knowledge, and this is pure speculation, but I’m guessing the prior facade damaged the existing brickwork in such a way that the vertical boards are necessary to keep the brick in place.
The Hall's Pizza group is taking the old showroom for Harvey Bakery & Kitchen.
Considering how beautiful their space is in Midtown, this could turn out to be pretty fantastic:
The Harvey Bakery & Kitchen is a warm & comfortable neighborhood restaurant where you'll want to be morning, lunch, & afternoon. Unlike anything in OKC, we're bringing pastries, breakfast & lunch, coffee, & more in a beautifully curated space for you to enjoy from early morning to late afternoon.
