The CS had a nice little run during Covid and the Marie Kondo years but, otherwise, that business model is just a complete disaster. People only need so many little plastic bins, and the majority of people in the market for plastic bins aren't going to willingly pay the CS tax. They'll just get them at Walmart or on Amazon and use the savings to hire professional organizers.

You've never met my wife.
bombermwc 10-18-2024, 07:53 AM April, have you ever shopped there? If you're looking at it as just a place for plastic bins, then you've really missed the boat on what that store is for. I purchased 3 of those Elfa shelves for my pantry and they have been great. That's not a product you get at Walmart. We also purchase some door handing pan lid organizers, and shelf version of those for bigger lids. Did some under the sink organizers. I mean the list goes on and on and they are not the kinds of things you get just anywhere. And they are much better quality than you get from some Chinese crap on Amazon.
If it's not your thing, cool, fine. But that doesn't mean that its not a thing for others.
Urbanized 10-18-2024, 08:14 AM Yeah, of all of the chain retail I once drove to other cities/states to visit (and pined for) over the past few decades - West Elm, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, IKEA, and others - Container Store is the one that I’ve ended up frequenting the most by the time it arrived. I’ve spent thousands there over the past few years.
Unless you’re absolutely CERTAIN what you’re getting on Amazon it’s a total crapshoot, especially for stuff like you might buy at Container Store. I’m definitely not anti-Amazon. Routinely it’s the biggest line item on my American Express statement.
But I’d rather shop for storage or certain kitchen/bath/closet/garage stuff at Target or Lowe’s than Amazon. And I’d 10X more rather shop at Container Store than those two places.
CCOKC 10-19-2024, 04:15 PM I got a garage organizer there this summer. It was designed very well by the team there and I paid for the installation. I know I could not have done such a good job if I had just picked out an organizer at one of the DIY box stores. I also took advantage of a major sale as well as 0 percent financing. I highly recommend.

exactly my thought. they need to focus more on the "customize your own solution" model, it's what i hear of most that people go to them for. but 2/3rds of their inventory is stuff you can get cheaper elsewhere
The legions of dollar stores also have lots of cheap bins and storage stuff.
And now Five Below, Popshelf, and Daiso have absolutely tons of office and home organization merchandise.
March 2021 their stock was $275/share down to 17 cents/share now.
LakeEffect 12-28-2024, 02:30 PM And, as my wife just said, once you've organized your house/office... you're done shopping there. Hard business model to run on in the long term.
stlokc 12-28-2024, 05:37 PM Your wife and my wife are not the same person (which of course you know LOL). We are in there monthly. Before Christmas it was boxes and wrapping paper. It's always something.

Another case where of a retailer providing a free showroom for online retailers. People see the storage solutions CS offers, balk at paying the price, and look at Amazon/Temu for a knockoff that comes directly from China.
