Their pizza never made it to The Gazett's Best Of list but in my opinion The Fleetwood was the best pizza in OKC. I'm crushed, hopefully some restaurant will buy the recipe.

Didn't the original Nomad burn down? Arson conspiracy I believe. Jack Sussman knew many a powerful people.

This was a favorite in our neighborhood. Best salad dressing around and the Sussy sauce was to die for. I'll really miss this place.

I used to love their pizza, but the food and service quality had really fallen off the last few years. Sad to see it close, but it wasn't what it once was.

LIke with all these places, most people stopped going quite a long time ago.

the first and last time I went was around 7 years ago... ordered veal parmesan (or some other veal dish) and received what tasted like pork loin parmesan. never thought about going back. -M

In my opinion, the best pizza in OKC. I have to admit though, that I haven't been in several years. Sussy's (Jake Samara's) pizza was outstanding. The Nomad kept it going. I'm going to miss them. I mentioned Jake Samara because he was the chef/owner behind the scenes and he hired Jack Sussman and created the name "Sussy's". I don't know if it was the first pizza in OKC, but it was close.

Used to live within walking distance and went all of the time. Up until maybe two years ago it was a few times a month carry-out for me (driving from downtown) and a more than a few times a year dine-in. The vermin story made me hold off for a while and I never made it back. R.I.P.; will always have a special place in my heart.

This was the little restaurant that couldn't.

It had some great features, but the service and the overall experience didn't cut it. It's a shame, because the food was quite good in many ways.

When we did eat there, it was typically pizza for take out because the service sucked so bad.

I really wish someone else around here would do the deep fried pepperonis on the pizza. That was my favorite thing. Sometimes, we'd get a Fleetwood and order deep fried pepperonis on the side. If someone could replicate that, I'd make it a regular stop.

Othello's (http://www.othellos.us/menu).... You can get a pizza (Murcer's Pizza) that has fried pepperoni or you can add fried pepperoni to any dish or have them as an appetizer.

I have no reason behind it but I never once ate there. Just never thought about it. .would pass it and think I should try sometime but never did..

I had never heard of this place.

Took my family there about every month or so. We always went during the week so it was never busy and very quiet. Food was fantastic and the service was decent. I have three kids under 8 so we try and eat out during the week when it is slow as to not disturb many folks. Very sad to see this place close. We all loved it.

Sad to see this go. Great local spot with local ownership. Had great food, and frankly I don't understand the comments of bad service because it was always good when we went. It just wasn't "cool" anymore and too often now in this town you have to be "cool"... good food is now an option. It was consistent over years, something hard to do in the food business. It will be missed....especially the pizzas with fried pepperonis. Another traditional OKC food spot not cool enough to make it. Losing two in a week is hard.

My understanding is that Jake Samara wasn't so much a chef as he was a restauranteur, bar & night club owner, businessman, innovator and promoter. .. The chefs worked for him.

I worked for Don Samara for a few years and he had quite a few colorful stories to tell of the Samaras in the early days in OKC, up into the 80's. Many of which I won't repeat. But they were some big players back in the day. ...Pretty impressive stuff.

The last few years, I only went in to pick up pizza to go, usually before the dinner hour. The cashier, bartenders, waiters, were all pretty uninterested in serving me anything. It just wasn't good service. Hadn't eaten at the restaurant in several years, so that experience could be different.

I must say, that is an exquisitely written article. Dave Cathey may be the most talented writer they have on The Oklahoman staff. Interesting read, to say the least.

I stand corrected, I shouldn't have said "chef". He was the man behind the man, owned many places, but I don't know that he ever was involved in the preparation of food. His last place was the Spaghetti Factory in the Paseo district.

It has been a number of years, not only did Nomad's make the Gazette poll, It used to win it.
