View Full Version : Taco Casa
Trisha 09-16-2016, 11:17 PM was Driving home tonite & on the Former Dickies BBQ marquee, it said Taco Casa Coming soon (on Air Depot blvd between Reno & se 15th)
anybody ever eaten at one of them before? how does it compare to Taco Bueno/Bell or Del Taco?
ljbab728 09-16-2016, 11:48 PM I've never heard of it. Did it appear to be part of this Texas based chain?

It looks like they also have a Norman location.

They are pretty good. Reminds me of a TacoTico
Urbanized 09-17-2016, 10:25 AM 20 years ago there were a few in OKC, including in the Century Center, roughly where the YMCA's front desk or yoga/class rooms are today. Burritos as big as your head.
kevinpate 09-17-2016, 11:43 AM There is a Taco Casa in Norman, on W Main next to Norman High. Not terrible, but like most fast food tacos, nada to get yourself excited about.
KayneMo 09-17-2016, 02:06 PM I like Taco Casa. There's one in my hometown Durant and another in nearby Calera. I probably went there more than I should, haha. Me and several other people from Durant got excited when Taco Casa opened in Norman while we were at OU.
Roger S 09-17-2016, 08:43 PM Like others have said it's just a fast food taco/burrito place but....... It's way better than Dickie's!!!
jerrywall 09-17-2016, 09:28 PM Love their taco burgers!
TacoTico was awesome! I had almost forgotten about it.
Urbanized 09-19-2016, 10:09 PM As a Wichita kid, I grew up on Taco Tico. I was eating it long before I'd even HEARD of Bell. Ate at one in Wichita just a few weeks ago for old times' sake. Not quite what I remembered, of course...
MikeLucky 09-19-2016, 10:51 PM Oh, this is great news. I love Taco Casa.... small detail, but they shred the cheese super fine and LOAD IT UP on the tacos. It is a bit reminiscent of Taco Tico. Now that I live in NW OKC I don't get over to Taco Casa in Norman much, but since I work at Tinker, this one will be great.

I heard a lot of Taco Tico's were forced to change their recipes by the corporate office. A handfull resisted the change. The one in Shawnee is supposed to be one of those that resisted. The sanchos at the Shawnee location are similar to the ones I remember eating in Hutchinson, KS as a kid but not quite the same. The taco burger at Shawnee still reminds me of the ones I ate as a kid.
I have not tried the one in Duncan.... We used to eat at the one in Newton when we would go up for the harvest festival in the town I grew up in but it closed a couple of years ago.
Brett 09-20-2016, 01:51 AM This is great news since I get my haircut just down the street. The location in Norman was the only reason that I would stray from the interstate and travel into the heart of the city.
Dickie's went to Hell in a handbasket (at this location). Good riddance. I feel for the creator (of Dickie's, not the Universe). His minion's didn't share the fevah! "Hey! We're just employees, doing enough to not-get-fired!"
Brett 11-05-2016, 07:56 AM Drove by the old Dickies/new Taco Casa site yesterday. There is a roll-away dumpster sitting in front of the restaurant and the front doors were wide open. Good to see that the renovation is currently underway.
Brett 01-12-2017, 02:01 AM Taco Casa is making good progress. The new facade and stonework are in place. I hope to see it open next month if possible.
Brett 01-28-2017, 08:01 AM Taco Casa is officially open in MWC!
stratosphere 01-29-2017, 06:18 PM TacoTico was awesome! I had almost forgotten about it.
As a kid we used to eat at Taco Tico in MWC, probably on Air Depot. I remember their enchilada dinner (not sure what they called it) was delicious.
Questor 02-04-2017, 09:00 PM Taco Casa reminds me of the taco shops in the 80s/90s before the food got all... "artificial"? It's good for fast food. Also it appeals to my retro nostalgia what with its knock-off Bell Burgers and black olive Enchiritos.
Roger S 04-23-2017, 11:11 AM The Burger King at 19th and Telephone Road in Moore closed recently and I've heard rumors that it's going to be converted to a Taco Casa.
Haven't heard anything from any official sources yet but that's the buzz on the Moore social media pages.

I grew up in Hutch. I too remember eating the sanchos and taco burger at the Taco Tico on 30th street. They were outstanding. You might also remember the Taco Grande on north main, just north of Skaets steaks. I always thought Taco Grande was a notch above many of the other Mexican fast food places of that time.
Roger S 05-01-2017, 07:40 AM Taco Tico in Shawnee closed down.
Yep... I'm honestly surprised they lasted as long as it did.

I don't remember the Taco Grande. Was it there in the early 70's? We moved to Oklahoma in 78. I do remember eating taco burgers at the original Taco Bell when all they served was taco/taco burgers, burritos, enchiladas, and frijoles.
We never went to Skaet's either.... There was a steakhouse on the highway between Hutch and Medora called the Royal K that we always went to.... Don't think that building is even still there.

Taco Grande was there at least until 1971, that is when I left Hutch to come to Oklahoma to go to college. I remember well the first Taco Bell down on East 4th st. It was kinda of a last choice after the other taco places. Skaets steaks was really more of a diner than steakhouse. It was where everybody went at 2a.m. when the bars(Like Carl's) and the Fireside Club closed and everyone had consumed way too much beer.

Hmmm... It was probably still there but I don't remember ever eating there.
Taco Casa just filed a building permit for the SW corner of Rockwell and Memorial, near the planned Chick-Fil-A.

Will this be OKC's first Taco Casa??

Not certain about OKC proper, but there is one on Air Depot in MWC and also one in Moore that I know of.

I hope they consider a store somewhere in the inner-city southside as well... Taco Casa is so good but I hate dealing with traffic on 19th street in Moore to get my fix.

the taco casa in "yukon" is actually in OKC proper ..
HangryHippo 05-06-2022, 08:23 AM Taco Casa does not have a location in OKC proper.
It surely does. That shopping center is in OKC.
5alive 05-06-2022, 05:06 PM Taco Casa is building a location in Shawnee near the I-40/Harrison exit next to a Dominoes Convenience Store.
okatty 05-06-2022, 05:50 PM I told people in my office (which isn’t far from the upcoming location on Memorial/Rockwell) that there was a Chick-fil-A coming. Then I said there is also a Taco Casa planned, and two of them literally jumped for joy. It got a lot more reaction than Chick-fil-A. Admittedly a small sample size.:)
Given the popularity of Taco Casa, you'd think they'd start building some stores more towards the center of OKC, as all their locations are in pretty out-lying areas.

Exactly. My wife and I love the place so much we have joked about opening a franchise. 36th and May? 23rd and Penn? 50th and May? All of those would be good locations.
Not sure why but their stores tend to be in smaller towns like Gainesville.
I recently visited the one in Yukon / W OKC and it was spotlessly clean. The food quality is the best in the genre.

Yeah.... Several years ago.
Dr Beard Face 05-11-2022, 11:27 AM Taco Lite is absolutely the best fast food taco to me. I really wish their nachos matched in quality as they were mega disappointing. I support more Taco Casa in OKC off the Taco Lite alone!!
Questor 05-20-2022, 06:45 PM I jokingly refer to Taco Casa as TACO BELL 1984. It’s basically the old Bell menu from back then including the burgers, but all the ingredients are fresh real food. It’s pretty great for fast food. Glad they’re expanding here.
Achilleslastand 05-22-2022, 02:32 AM A customer tonight told me he heard they are putting one at NW50th/May, which was news to me. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

I hope this is true!
It would have to be either the NW corner on the site of the demolished church, or south of Michael's in Mayfair.
I'll see what I can find out.
BlackmoreRulz 05-22-2022, 11:26 AM Any plans for the Edmond area?

rizzo 02-06-2023, 09:07 AM Taco Casa Rockwell & Memorial needs to get going!
SEMIweather 02-07-2023, 07:33 AM What should I be ordering from here? I have tried it on a few different occasions but never really understood the hype.

They don't have any crazy menu items or any one thing that's like knock-your-socks-off good... but the draw for many (including me) is that they are like an old-school Taco Bell, and they do all of the basics better than the Bell does today (in my opinion, at least). I mean, just for one thing, the tacos are properly filled and have a good portion of cheese in them - unlike the Bell where half the time my tacos are sad and underfilled, or just meat and lettuce with a few shreds of cheese. Usually when I'm going there, I'm getting a couple of tacos, a chilada (smothered burrito, very similar to the Bell's discontinued enchirito), and a combination burrito with spicy green sauce.
soonerguru 02-07-2023, 04:07 PM Taco Casa is the holy grail of fast food tacos and burritos. Really wish I had the capital to open one at 23rd and Penn. It would absolutely slay.
MagzOK 02-07-2023, 04:30 PM Yep, if there was one on the north side I'd be game for many visits.
CatholicSooner 02-16-2023, 07:23 AM I love Casa but don't go often due to the long wait times and the price. Hopefully once more open up the wait times will go down
rizzo 02-16-2023, 07:42 AM I have been to the MWC location several times. Never had to wait. In fact, there have only been a few customers each time. I am wondering what the holdup is on the Rockwell location starting. I see it is awaiting some revisions to be submitted to the city. They are not anything that would require a lag of months to amend.
I found this on the owner's website that controls the large shopping center on N. Penn and NW 138th just east of Quail Springs.
It shows Taco Casa taking the corner on Penn just south of McDonald's. Currently, that area is just a surface lot.

okatty 03-04-2023, 09:45 AM Very interesting! Is the TC location going in on Memorial at Rockwell just to West of the Chick-fila where the lot is prepped? For some reason I thought it was going to be South of it.

Pete, on that rendering it shows an exit/entry on the south end. Since the electrical substation is there I assume there will be another road in between TC and substation? And another inlet/outlet to Rockwell?. Or is it an easement into the electrical station only?

I'm not sure what you are seeing...
The curb cut for Taco Casa is north of the substation on the TC property. And the substation has its own drive south of that.
The two properties have nothing to do with each other.
