Main operations will continue to be in Krebs. Most, if not all, special releases will be at this OKC location (thank god!). benjico 04-17-2017, 01:14 PM A silly question given the name of the establishment, but is this a BAR serving Prairie beer or a BREWERY TAPROOM? I ask because state law currently requires taprooms at breweries to close at 9 p.m. (this will change in fall of 2018) but am curious how they will identify and how it will impact hours of operation. Anyone know? Pete 04-17-2017, 01:15 PM I believe it will be considered a tap room but various groups are actively working on changing the law and allowing them to stay open the same hours as bars. Pete 06-14-2017, 01:04 PM The interior is coming along; the Prairie bar will be where the small ladder and open drywall is: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/8th061417.jpg John Knight 06-15-2017, 12:43 PM Tank arrived at the brewery today. 13929 Pete 07-11-2017, 09:20 AM http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/8th070917a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/8th070917b.jpg John Knight 07-25-2017, 12:08 PM Just had a meeting with them and their location is coming together quickly. Their ambitious opening date is September 1st, but we'll see if they can hit that mark. 14026 Pete 08-02-2017, 09:01 AM http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/8thstreet080117.jpg John Knight 08-02-2017, 09:28 PM This building isn't even complete and it already looks amazing. I was flattered when the developer approached me about being a tenant, but unfortunately I am not ready yet. Hopefully they land some other great local businesses! On a side note, I live in Denton and it's cool to see more of these OKC brews available here. I live right next to a great little old gas station that is stocked full of craft beers. They carry about 6 or 7 beers from Prairie, 2 to 3 from Coop, and now 2 from Roughtail. I regularly pick up a Prairie Bomb! bottle, which sells for $9 each and sell regularly along with Christmas Bomb! and others. I also often pick up a Horny Toad and I keep asking for Coop to sell Elevator Wheat down here. The owner mentioned to me that he loves Coops' beers, but that they don't do much to promote them. I'm sure Coop is doing what they can, but I just wanted to pass along that commnent. John Knight 09-25-2017, 08:53 AM Production on their initial order will be finished tomorrow. 14142 Pete 10-02-2017, 08:18 AM http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie093017.jpg BridgeBurner 10-02-2017, 08:50 AM Unbelievably hyped for this to open. Also hoping the new American Solera taproom in Tulsa does well so maybe Chase will consider putting a taproom in OKC one day. dankrutka 11-05-2017, 11:41 PM Got a chance to stop in here and check out the space. They've done a fantastic job with the Prairie buildout. The rest of the building is bigger than I expected. After visiting the Milwaukee Public Market this summer, I just kept imagining something similar being done with the space that crams as many different restaurants, bars, and local merchants as possible in... However, it seems to me that they're going with fewer tenants taking the spaces in more typical sized spaces. Either way, I would think this will spur more development along 8th as this is the type of anchor that other developments will want to be near. I think they're doing that in Midtown. dankrutka 11-06-2017, 02:04 AM I think they're doing that in Midtown. I probably wasn't clear. I was in the "8th Street Market" building where Prarie is about ready to open. It's my understanding that they're breaking up the spaces with about 8 or so retail/bar/restaurant options in the building, but I am saying that I wish they went with even more than that. I'm sure they know what they're doing and I should probably withold any comments until the development is done. The build out is great. Looking forward to seeing the final product. Urbanized 11-06-2017, 09:17 AM check out the Grand Central Market in DTLA. I love that spot. They are doing something like that in Midtown at the Uptown Theatre! Yes, Grand Central Market is special. Ross MacLochness 11-06-2017, 09:42 AM Plupan is right, in addition to pararie, there will be another spot in midtown with that set up. dankrutka 11-06-2017, 09:58 AM Plupan is right, in addition to pararie, there will be another spot in midtown with that set up. Ah, yes, now I get the reference. I didn't realize PluPlan was referencing a different development. Got it. Yeah, that's a good point. BridgeBurner 11-13-2017, 02:47 PM Anyone heard whisperings of an opening date? Had been hoping I'd be able to take friends/family who were in town for Thanksgiving to the new Prairie spot. OkieHornet 11-13-2017, 03:28 PM At the OKBio Brewfest last Thursday, one of the pourers at the Prairie table told me this Wednesday. Said they weren't being too out there with it, keeping it soft for now. LocoAko 11-18-2017, 01:35 PM Went last night and loved it. Great vibe and was packed (but not overwhelmingly so). The 8th Street Market building is a lot bigger than I'd envisioned. This place is definitely going to be a hit for a long time to come. Pete 01-12-2018, 08:46 AM A couple of nice photos of this place. AHMM (architects) do such great work. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie011218a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie011218b.jpg Ross MacLochness 01-12-2018, 09:11 AM It's an awesome space. I can't wait for the rest of the building to fill up. BridgeBurner 01-25-2018, 01:29 PM Seeing a lot of movement inside the 8th Street Market building where Prairie is located. Several walls have been put up and one of the cordoned off areas has connex boxes stacked on top of one another. Any word on what any of this will be? I know about the Vietnamese place but that is all I have heard. Pete 01-25-2018, 01:43 PM Seeing a lot of movement inside the 8th Street Market building where Prairie is located. Several walls have been put up and one of the cordoned off areas has connex boxes stacked on top of one another. Any word on what any of this will be? I know about the Vietnamese place but that is all I have heard. There is a large space on the south side of the building which is being readied for Key Construction. It's in the southeast corner of the building, so directly across from Magasin Table (the Vietnamese place) and Prairie is also across the common area but on the west end. Key has already placed a couple of storage containers in their space, which should be pretty cool. Those are the only 2 build-outs at this time. I believe a small food court will take most the rest of the building (the south side). Pete 01-25-2018, 01:55 PM A picture is worth a thousand words: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/8thstreetmarket012518.jpg BridgeBurner 01-25-2018, 02:02 PM Ahh okay, yeah that Key Construction space was the one I was wondering about. Had all sorts of crazy questions about what could be going on with those stacked connex boxes, like some sort of Euro-style industrial club or something haha. Kind of bummed it won't be something open to the public but it should make for a cool office space. Any word if the prairie space will still be dog friendly once the food places open up? I always bring my dog there but I feel like that may be coming to an end once restaurants get involved. I'm hoping they put in a patio by the railroad tracks eventually. Thank you for posting those plans, that definitely helps me to visualize what is going on. Pete 01-25-2018, 02:10 PM I'm sure when food is served dogs will no longer be allowed inside, as there are health code issues. Rover 01-25-2018, 07:18 PM One of the things that struck me when I first started going to Paris was how the cafes allowed dogs and how well behaved the dogs were...mostly just sitting by the owner’s chair without moving and with no noise. Seemed very normal. ditm4567 01-08-2019, 01:59 PM Prairie president talking about how the government shutdown is hurting business... https://www.msnbc.com/craig-melvin/watch/beer-makers-feeling-effects-of-government-shutdown-1421951555516 dankrutka 01-08-2019, 03:13 PM Dang. Pete 05-28-2023, 07:07 AM One of the most popular of the many taprooms and breweries in the state, Prairie Artisan Ales, is set to expand to downtown Edmond and is adding an indoor pickleball court to its Oklahoma City location. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723e.jpg In Edmond, developer Brandon Lodge has negotiated a ground lease from the City of Edmond to redevelop what is now a maintenance building next to the farmer's market and just south of the Railyard project. The project would repurpose the building and enclose the south half of the plaza and create a large beer hall. Prairie will join Frenzy Brewing, The Patriarch, and American Solera to form an emerging 'ale trail' in the area, which is booming. The Silos, a large apartment complex, is well under construction nearby and the tiny home development The Lark has seen strong sales. All this is in addition to the Railyard, The Icehouse Project, and countless other new businesses and projects in downtown Edmond. Lodge is also the developer and owner of the 8th Street Market near downtown OKC where Prairie is the anchor. The plan is to add an indoor pickleball court just to the south of the taproom in a large open area that will also be surrounded by micro-businesses such as retail and food service. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723ca.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723da.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723b.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723f.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723g.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723j.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723i.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723h.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/prairie052723k.jpg Thomas Vu 05-28-2023, 08:05 AM Glad the space is seeing use. dankrutka 05-28-2023, 12:50 PM Man, downtown Edmond has come so far in a pretty short time. Great addition to the area. corwin1968 01-01-2025, 09:36 AM Glad to hear this is progressing. I'm already at American Solera and Frenzy fairly often and I HATE going to the area where PAA is currently located, so this will be a very welcome addition to the area. We had checked out the location a couple of weeks ago and demolition hadn't started yet. We drive by fairly regularly, but it's hard to see from 2nd street. I just drove by and snapped a photo of the area. It will be interesting to see how they handle foot traffic from the Railyard, and it's large parking lot, to the Farmer's Market, if the new building takes up the South portion of the plaza. 19395 fromdust 01-01-2025, 10:58 AM Glad to hear this is progressing. We only discovered their old location by accident and didn't order any beer, but we've been to the new location several times. I prefer traditional styles of beer and many of Battered Boars are NOT that. Most of their beers have some kind of other major flavor, often a dessert of some kind, mixed in. They are very good at making beer and I've enjoyed every one I've tried. They brew one of my all time favorite beers, which is the Lime Saltun. Their coconut cream stout is also very good. They have a colorful wall board with the names of their beers and a brief description, like most taprooms have, but you have to look at the small whiteboard on the counter to see what is actually available on any given day. Their descriptions of the beers are usually something along the lines of "it tastes like strawberry cheesecake". The lady who works the counter said they specialize in beer for people who don't like beer, and that's a pretty good description. I always recommend beer fans who want something different to try them out. I can't emphasize strongly enough, the word "different", but the beer is very good and it's a good experience. |
