I couldn't find a previous thread about this so I hope this is not an duplication. I tried this place a couple of weeks ago prior to a performance by the City Cabaret in the performance area of the Paramount Building. I liked it so much we are going back Saturday evening. It has a small but very interesting menu and a quiet atmosphere with soft jazz in the background. They offer live music in the evenings. The prices are very reasonable and it is a great addition to this area.

Its a great spot.. we have went several times and enjoy it. a friend of mine plays music there on occasion. My one complaint and its probably being nit picky.. is the Cocktail and wine and beer list. they went overboard with descriptions on all of these. I mean they have a paragraph describing what an angy orchard is. but no price.

Went here for the first time last night before we saw Retro Wonderland by The City Cabaret next door, and it was pretty good, surprised we were only one of two tables in there. Wife had the special (only 2 left at that point, and she was glad she was one of them, it was really good) - ribeye with wine mushroom sauce, butternut squash puree, and wilted greens. I had the pork tenderloin with date/apple/cranberry chutney (except it was apple and cabbage and cranberries) and rosemary glazed carrots (pork and apples were great, carrots were just carrots). Both of us had a cup of the spicy pork stew (soup du jour), which tasted really fresh and good and had *lots* of pork in it and we split a Heath bar cake (which was more of a pumpkin/gingerbread cake with some Heath bars and caramel on top). I had the Krampus cocktail, tried to order another one, but couldn't as he was out of the Remy Martin (but there was a liquor store just down the street about 1 block, why can't restaurants get stuff when they run out like they used to instead of just saying "we're out"?), so got a Roman Holiday. Wife had 2 coffee martinis, which were wonderful, best cocktail we've had in a long while. Neither drink is listed on their site, they're seasonal. Would go again, but not soon, too many other places to try first.

Huge ABLE violation buying alcohol from liquor store and reselling in bar. All bar liquor has to come through the liquor distributor.

I had the good fortune to live with the lady responsible for all that good food and drink for a short while. She has an incredible palate and is so skilled!

Good reason, thanks for the info. Wondering if that's an OK-specific restriction or if it's that way in other states? Doesn't explain restaurants running out of basic food items and not attempting to restock, but attitudes change, I guess, and "we're out" is apparently more acceptable now than it used to be.

It’s in most states. Has a lot to do with taxes. Generally the taxes a restaurant pays from the distributor are higher than retail. Next time you’re at a bar in Texas look at their liquor bottles, you’ll see them covered in stickers. Those stickers signify taxes have been paid and are put on the bottle by the distributor at delivery.
