gopokes88 04-12-2016, 10:57 AM Wynn?s lagoon project would use less water than 18-hole golf course | Las Vegas Review-Journal (http://m.reviewjournal.com/business/wynn-s-lagoon-project-would-use-less-water-18-hole-golf-course)
This is pretty cool. Steve Wynn has always been a visionary.
(Side note: do NOT copy and paste the article, click it, LV RJ has sued websites in the past for that.)
bchris02 04-12-2016, 12:10 PM Shouldn't this be in the "other cities" subforum?
twade 04-12-2016, 12:54 PM Seems to be a clear response to the Alon project.

My bad, mods can move it.
Richard at Remax 04-13-2016, 10:40 AM So he is getting rid of the golf course? Looks like some of it will still be there but what's the point. I've never been able to get my schedule worked out to go play there. Better get it in gear before it get razed
Plutonic Panda 04-15-2016, 06:47 AM Theme resorts are staging a comeback in Las Vegas too. I drive to Vegas all the time mainly as an excuse to get away but I love the strip. A lot of cougars there ;)
"Mars World" simulation to bring Mars to Las Vegas (http://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/03/30/mars-world-simulation-to-bring-mars-to-las-vegas/)
I like this. I've always though a space themed resort would be cool. I was sad when the Moon thing didn't happen.
Plutonic Panda 01-31-2017, 03:15 PM Raiders Stadium faces a huge problem now that Adelson has pulled out and it seems for good reason though I would love to see this stadium built in LV and SD get MLS. SD submitted for MLS anyways.

Goldman Sachs can save it, let's see if they do.
I'd love an NFL team in Las Vegas. That would be awesome.
Plutonic Panda 01-31-2017, 05:24 PM GS backed out I believe saying that if the Adelson funding isn't there it won't happen. :(

Raiders better go back to Adelson with tail between their legs
Plutonic Panda 12-24-2019, 12:40 AM Some great news for Las Vegas strip. Passenger rail likely following the desert wind route that was abandoned. Raiders Stadium is getting close to being finished. Resorts World is making good progress but has changed direction— I just hope they still plan on the giant panda exhibit. Tropicana interchange is going to be expanded and rebuilt with the first phase adding an overpass and extending Valley View over the train tracks.
Las Vegas boulevard is set to be completely rebuilt and expanded in several areas.
Lots of good stuff happening in Las Vegas with project Neon wrapped up they are making changes to the HOV lane access which honestly I like the original express lane setup more. I also don’t think 24 hour HOV lane enforcement is needed in Vegas.
A couple wish list projects for the Vegas area I have is seeing I-515 rebuilt and expanded. I would also like to see the proposed elevated roads built to McCarran, and subterranean heavy rail going from the airport to Fremont. I also wouldn’t mind seeing monorail expanded even though if HRT was built under the boulevard it would be a bit redundant.
I’d post pictures and more information but I’m on my phone and formatting is a pain.
okatty 12-24-2019, 09:18 PM ^ Also, posts about the Raiders stadium demise back in ‘17 have not aged well - it’s going to be pretty cool! I’ll head that way for at least one game a season and most likely 2 (and not a Raiders fan).
Plutonic Panda 12-25-2019, 06:24 AM I’m happy the stadium went through! I was very worried it wasn’t to happen. I’m happy I was wrong here.
mugofbeer 12-25-2019, 11:52 AM Isnt Elon Musk's Boring Co. doing some sort of short tunnel project in the Strip?
okatty 12-26-2019, 10:17 PM I’m happy the stadium went through! I was very worried it wasn’t to happen. I’m happy I was wrong here.
There were good reasons for the doubt. I think this will be awesome for LV. We normally have gone 1-2 times a year, but have trailed off last couple of years. This will virtually guarantee one trip in the fall/winter to take in a game. I’d love to see the Cowboys, Browns, Cardinals among others.
Plutonic Panda 12-27-2019, 05:26 AM I can’t help but wonder whose up next for a new stadium. SF chase center is beautiful. We have Rams and Raiders set to open soon. For MLB the Anaheim Angeles(I know technically Los Angeles but f@ck that) just signed a commitment to staying in Anaheim after mulling a move to Long Beach. I wonder if we will get a new stadium and development around it.
OKC is poised to build and MLS stadium or one that can be expanded. I’m unsure of any others UC or planned.
My only concern with raiders stadium is access and I wish they would have built a special flyover off I-15 for this to ease the demand on local streets. Streets like frank Sinatra dr come to a standstill during knights games.
Richard at Remax 12-27-2019, 09:12 AM Was talking with someone when I was there last and they are only building about 10K parking spots for the stadium. Trying to get a deal together to use Mandalay Bay parking across the interstate and build a pedestrian bridge. If that doesn't work then people will have to be bused in.
People need to set their expectations now on tickets to these games now. It will probably be minimum $200-300 just to get in. It will be just like the Knights games. Feed on opposing fan bases where there are zero deals to be had, even after the games have started.
Been following Resorts World for years now. Pretty disappointed on the final design. Leaves a lot to be desired. Will def check it out when it opens though.

Richard at Remax 11-02-2020, 11:29 AM Was there last week. That new Resorts World is reallllly ugly. I think they open next summer. Circa looks awesome though. We missed the opening by a few days.
Plutonic Panda 11-02-2020, 01:49 PM I was there during Circas opening but didn’t check it out. I’ll probably drive to Vegas tomorrow and hit it up. I know the hotel isn’t open yet.

They are finishing the Fountainebleau. The building was erected and construction stopped in 2009, when is was about 75% completed.
Bullbear 03-11-2022, 08:05 AM Surprised there is no post here about the MSG Sphere construction. I am very interested in this finished product and see it in use.

Plutonic Panda 03-11-2022, 08:12 AM The sphere is coming along very nicely. That thing is going to be incredible I am going to try and snag opening day tickets.
Richard at Remax 03-11-2022, 09:16 AM Stoked about the FB. Been looking at that thing for over a decade now waiting for them to finish it.
My last trip I checked out both Circa and Resorts World. I loved Circa. 8 East Restaurant is legit (eating there this next Wed night). I was less than impressed with Resorts World. It was nice and all but nothing really made it stand out to me to really want to go back. and it's UGLY!
gopokes88 03-11-2022, 11:34 AM They are finishing the Fountainebleau. The building was erected and construction stopped in 2009, when is was about 75% completed.
Amazing. It was originally going to be a FB, went through 3-4 different iterations back to FB
Plutonic Panda 04-28-2023, 06:33 PM Possible movement on the LV to LAUS HSR line with the LV to Victorville segment starting first:

scottk 04-28-2023, 06:54 PM I was out there for a convention recently and tried the Tesla tunnel that runs from the convention center to Resorts World, the tunnels are also known as the Vegas Loop. They still had drivers for each vehicle, and our driver mentioned that there are plans to expand completely down the strip.
While there was a cool factor, it didn't seem to be nearly as efficient as the existing monorail in moving large groups of people. Each vehicle can hold 3 passengers, and you had to wait for cars at each station to load/unload and there was a time we had to continue in the tunnel and loop back around because there was no unloading spots open at the queue station.
Anyone else who has traveled out there have thoughts?
Plutonic Panda 04-28-2023, 07:16 PM Can’t speak to that but I wish they’d build subterranean heavy rail from the airport to downtown. I think it would be extremely popular and should be free to use.
Thankfully they’ll be widening the 515 by a large amount and it’ll be remembered I-11. Great stuff happening. If you’re driving be sure to prepare for the Tropicana/15 project. It’s a f@cking bitch. Down to two lanes.
PS, would you recommend a Tesla? I’m going to get an EV for the city but I’m torn between a mini EV and tesla. I’d like a Hummer or Lucid but too expensive.
scottk 04-28-2023, 07:50 PM Can’t speak to that but I wish they’d build subterranean heavy rail from the airport to downtown. I think it would be extremely popular and should be free to use.
There was. plan at one time to connect the existing monorail on the east side of the strip to the airport and to downtown. Neither have happened, and the speculation is the cab driver/taxi unions have been able to lobby against it since those two routes probably account for the biggest profits annually. With the rise of Uber/Lyft and its popularity, especially with the younger demographic, I am not sure the taxi union in Vegas is as powerful as it once was, but to no avail, you still have to take a car to and from the airport and from Fremont.
With the rise of Allegiant Stadium, T-Mobile Arena, and the tentative MLB stadium just north of Allegiant Stadium, you would hope for a push to easily move people from the strip to those locations. T-Mobile luckily is in walking distance wedged between NYNY and ParkMGM/Aria.
At one time there was a plan to take the Mandalay Bay/Luxor/Excalibur tram and somehow have it go across the interstate to the Raider's stadium. Not sure if that plan got off the ground.
Plutonic Panda 04-28-2023, 07:54 PM Yeah I’ve heard that. PS just in case anyone hasn’t experienced Fremont it’s easily a vacation all on its own. And rent a car in Vegas. Go to Boulder city, red rocks, Mt. Charleston, Valley of Fire sp… rent a sports car preferably something fast. Not much highway patrol in valley of fire you can unwind and have fun. Vegas is one of my favorite places. Just can’t beat it. I’m here now and even off the strip there is amazing food. I love this town.
Richard at Remax 04-29-2023, 08:41 AM The monorail is terribly inefficient. It usually takes forever to walk to from the hotels so by the time you are there you could have already been in a cab/uber and be on your way.

You’re so right but it is fun to ride especially when you’re drunk or trippin on shrooms.
gopokes88 05-01-2023, 04:50 PM New A's stadium going to be just off strip
https://fansided.com/2023/04/23/new-stadium-las-vegas/
scottk 05-01-2023, 07:44 PM Is there another city with professional sports teams where all three majors venues are literally within a square mile of each other?
TMobile Arena - NHL
Allegiant Stadium - NFL
A's Stadium - MLB
While I understand the benefit to having the strip and hotels across the interstate, especially for pulling in visiting team fans, I do wonder if the 80+ games in MLB will have a consistent impact on rates at the hotels nearby? When we traveled out to Vegas, it was always easy to see when Golden Knights and Raiders games were, because rates would jump much higher for those nights, especially on south strip by MGM Grand and NYNY.
If (when) Las Vegas gets a NBA franchise, I imagine there would be high interest of Thunder fans to plan trips around games at TMobile Arena in addition to their vacation.
Just the facts 05-01-2023, 08:00 PM Cincinnati has baseball, football, and hockey all right next to each other. MLS is on the other side of downtown.
SEMIweather 05-01-2023, 08:00 PM Ford Field, Comerica Park, and Little Caesars Arena in Detroit are all extremely close to each other. Philadelphia also has Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park, and the Wells Fargo Center right in the same complex.
Mississippi Blues 05-01-2023, 11:43 PM At one point, Seattle had a proposal to build an NBA/NHL arena just south of Safeco Field (Mariners) which is also located immediately south of CenturyLink Field (Seahawks/Sounders). Assuming the Kraken still came into existence and the SuperSonics eventually come back, all four of the major sports leagues plus an MLS team would’ve operated on three blocks being separated only by parking and a single active street between them.
soonergolfer 05-01-2023, 11:50 PM Cleveland has the three venues all writing walking distance, plus a casino.

Side note, I visited Seattle last April and was super impressed with the renovated Climate Pledge Arena. Very rare to see a stadium that doesn't overshadow its surroundings, but I thought that this one fit in perfectly with the rest of the Seattle Center complex. I would like to visit Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City someday for the same reason - that one looks like an old middle school from the outside even though it seats 15,000 people.

Just the facts 06-14-2023, 11:00 AM Ouch - wonder if this has a chance of passing. I certainly hope so but it should be extended to any business that uses taxpayer funds.

shavethewhales 06-27-2023, 09:00 AM I actually just got back from a quick Vegas weekend. I stopped by the Tropicana just to see it before it goes away and was surprised by how TINY the casino was. It's like a quarter the size of the typical strip casino. The towers look pretty bleak from the outside at this point - obviously not trying to keep up appearances anymore. The inside is clean and looks pretty classic still though. Not surprised at all that this was an easy target for demolition - there's not even any room inside to remodel it to add stuff very easily.
Vegas is so weird development wise. Right across the strip from the massive Cosmo/Aria/Waldorf complex they are building low-rise commercial instead of another Casino or resort like you'd expect. Should be nice, but you wonder why they aren't building more towers on the several high profile open spots on the strip. Still seems to be plenty of demand for more rooms! I stayed at the Mirage (wanted to see it before the conversion) and it was booked solid this weekend.

Strip can't adsorb that much that fast. Fountaienbleu coming up later this year too on the heels of resorts world.
Plutonic Panda 08-02-2024, 03:03 PM The Bellagio is planning an expansion with more shops and retail replacing that very long pedestrian bridge on the northwest part of their property. This comes after they’ve renovated multiple parts of the hotels and changed up some of their rooms into suites.
https://www.fox5vegas.com/video/2024/07/02/mgm-resorts-submits-plans-new-retail-restaurant-space-by-bellagio/
Plutonic Panda 08-02-2024, 03:07 PM I really am not a big fan of what is happening in Vegas overall. Both the Tropicana and the mirage are now completely completely closed. The Tropicana is being dismantled, and that is moving along pretty quickly. I believe they will do an implosion, but I’m not sure.
Regarding the mirage, The last volcano show was last week. I went and saw it and it was heartbreaking. So much history that. One of the few cool free things You can see randomly while walking down the strip. It does seem like in some of the newer renderings they plan on keeping the mirage building while building the new guitar shaped hard rock, hotel, and casino. I’m not sure if that’s because they just didn’t feel like editing it out or if they plan on keeping it and renovating it. If it’s latter, that would be really cool.
shavethewhales 08-02-2024, 03:47 PM The plan is indeed to keep the Mirage tower and add the new Guitar shaped hotel in front of it.
Nothing ever stays the same in Vegas. For all the history and nostalgia people talk about with the Mirage and Tropicana, those properties were 34 and 67 years old respectively and changed many times throughout their history. The final version of the Tropicana that got demolished was mostly constructed in the 70's and 80's.
It does suck that Vegas gets continually more expensive and there are less truly unique, interesting, and cheap or free things to do, but that's capitalism for you. They keep lowering the bar and people keep buying in record numbers.
I was actually just there last weekend and stayed downtown. That is a much more authentic Vegas experience than the mega resorts on the strip - and typically a bit cheaper too.
Plutonic Panda 08-02-2024, 03:52 PM I’m going to the Fontainebleau For the first time next week, so I’m pretty excited for that. I’ve heard it’s a nice hotel. I still haven’t been in resort world nor the Sphere. Those are both on my list. I do enjoy staying downtown, but the panhandling on Fremont is getting a bit out of control.
