The last remnant of the 700-car Riviera Drive-In Theatre at 8 SE 59th Street is sadly no more. The owner of the land, 59th Street Business Park, LLC, filed for a demolition permit for the main building in January, and it was granted on the 11th of March. This last remaining building contained the concession stand, projection booth, and office space. Yesterday, the building met it's demise. 59th Street Business Park, who has owned this land since 2003, does not appear to have any immediate plans for the land - the "Proposed Use" box on the demo permit is marked "None".

Thanks to the County Assessor's Office, here's what the building looked like in 2003:

Maybe it'll turn into a lake, and then become a parking lot for construction trailers while something tall shiny and ugly gets built across the way.

It's been known to happen.

I had a lot of good times seeing trashy movies and engaging in questionable activity at that theatre. Good times.
