Steve just tweeted that a "national developer" passed on downtown because of the fight over this project. So, that's pretty awesome.

I'll see what I can find out on this but keep in mind that Steve has an obvious ax to grind with Rand Elliott so best to take these things with a grain of salt.

Yeah I personally find it hard to believe a developer would pass on a city over a single project, although this building did get absolutely butchered in design review...

Rand Elliott happens to be an out of control ass that needs to be reined in. However, I'm skeptical that a national developer would pass on downtown OKC entirely simply due to him.

The design was changed due to compromise involving the informal Automobile Alley group headed by Rand which has no actual authority.

So the comment makes even less sense.

Yeah, he's really taking him to task. I am dissapointed too by how Broadway Park was handled, and I completely understand how someone might be frustrated with Rand, but I feel like Steve has been way too critical of him and the AA committee.

The developer on this project was treated horribly, and the resulting "compromise" design is arguably more unsightly than the original. it was a shameful spectacle overall, because people involved were making decisions they were not authorized to make. It does set a very bad precedent.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the original design. I thought it looked good. The redesign looks unsightly, though.

They filed a $4.9 million building permit application today.

Usually takes at least two months to approve before we seen any real construction.

They have removed all the vehicles from this location.

There was a crane over in that direction this morning, did you see exactly where it was by chance?

I believe they are performing HVAC work on the Buick building.

I saw a article by Steve Lackmeyer in the Daily Rag stated that they are starting demolition on the old gas station. Also, as Pete reported, a building permit has been filed. It is hard looking at the renderings to really see the finished product, however, it is nice to see them tear down a old dilapadated building and start fresh.

First comes the "MW" Midwest Wrecking mark of death (from a few days ago) and then down comes the building (from today):

Which gets completed first? Broadway Park or OK Contemporary? Eager to see them both done, but also it will be an interesting juxtaposition for them to both be going up at the same time given their histories... or is it just me?

They've dug quite a hole on the south side of the site. Incidentally, as I walked by last night it struck me that those billboards on the building directly south might need to be turned around or they're about to lose quite a bit of their value! :P

I haven't walked by in a while. I wonder if they had to remove some below ground storage tanks. That would explain a large hole. Or, could be preparing for drilling/foundations.

I had thought "basement" but I don't see one in the plans, so I bet some sort of storage tanks are a possibility given the previous use of the property...

They installed the crane today (or yesterday). Pretty cool to see this crane there along with another one just south a block. Might be a good photo op for a drone...

He could have stood atop the tallest building in florida, shirtless, byahhhhhing to the wind, rallying all floridians to do the same. We could have beat Irma.

Wouldn't even have to put a lot of work into is.

This will be an interesting development. I really like it. With the Mercedes Benz dealership about to move, I wonder what will become of the existing structure?

This developer has to get some credit here. Put up with way too much BS from design review, asked for no TIF money, and is building a well built concrete structure that will be a nice bookend for auto alley.
