Haha, I have some friends that went down to Azteca when the US drew with Mexico during world cup qualifying. They said that was an intense environment, bags of piss being thrown, police escorts and all kinds of other crazy stuff.

So last year it was the GRID vs the Energy front office, this year its the GRID vs the Rayo front office.

Does anyone see the correlation?

If I read the story right, it's a matter of selling at current value as opposed to not giving a group discount.

That was a great turnout by the Grid, and a great game by the Energy!

Congratulations to the Oklahoma City Energy FC on their win against Rayo OKC in Yukon as they advance in open cup competition.

Great atmosphere, an outstanding game by both teams. Good contingent of enthusiastic Energy FC fans and the Grid supporters group.

Good Luck to the OKC Energy FC as they take on FC Dallas in the 4th Round of the Lamar Hunt U. S. Open Cup Soccer.

The Energy have been putting in work and look pretty good, sitting nice in 7th with all the other teams in the league playing at least one more game than us. The game against Swope Park was fun to watch, tired of going down by one in the first half though still looking like a second half team like last year.

I'm betting the energy get a new logo soon.

I did a google search for that image, no matches, which means it's most likely not in use. In fact google said best guess it was the Energy logo. It looks to be a "distressed" printing on a shirt. It's a likely that the shirt is ripping of the Energy as the other way around.

jerrywall
06-23-2016, 01:08 PM
In fact, I checked real quick and the Energy logo is a registered trademark. Now that doesn't 100% prove anything, but coupled with the fact that Ben Felder said he saw that at a "tacky souvenir shop" I'd pretty much guarantee that some shirt designer modified the Energy logo.

It's super common for small press items to use sports logos and modify them (albeit not smart cause it will get you sued).

Ah that makes sense. I'm guessing the energy will be sending a C&D soon.

Saw some tweets from grid guys that they were upset with the way the energy handled tonight. Any insight by anyone? Guess they gave the chivas fans some of their seats or parking spots?

Pretty much the entire night as far as I could tell was Chivas was given a lot of control over tonight i.e. ticket prices, parking, and what I assume is the decision not to televise the game. Basically if you were a season ticket holder you were looking at double what your regular seat cost to go tonight, plus you had to pay for parking. That's why we stayed home. I would have liked to have gone, but I'm sure they weren't hurting for willing payers for tonight.

I totally get it, you don't get a top Liga MX team here to play a USL side without giving up a lot of control. Sounds like some Grid members need to understand that.

Some of the issues and concerns that I am aware of:

- Smoke Bombs: The Grid always does smoke bombs, and they have special containers that they drop them in to set them off in a safe manner. It sounds like the Chivas fans lit theirs and threw them into the stands where the Grid was standing and somebody got hit with them and (maybe) burned, although I am not certain on that.
- They blocked of the route to the away locker during the entire game and prevented people who entered through the east gates from getting to their seats.
- A general feeling that the FO bend over backwards to make this a Chivas home game for the fans. Which makes sense from a marketing perspective and wanting to make sure that the Chivas fans have fun and come back for Energy games, but still rubs people the wrong way.

Great Crowd tonight at the energy FC game against Chivas over 6,000 fans was in attendance for this match

A great crowd (6,687) for a Tuesday election day.

Didn't get a chance to attend the game; however, the highlights on the local media feeds (channels 5 & 9) were interesting.

Chivas de Guadalajara were guests. This was a special event for Oklahoma City; it would be nice to attract a 'friendly' exhibition involving more international teams on an annual basis. It would help if we had a first class soccer specific venue in the Core (Downtown-Bricktown-Riverfront) area with chair back & arm rest seats.

Hopefully, the Energy FC brass can learn from this situation should they schedule any future events of this magnitude.

Disappointed that the game wasn't televised locally or on YouTube.

Good point Tundra!

Why does this sound so familiar. Prior to the NBA coming to OKC we heard the same concern about average ticket prices; that the average NBA ticket was $45 back in 2007.

Oklahoma City's trial run in the NBA (Hornets) averaged 18,164 in 2006 & 17,833 in 2007 (two seasons) before landing the OKC Thunder who averaged 18,693 our first year (2008-09) in the NBA--pre seat arrangement before its current 18,203 permanent seat configuration.

It would be a very tough sell:

Soccer would be our best fit; NBA & MLS seasons don't interlock as much; besides, you have two different fan bases.

The average MLS ticket price is $46. 22 (2015 study) far cry from the $50 & $80 tickets reported sold at the Chivas de Guadalajara vs. OKC Energy FC game at Taft Stadium on a Tuesday night. A Friday or Saturday nite encounter with Chivas would have produced a 7,500 seat sellout.

The National television exposure by the MLS would generate more interest than the current tier II NASL Rayo OKC & tier III USL Oklahoma City Energy FC.

Oklahoma City is doing great with two lower division soccer league franchises in our metro area with a combined average of 10,500 fans. Just think what the enthusiasm & interest might be if we had an 18,500 - 21,000 seat MLS-ready riverfront soccer specific stadium in one league.

Got to hand it to the USL teams, especially our Oklahoma City Energy FC; they have been very competitive in the Lamar Hunt Open Cup competition beating NASL @Rayo OKC before losing to Dallas FC in a 6 - 5 shootout .

Would like to mention that the Oklahoma City Energy FC has been involved in a number of contests that are not on their 2016 USL schedule (Lamar Hunt - Mississippi Brilla FC, NASL Rayo OKC & MLS Dallas FC) and an intentional friendly with Chivas de Guadalajara .

Huge match with LA Galaxy II this Saturday. Our defense and goalkeeping this season has been fantastic. However, as impressive as our defense has been, our offense has been as equally unimpressive. The offense is going to have step up against goal happy Los Dos.

Let's hope DANNI KÖNIG has a break out game against LA Galaxy II. Agree, Kwhey, our offense has been unimpressive.

Michael Harris' flip throw in is very popular & impressive when the OKC Energy FC play in other cities. Cody Laurendi is a very skilled goalkeeper, fast & agile big man @ 6' 3" at 212 lbs.

Really impressed with the attendance figures for our USL OKC Energy FC & NASL Rayo OKC in our market. Games for both local teams are televised on KSBI 52 (Energy FC) and ESPN 3 (Rayo OKC); yet. combined they draw 10,000 plus fans; that's a good gauge that's impressive for a minor league soccer market.

Our market covers roughly 1.35 million with a wide range of sports that include a major league NBA franchise (Thunder, 255 consecutive sellouts 18,203), University of Oklahoma (Sooners, 87 consecutive football sellout--84,000 plus) & AAA PCL Baseball (Dodgers current average 6,584).

Oklahoma City Energy FC has the best path to MLS.

My question: Is the Energy FC ownership familiar with the profit-sharing model of the MLS (different than the NBA) where the league (MLS) gets the Lion's share of the profits through a nationally televised media.

Personally, I feel that OKC would support MLS with a stadium on the Producers Coop Mill site with our metropolitan area of 1.4 million solidly behind one franchise. Let's hope we haven't alienated the Rayo OKC fans from becoming part of the future of soccer in OKC under the umbrella of the Energy FC ownership.

https://media.apnarm.net.au/img/media/images/2014/09/18/IQT_19-09-2014_NEWS_07_STADIUM_fct657x492x187.0_ct620x465.jp g

OKC should look seriously at building a city-owned & operated facility (much like with the Peake) at city-owned property on the riverfront or at State Fair Park.

Place something on the MAPS IV initiative with a budget of $100 million. If an MLS franchise wants to come in, let them build all the revenue producing amenities (suites, boxes, premium seats) as an anchor tenant. Give them the naming-rights (as with the Thunder) if they are willing to do this.

Private/City partnership venue: If the Energy FC ownership wants to partner with the city by supplying the land; work out some kind of agreement where events other than soccer; like American football can be played in the stadium.

Our metro area has a much better than anticipated soccer fan base than what was originally projected.

Not to mention not giving Hedrick even one game off. He is our best player but playing every minute of every game has taken its toll on him and it showed Sunday night.

Konig needs to just sit down. He is doing absolutely nothing and is basically being a empty space up top.

The midfield is a complete disaster. Always losing possession of the ball.

We have been in bad form for 2+ months and our last win against somebody other than Tulsa was July 16th against OC Blues. Also you can pretty much forget about home pitch match. Not that we have been a good team this season anyway.

TRFC won what, 1 or 2 games this season? The wheels didn't just fall off for us, they were never put back on for this season. The fans (like me) have given up and moved back to watching Tulsa Athletics instead.

It's not just the losing of games that hurts, it's the fact that the team is owned by Prodigal and we all know where their priorities lie. Every time we lose there's a good discussion on whether it was an actual loss or just the team following Prodigal's instructions to keep soccer down in Tulsa while they build MLS/OKC Energy support in OKC.

But to be fair, the game last night was a rescheduled game that had no publicity. They aren't even trying anymore. At this point I half expect them to shut the team down next month.

The OKC Energy, led by co-owner Bob Funk Jr., has expressed interest moving up from USL to MLS, and the ownership group has purchased land in Bricktown with plans to build a new stadium.
