View Full Version : Sipango
We've talked about Sipango in other threads but it deserves it's own.
Now that is has been nonsmoking for a while, I actually went in for the first time ever.
Still a little musty smelling in there but they had the front doors open and the fresh air made a big difference.
Didn't realize they have a full-size table tennis table in there... Kind of cool.
It's really a neat old-school type of place with friendly service and patrons.
They will also soon be adding a small patio.
MadMonk 01-27-2016, 09:19 PM Man, its been YEARS since I've been there. Lots of good memories in that place. Lots of memories I don't quite as clearly recall too :).
Urbanized 01-28-2016, 08:40 AM It's supposedly the oldest operating bar in OKC, and honestly I can't think of an older one. It's the first place I took a legal drink the day I turned 21. Used to be one of the few places in town to catch regular live music. I spent many nights there watching bands like Nixons, Wakeland, KGB, Stiff Richard and the like. It's got a special place in my heart.
That said, I was there maybe a week and a half ago for the first time in a while and the 48 year old me wasn't down with the noisiness or the crowd mix. Might've just been the night I was there. Jon Taffer would tell them to take out the punching bag game, and the night I was there was the perfect example of why.

Wow...my 49 year old self and you probably crossed paths many times at Sipango! Used to watch the same bands there frequently! Been a long time since I was in there.

Can you expound on this? Just curious is all, as Its been probably close to 10+ years, sine I've been in there.
shawnw 01-28-2016, 09:30 AM I thought Blue Note was the oldest operating bar in OKC?
GaryOKC6 01-28-2016, 10:11 AM They have used VZD to their advantage and done a good job of it. I go there occasionally as well and am glad that they are now non smoking. When VZD went nonsmoking Sipango got their liquor liscense and put a big sign in front stating we are now serving liquor and smokers are welcome. All of the smokers who were really upset with VZD started going there.
Now that VZD no longer has that casual neighborhood feel to it Sipango is going after that group. Seems to be working too. As I mentioned we go there now.

Loud, yelling, over-served, youngish in general, some of them probably with truck nuts on their rides parked outside. Four dudes swaggered/staggered to the punching bag game and took turns violently whaling on it and yelling encouragement/insults at each other. Bad male/female ratio.
That said, it's entirely possible I was there on an off night. Though I will say that they seemed like regulars.

Have not been there in years but dang...that is a pretty accurate description of what I remember.
