Haha... Can you tell I've been getting a big dose of Okie comfort food fixes?? :D

I know frito chili pie is simple and a bit hard to mess up but as with everything, their are gradiations.

What are some of the best spots? Any place that offers a bit more of an upscale version, like Cheever's take on chicken fried steak?

This won't help you, Pete, but you brought up a great high school memory...

The Sonic in the small town where I grew up was awesome, and I absolutely LOVED their frito chili pies. Sadly, I cannot recommend much (anything) from our current-day Sonic restaurants.

I'll have to walk over and try Irma's version.

Also, given the awesomeness of their coney's, I bet Tim's at 50th and MacArthur would be a good bet.

I don't think Sonic has those anymore. I tried to order their frito-chili burrito a couple of years ago and was told they no longer had the fritos products.

I only ever eat them at one place... It's plain and simple with cheese and onions but I like it.... Coney Island

Out of the way, but the Frito chili pie at Eischen's is a great appetizer while waiting for the chicken. Nothing fancy about it, though.

Louie's use to have a fantastic one called the Okie Monster.. but they removed it from the menu sadly.
Tims does have a good Frito Chili pie. I tend to make my own more often than not. Had one last night made with Wendy's Chili and my own fritos, Onions, Cheese and mustard.

Louie's in Edmond has the Okie Monster on their appetizer menu. I've had it recently. It's very good but too much for one person to eat.

Never tried theirs but I do like their chili... So you're assessment is probably pretty solid.

YEs it is huge and definitely enough to share. I guess they didn't remove it from all menus that is good to know.

and I forgot about Ron's!

Haven't tried Ron's. Some Sonics have Frito Chili Pies and some don't. You just have to go to them and ask. I got one maybe a month ago in Del City. Went to one, they didn't have it. Drove a mile and a half to a second one, and they did have it.

The best way I've found is to make your own. Take a small bag of Fritos, cut open the end. Put in your shredded cheese and diced onion, and then pour the chili in the bag and eat it that way. It's awesome.

If you're a sucker for New Mexican green chili, there's a place in Yukon that is as close to as authentic as I could fine in the OKC area. Just like in Santa Fe, the restaurant serves the pie right out of the bag, and it's topped with green or red chili. Interestingly, many say that Frito Pies originated in Santa Fe.

I'm a big fan of the Southwestern cuisine that one can find in beautiful Santa Fe, so finding this place was a treat. It's now one of my favorite places for dining out. The restaurant is right off of Cornwell and Route 66.

When we go to Ron's, I can't get past always ordering the "Dawgzilla".

and that brought back an old Moore JR High School memory. Only had 30 minutes and we would run underneath I-35 to the Dairy Queen on the other side. The fun part was running back and trying not to lose your lunch. Good times.

Rons is by far the best around okc, if you ever find your way east up the turnpike Ike's would be your spot.....

I gotta cringe when someone mentions Sonic in the same breath as best, they literally open a can of hormel up... Heat and serve.

No beans of course..... It becomes a soup when you start adding vegetables....IMO
