View Full Version : Shields Car Lot
baralheia 01-12-2016, 02:47 PM Construction has commenced on a new car lot being built on the northeast corner of SE 32nd St and S Shields Blvd, near Capitol Hill - activating a long dormant triangle of land directly across the street from the Capitol Hill Tag Agency and the Reload convenience store.
12074 12075
The lot, located at 3208 S Shields Blvd, will feature 27 parking spaces and a 1200 Sq.Ft. prefabricated steel building for the sales offices and garage.
I'm unable to find really anything on the property's owner, and the building permit simply lists the owner's name and "(Automotive Sales)" for the project name, so I have no idea what the lot will be named or if there will be any specific make of vehicle they plan to sell.
Not hugely exciting, but it's always good to see infill - especially on less desirable sites such as this one.
BBatesokc 01-12-2016, 03:08 PM Just what S. Shields Blvd. needs, another car lot!

rezman 01-12-2016, 03:19 PM How about another mobile home lot?.

Normally, I'd agree, but this one is really quite small - and the next nearest used auto dealer is a mile to the south. The site itself is a bit of a challenge and there's not much that would work here. Again, I'm not really excited about it, but a new business opening on a formerly empty lot means more tax revenue for the city and one less vacant lot, so I don't think it's really that bad of a development.
adaniel 01-12-2016, 03:51 PM Usedcarlot Alley?
Usedcarlot-town?
Usedcarlot Row?
Help me out here, folks.
Plutonic Panda 01-12-2016, 03:58 PM I don't know why this is surprising. Most cities have concentrations of used car lots.

Man, you are really on a roll recently. Do you just sit around and wait for new posts so you can take a crap on them?
What is the point of posting a response like this? I just don't get it.
baralheia 01-12-2016, 04:04 PM My thoughts exactly. Used car lots aren't exciting but any active business - especially where there was none prior - seems like a net positive in my book. Anyway, more than anything I posted this because I saw them working on this site and I wanted to know what it was - figured others would be curious and might want to know too. :)

You are right, and sorry for the snarkiness. Bored at work today, I guess.
Curious, do you live on the southside? I am not in OKC so it is hard to follow development that is not front and center. Do you feel like the southside is picking up momentum? Any new businesses besides this one?

Go find a new hobby, you're obnoxious.
BBatesokc 01-12-2016, 04:24 PM I don't think anyone challenged whether or not the post was valid - comments were specific to what is going to be built there.
I'm not really concerned about the PC Police, so my comment still stands.
What are the odds it is a tote-the-note lot?
I'd also disagree with the idea that any business going in on a lot is better than an empty lot.

It was meant to be a joke. Chill out...

If you didn't post 100 unnecessarily negative comments a day, I'm sure I would have taken it as a joke.

He hasn't been posting anything that is off base. I don't understand how you took his comment seriously. Perhaps you should take a step back and reread it and think for yourself whether he would mean it as a serious comment or not.

No worries, I know the feeling myself. :) And yes I do! I'm closer to I-240. It really depends on where on the southside you're talking... Generally, inner-city southside (roughly from the river down to I-240, and I-44 to I-35) seems relatively quiet. There is some new construction happening, but in general it's only been retail or foodservice - among other things, a few new Braum's here and there, a few new Little Caesar's, a new OnCue going in at I-240 and May, the OCCC satellite campus is still going into the heart of Capitol Hill, and the old Warehouse Market on SE 59th St is (slowly) being demo'd to shell space for Supermercados Morelos. There are several shopping centers scattered around that are struggling to attract and keep tennants, too. I do expect that within the next year or two that the central area of Capitol Hill, centered around SW 25th and Harvey, will pick up fairly substantially - especially once the OCCC satellite campus is finished. Of any of the existing retail areas in the southside, the I-240 corridor is probably the healthiest of them all right now.
Spartan 01-13-2016, 12:51 PM I don't want to offend anyone or get trolled by the OKC Talkers. So I'm just going to say this is the most exciting thing I've ever seen. Are we sure we haven't heard rumors of 4-5 more, just waiting to go "up"? I think we need a mystery car lot thread.
Why would anyone ever want to live anywhere but Oklahoma? Shake rattle and roll baby.
baralheia 01-13-2016, 01:17 PM Good god people.
