ou48A 01-13-2016, 04:47 PM I have no problem using the University of Texas in Austin as a gauge to where we should be on many levels (academic & athletics). UT is as reputable as any higher institution across the board in the country. We've learned from UT's success & mistakes.
Barry Switzer warned that we don't need a 100,000-seat stadium (no more than 90,000). We have seen what this has done with the cosmetic atmosphere of putting hips in the seats in Austin.
Just don't want to see empty seat pockets at GF Oklahoma Memorial Stadium that look like someone with a bad case Psoriasis that has penetrate the head.
I would agree with you on academics but not on UT football in its current situation which is not in a good situation.
When it comes to football and that’s what this thread is about our gage at OU should be present day Alabama.
The entire Sooner nation (fans) has a lot of hard work left undone that needs done before we can recruit enough of the right athletes to win a national title.
ou48A 01-13-2016, 04:52 PM I was told today that OU will have roughly 1000 more season tickets for sale next season because of the stadium expansion project and that they still have some left for sale in case anyone is interested.
Call the OU ticket office at 405-325- 2424

This is where I start to have a problem. They're starting to sell these as new seats only to take them away when they start work on the west side. I know we're netting additional seats out of the eventual finished product, but we're a few years away from that. If you're someone on the waiting list, maybe you're happy that you get at least a few years in there before they get taken away? But you could also be even more angry that you get it for a few years and then have to get back on waiting. I'm not really sure what a fair way to handle that is without leaving empty sections for a while that COULD Be making money. Although one thought is, shove the visitors in the new sections and sell off their old seats instead. That way, if you have to reduce the number offered, it's not as big of a deal. Is there any pact or something in the NCAA/Big XII about having to have a certain number or % of seats available to visitors?

I think that fact alone tells you a great deal about the relative softness of demand. You just came off a Big 12 title season, a run in the CFP, you're amid a stadium renovation, but you have to issue a press release (well, not exactly, but you get the idea) that some extra season tickets are unsold.
Also goes to debunk the ever expanding mythology of the Dreaded Season Ticket Waiting List.
As bomber points out, however, I might be hesitant to jump in on these knowing the upcoming plans - might get them for a year, maybe two (?), then have them yanked or have a "mandatory" donation added. I'm just wondering where they'll be - in those corners of the new endzone where there aren't actual "club" seating (it appears), what would prospectively be the "new" Section 36 or (I think) section 50 (immediately adjacent to Section 1)?
Verrrry interesting.

There will be enough natural attrition to take care of any size reduction of season tickets + OU always has a number of individual game tickets that could be utilized as season tickets.
SoonerDave 01-16-2016, 07:08 PM Don't know if anyone is interested, but I took some pics today of the stadium construction and actually got IN the stadium. Posted the pics to an album on IMGUR, although I don't think I like the way their album thing works:

Wow, incredible pics. Thanks a bunch.
Laramie 01-17-2016, 11:28 AM OU making the final four won't pay dividends until next season's recruiting. Hopefully, we can secure some of those SEC-Atlantic Conference corn bread & buttermilk fed linemen.
Our lines (offensive & defensive) should be better next season if they make any improvements.
We had the quarterback, receivers & running backs to win a national championship; however, our linemen were our Achilles heel.

Impressive pics! Did you have any security problems getting inside to take those pics?
Just the new south end zone seating alone equals what we hope to accomplish with the Hall of Fame Stadium (softball) 2019 expansion in OKC's Adventure District.

Nope. No security issues. Only went through gates that were open, and other than the construction people, there was nobody else there. One pickup truck did drive by with a massive tank of BBQ sauce, however...smelled great :)
I just obeyed the construction fences....the last time i went down there, one of the crew was very pleasant and saw I was taking pictures, and said, "hey, its going to look great in about six months!" I think they're taking a lot of pride in how important this projectx is for the program. As long as I dont get in anyone's way, they don't mind. And, in contrast, if anyone had come and told me to leave, I'd have left. No troublemaker here :)
Laramie 01-22-2016, 12:45 PM The first phase is expected to be done by early August. Naifeh says construction is on schedule to this point, and while the progress may seem rapid, the infrastructure typically goes up quickly. Naifeh anticipates seating should be fine for the home opener, however.
"Substantial completion will be about 20 days prior to the initial kickoff," Naifeh said. "Substantial completion really does mean you could use the facility. So we're looking at trying to get it done and ready to go by the first part of August."
