I watched a show last night about how the One World Trade Center was built and it was really good. The way it was designed and all the different crews and materials. If you get a chance to see it I suggest you take the time to watch.

Is this officially called the One World Trade Center? For some reason, I thought it was going to be the Freedom Tower. Anyways, beautiful building and I can't wait to see the other ones start going up!

it's a nice looking tower, certainly... however, i think it would've been a more poignant statement to build an updated version of the twin towers... but... not my dime, not my buildings. -M

Althought impressive and I understand why they are that way, but I am not a fan of the skinny tall buildings that are going up there. That being said, Id take an upper floor condo in 432 Park Ave any day.

It was never officially called Freedom Tower, though I think it was the "working title" in the design and early construction phases.

It was actually a PBS show called Super Skyscrapers and it was very cool on how it's 1776 feet tall to mark the year 1776.

One World Trade Center is an impressive building. Not to divulge a spoiler or anything, but the observatory up top is Magnificent. The view itself isn't that much different than say the Empire State building, or Top of the Rock. But, how you get there...and the technology of the building itself is amazing. The elevator ride to the top is wall to wall HD screens, that is a time lapse video of NYC being built up around you.

But the craziest thing, is that once you are to the top, you are all asked to step forward into a room. At that point, they basically have a large HD movie screen, where they show a pretty impressive video, about NYC..and the strength/resiliency of its people. (Yada Yada) Then, all of the sudden, the floor and screen quickly raise up, and you're literally looking straight down on the city through glass. Breathtaking to say the least. The views are much better from One World Trade, but you are inside, enclosed in glass. (Whereas, the Empire State and Top of the Rock are outside in open air.)

Have to go back and do that. Last time I was in NYC the tower was only about 20 stories out of the ground. Having been to the Top of the Rock and Empire State, I honestly liked Rockefeller Center better, although being on the top of the ESB is almost like meeting Elvis or something. It's just so iconic, and by that I mostly mean culturally.

By the way, for those who have been to Top of the Rock, keep in mind that it is essentially the same height as Devon Tower. DT was under construction when I was visiting NYC, and when standing on the observation deck of TOTR it was mind-blowing to think we had a building coming out of the ground that would be almost exactly the same height.

I guess that helps to justify the cost which I heard is around $30 to go up. Correct me if I am wrong

$30 doesn't sound too bad. I think that's similar to admissions I paid a few years ago for ESB, for TOTR and for Hancock Tower Observatory in Chicago.

Yeah, ESB main deck plus top deck admission (the tour I took) is currently $52. There are other options for even more. 1WTC sounds like a bargain.

What I like was that the ToR has three levels. The top level is set back in from the level below so it doesn't have any protective glass or fencing. It is nothing but clear view north and south.

Agree. It also has the best view of all, I think. On one side an expansive view of the entirety of Central Park and upper Manhattan, and on the other side an iconic, perfectly-framed view of the ESB with the rest of Manhattan island stretching off into the distance. A great view of the Chrysler Building too; you just have to work a little bit harder to find it.

Also, lines are much shorter at TOTR, and the crush/hassle seems to be less pronounced. That said, ESB is cool simply because it is ESB. It is such a part of our collective popular and entertainment culture that it feels almost a bit surreal to be able to see/touch it. It's an inanimate movie star of the highest order.
