We hadn't eaten fresh tamales in a long time but recently bought some at the Buy For Less deli. When I went back to get some more, they said it was a one-time special and they didn't sell, so they won't have them any more. Where can I get fresh tamales in this area? Thanks.

It would be great to find the two sisters, Digna and Alisara, that used to bring tamales into the bars. The (now deceased) husband would bring them around the Rendezvous on Thursdays, and we'd always get a dozen or two. They put lard in the masa, as well as the stock from the meat. You know, like it's s'posed to be.

Any one else remember those tamale bycycles that use to be seen on West Reno. I used to stop one of those vendors every chance I got. They pedaled a sort of adult sized tri-cycle with a white box on front with red letters that just said "tomales- 25cents". People would tell me they were made from dogs and cats, but I never believed it.

Even better, make your own. The hardest part is slow cooking the filling in a crock pot. It's so super easy to make home made tamales and all your friends will love you when you share them! I do it about once every few months.

It probably was dog and cat but when it tastes good... Who cares what they made it from! ;+)

When I delivered tortillas for Nino's while paying my way through college. I made friends with the owner of one of the restaurants I delivered to and he would hook me up with tamal made by some elderly woman he was friends with around Christmas every year.... Best damn tamal I've ever eaten and I never once asked, or cared, what they were made of.... lol .... I do miss them a lot and Tamales El Patio is as close to hers as I've been able to find.
