Best move the OU athletic department made in a long time. What a great coach - does it with class, too. dankrutka 01-03-2016, 12:28 PM Check on that and KU beat Baylor today. Everything seems to be set for a huge 1 vs 2 showdown in Lawrence. It'll a actually be 1 vs 1 if you use the two polls. ;) Roger S 01-03-2016, 12:46 PM I'm just glad both teams are healthy coming into this game. This is a special opportunity for me. Being a Kansan I definitely bleed Crimson & Royal Blue but having lived here my entire adult life, and attending many games at Lloyd Noble, I have adopted the Sooners as well. So seeing the two teams I follow get to play as the top two teams in the country has me stoked beyond belief and no matter who wins I come out happy. #RockChalkJayhawk #BoomerSooner ljbab728 01-03-2016, 10:59 PM I'm just glad both teams are healthy coming into this game. I'm hoping for a different outcome this time. :) BG918 01-03-2016, 11:55 PM OU hasn't won in Lawrence in 22 years. Crazy but true. Huge game Monday night. Roger S 01-04-2016, 10:11 AM Yes, the stakes aren't quite as high but it reminds me of when OU and KU played for the national championship. I'm hoping for a different outcome this time. :) Well actually the Sooners swept the Jayhawks in Big 8 Conference play that year but I would, without a doubt, love to see these two teams playing each other for a National Championship again. =+) I have tickets to the NCAA Tournament opening rounds here this year and I'm hoping both the Sooners and Jayhawks get to play their first two games here. ljbab728 01-04-2016, 11:03 PM Not the result I was hoping for but you can't ask for much more that a 3 overtime game between the country's two best teams. Unless something changes, they should still be the 1 and 2 in the country. Dustin 01-04-2016, 11:21 PM That was the best CBB game I have ever seen. 2007 OSU vs Texas at Gallagher Iba is a close 2nd. gopokes88 01-04-2016, 11:37 PM Heck of a good game Sooners. Buddy hield with a 2007 Kd at osu esq performance. Ku showing some class giving hield an ovation dankrutka 01-04-2016, 11:56 PM Incredible game. Buddy was amazing. Some really questionable down the stretch for Kansas, particularly on the inbounds when the ref failed to warn Selden to give 3 feet (which is standard and required) and then ignoring when he literally jumped over the line. It's a really basic call. Anyway, OU had plenty of chance to win and Kansas was bound to get calls down the stretch. This OU team is really good and can do some damage. mugofbeer 01-05-2016, 01:11 AM Ive watched a lot of basketball games. Tonights game in Lawrence may be the best I've seen this early in the season. I hate to agree with him but Barry Tramel said there wasnt a loser. #1 & #2 playing triple OT and it still coming down to a missed 3-pointer. No one has anything to be ashamed of. This game was as good as they get. I also want to give a shout-out to the KU fans. Buddy Hield went to talk to the ESPN announcers and got a standing O. Those guys may not know diddly about football but they were classy hosts and knew they had seen one of the best basketball games in Big 12 history. Only a Sooner win could have made it any better but it was certainly no loss. Roger S 01-05-2016, 09:47 AM I may be a little biased due to being a fan of both teams but it was the greatest basketball game I've ever seen..... Some bad calls both ways but the players left everything they had on the court and there really were no losers in that fieldhouse last night. Being a KU fan is easy. We never have to rebuild. We just reload every year.... But I've followed this Sooner program through thick and thin and I've always looked for the positives, even during the most negative of times, when most of their fans disappeared on them... So I'm really proud to have watched this group of players mature and improve and become the best team in the nation.... And I really do think they are the best team... Maybe not the most talented, and definitely not the deepest, but when it comes to being a team you don't get much better than what Lon Kruger has at OU right now. chuck5815 01-05-2016, 12:49 PM Ive watched a lot of basketball games. What a game and the two meet again in Norman next month. Pack the LNC this Saturday for K-State. adaniel 01-05-2016, 01:14 PM Great game, but in the last week OU athletics has probably taken years off my life....YEARS. I am making plans to be at the OU/KU game at the LNC on 2/13. Bold prediction...one of these teams is probably winning it all this year. mugofbeer 01-05-2016, 08:50 PM I haven't sat down and verified but the KU football team scored one less point in all the 2015 season than their basketball team scored last night. Urbanized 01-06-2016, 06:42 AM I hadn't been to an OU basketball game yet this season, and on the spur-of-the-moment decided to drive to Lawrence for Monday's game. Jersey Boss 01-07-2016, 10:39 PM So you were the guy yelling "Boomer" when KU was at the line. LOL. You sir had a great experience that I hope to enjoy someday. I saw a basketball historian (did you know there was such a thing?) say that it was one of the three best games ever played at Phog Allen. When you think of how many games have been played there....wow. What a great choice you made in driving to Lawrence for a game like that. ljbab728 01-09-2016, 10:21 PM It seems unfortunate for OU that even as good as they are they can't get a full arena for games. I had heard that the K-State game was sold out but seeing the game video still showed many empty seats. That aspect is still not back to the Billy Ball days. Laramie 01-10-2016, 12:54 PM ^^^^^^^ The Spring semester doesn't start until Jan 19. Many, many students are not on campus right now. Good point! Lon Kruger has really turned this program around. Just wonder what he could have done with those 3 McDonald's All Americans that Jeff Capel had on his OU squad; that was an opportunity squashed. BG918 01-10-2016, 01:16 PM OU continues its tough schedule Wednesday against OSU in Stillwater. I know OSU hasn't looked good but it's still Bedlam at Gallagher-Iba which is always tough for the Sooners. The end of January is brutal: at Iowa St then at Baylor, home against Tech then at LSU (Big 12/SEC). If somehow OU makes it to the Feb 13 game against KU unscathed that has the potential to be the biggest game in Norman in at least a decade. Rover 01-10-2016, 05:12 PM Good point! Lon Kruger has really turned this program around. Just wonder what he could have done with those 3 McDonald's All Americans that Jeff Capel had on his OU squad; that was an opportunity squashed. I don't think Lon would have recruited those MAMs. He seems to prefer a different kind of persona as a team fit. He is about TEAM. Those guys were about themself. OKCisOK4me 01-10-2016, 06:35 PM Once again, OSU doesn't have a basketball team so I will have to resort to being a KU fan... ljbab728 01-10-2016, 09:45 PM ^^^^^^^ The Spring semester doesn't start until Jan 19. Many, many students are not on campus right now. There were empty seats all over the arena so the absence of students was not the only problem. It is still nice to see the arena almost full now even if there are empty seats. ljbab728 01-12-2016, 10:29 PM Kansas lost tonight to West Virginia in Morgantown. That likely means that if OU avoids a loss this week they could move to number one in both polls next week. dankrutka 01-12-2016, 11:42 PM Iowa State collapsing and their fans are melting down. As we've been saying, winning on the road in the Big 12 is a chore. OU has a tough 3 game stretch coming up. Next is at home against the West Virginia team that just beat Kansas and then road games against number 17 Iowa State and number 22 Baylor. BG918 01-13-2016, 11:15 PM Close win for OU. OSU played a great game. West Virginia will be another huge test this Saturday. Need LNC to be rocking especially since most of the students will be back. AP 01-14-2016, 08:26 AM Wow, that was a surprising game last night. Jawun Evans will be a special player for OSU hopefully for the next four years. Roger S 01-14-2016, 09:41 AM OSU certainly made OU work for a two point win tonight in Stillwater and that is no surprise. As we've been saying, winning on the road in the Big 12 is a chore. If OSU had hit their free throws they win that game and OU didn't respond well to the full court pressure at all.... I'm sure Kruger saw what WVU did to KU and they'll be bringing the ball up the court 7 on 5 a bunch this week. While it's nice to be number 1 overall, getting a number one seed in the tournament important also. mugofbeer 01-18-2016, 09:31 PM Hey, they're hanging tough. Got a lot of game to go. BG918 01-19-2016, 02:20 AM It's not looking good for OU at the moment but life on the road in the Big 12 is rough. While it's nice to be number 1 overall, getting a number one seed in the tournament important also. I'd say that is ultimately much more important. OU can lose maybe 2 more and still get a 1 seed with their schedule and quality wins as long as they don't have any really bad losses. KU and Iowa St on the road were the two toughest conference games. Already beat Iowa St and WVU at home and a road win at OSU. Still have to go to Baylor (this Sat), Texas (they are looking a lot better) and WVU, and also Tech and KState which are decent teams especially at home. And of course KU in Norman on Feb 13.. zookeeper 01-19-2016, 03:16 AM The Big 12: A REAL basketball conference. ljbab728 01-19-2016, 09:34 PM OSU routs KU tonight in Stillwater and shows again what a tough league it is. There's no continuity in college ball without that in place. He'll be gone next year if he keeps doing well. I disagree. I am not sure if there is an easy answer, but some players are ready for the NBA after one year of college. There is absolutely no reason that, for example, Kevin Durant should have been made to stay in college any further. He was clearly ready for the NBA and his family shouldn't have to wait additional years for that income. What college student wouldn't leave college early if they received a million dollar offer to pursue their profession of choice? I think what is best for players should be privileged over what is best for college basketball programs. Programs can adjust and many have done so. I am not saying the current system is perfect, and you might be able to convice me why a two year commitment makes sense, but I can't see three years as making sense for a player like Ben Simmons.
