Firehouse 6 which is across the street from John Conrad golf course on SE 15th is closing.

I was at the Council Meeting last night and there are a lot of people upset about this. From what I understand MWC says they don't have the money to keep it staffed and that the firehouse is not important. There were a lot of people saying otherwise. Firefighters said this will affect response times not only to the surrounding areas but to any wrecks that happen on the particularly dangerous section I-40 that rolls through MWC.

I'm hoping that MWC can find a way to keep it open but it does not look likely.

And yet the fire department said they BADLY NEEDED this place as part of that bond issue that built this building to be the new HQ. Even though they've never fully left the old HQ. That's what really pisses me off about this...such a monumental waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and it just keeps getting better.
Recall elections, court fights, bad public feelings.

Just keep the station open, which they are, and figure out how to properly staff it as time goes by.

One thing that confuses me is, how are we short on budget when the city is collecting more in sales tax revenue than it ever has in its history?
