View Full Version : Oklahoma Sooners 2015-16 Football Season
Urbanized 12-07-2015, 02:48 PM OU will probably still travel pretty well. Not Alabama well, but we don't do that anyway. Few if any do.
That said, I predict Clemson fans will dramatically outnumber OU fans, and if they beat OU they will give Bama fans a run. I know the Tigers have had success in the past, but for the most part they are new money. They had 20K+ show up at their stadium for the playoff announcement, fercryinoutloud...

I think, very best case, would be a 65-35 split Clemson over OU fans. The trip for Clemson fans is just tooooo easy - and, again, exactly why they had to move OU to the #4 seed.
Urbanized 12-07-2015, 04:42 PM If there was a conspiracy to put OU at 4 - and in fairness the subjective nature of this BS "eye test" selection process leaves it open to such suspicions - I would think that it was more about the number of TV sets tuned to the games. If Alabama wins, OU vs Clemson sets up EITHER number 1 vs Alabama OR a tremendous traditional matchup in OU/Bama. If MSU wins...well, Michigan (and the Big 10) has a TON of TV sets.
Best possible set of outcomes based on TV numbers. Coincidence?

Laramie 12-08-2015, 06:39 AM Just don't think there were a conspiracy theories to drop OU to the #4 spot; however it did play right into the committee's hands to make sure that no team had a home field advantage feel. Big XII doesn't have a championship game; it was convenience for them to drop the Sooners one spot; especially since the other teams (Clemson, Alabama & Michigan State) were in the spotlight to close out that final week.
Thankful we were #3 or we could have gotten kicked off the playoff bandwagon.
The OU brand certainly had a lot to do with a Big XII representative's survival. Now it's time for Big Game Bob to win it all.
We were at a disadvantage when we played Florida (in Miami) & LSU in New Orleans. The year we lost to USC, we dug ourselves a hole; got beat by a very talented Trojan team.
adaniel 12-10-2015, 02:30 PM Not trying to start rumors, but am hearing a lot of chatter about Trevor Knight transferring. Whats the 411?
Jersey Boss 12-10-2015, 02:41 PM Not trying to start rumors, but am hearing a lot of chatter about Trevor Knight transferring. Whats the 411?
I read something about that somewhere as well. Based on his performance last year and this year, it would probably be a FCS or lower school.
dankrutka 12-10-2015, 03:31 PM Most OU QBs that have lost out on the starting job and transferred have had very little success. Most of the guys transferred to other Power 5 schools and ended up being beat out there (see Kendall Thompson, Drew Allen, Tommy Grady, etc.). It might be better to just stay at OU and be ready in case the starter goes down. Having said that, I'm not sure that Knight should be in front of Cody Thomas as bad as he looked against TCU.
Jersey Boss 12-10-2015, 06:32 PM ESPN is now reporting that Knight has been granted his release and he will transfer. I wish the young man well and no matter what, he will always have that win over Alabama. I don't know what his current medical condition is or if that will factor into where he will be able to play. I know Kansas could use a qb.

I'm hearing that K State is one of the places he's considering and Bob Stoops has said he won't stand in his way no matter where he ends up.
http://m.newsok.com/trevor-knight-granted-full-release-per-soonerscoop.com-report/article/5466016
According to the SoonerScoop.com report, Knight has already been in contact with other programs including OU’s Big 12 rival Kansas State, Oregon, Georgia and SMU.
Stoops has never placed any restrictions on outgoing transfer players. Without such limits, Knight could potentially start for the Wildcats when they play at Oklahoma next October 15.
ljbab728 12-11-2015, 12:10 AM These kind of statements are a dime a dozen by college coaches, but it's nice to hear.
OU Sports Extra - OU Sports: Lincoln Riley on coaching rumors: 'I'm certainly not in a hurry to leave this place' (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/ousportsextra/ou-sports-lincoln-riley-on-coaching-rumors-i-m-certainly/article_dede72ea-20df-5079-a695-0639ec8c0b38.html)
“I do want to be a head coach at some point,” Riley said before Tuesday’s Broyles Award ceremony in Little Rock, Arkansas. “I’m not in a hurry to do it and I’m certainly not in a hurry to leave this place.”
“Caitlin (his wife) and I aren’t people that go jump off to the next thing every now and then. You can see that in the two stops in my career that we were there in coaching years for a pretty long time,” Riley said. “We love Oklahoma, we love the people here and we want to be a part of this program for a long time.”
dankrutka 12-11-2015, 01:57 AM To clarify, it's been reported that Knight has been cleared to transfer, but hasn't decided whether he will or not.
Coincidentally, A&M's QB (who is much better than Knight) announced he's transferring and he has already mentioned OU as a possibility. Interesting.

Laramie 12-23-2015, 10:12 AM Baker Mayfield has the self confidence it takes to win it all for the Sooners. Many people doubted if he could beat out Trevor Knight (especially with his 2014 Sugar Bowl Performance against Alabama).

Exactly. We've seen it over and over. If his numbers didn't "live up to the hype" (already), we'd be in El Paso or similar.

That didn't sound like what you were saying. It sounded like we could find out how different they could be with an elusive quarterback when the new transfer started playing in a couple of years. I also make posts sometimes that are very clear to me but others don't totally get. It's all good.

TU 'cane 12-28-2015, 09:09 AM Tis the week.
Can't say how much I want the Sooners to win this game.
ljbab728 12-29-2015, 09:56 PM This could either be a very big distraction for Clemson in the Orange Bowl or it could have no affect at all. Who knows.

Eh, this has so far gone quieter than the Mayfield-Patterson (TCU) tiff, or the Mixon stories.
Media trying to conjure up nonsense and distractions, particularly aimed at OU, it would appear.

What stories has the media conjured up towards OU?
ljbab728 12-30-2015, 08:46 PM Actually, in the national media, I've seen much more coverage about the Clemson players who aren't playing than anything about controversial comments by Baker and almost nothing about Mixon.
Bits_Of_Real_Panther 12-31-2015, 02:01 AM dang, forgot about all the racist frat stuff(thanks SAE) , espn is gonna play that up as a pre-game situation/rallypoint.
all that said, that countenance of Perine makes me think he is in his mid 40s. ha , lol. Crap, I also forgot about the Venable transition to Defensive coordinator of Clemson as well. boomer sooner
I'm not a fan of the long layover from end of regular season to playoff/bowl game, hopefully the powers that be can fix this.
okatty 12-31-2015, 08:20 AM Actually, in the national media, I've seen much more coverage about the Clemson players who aren't playing than anything about controversial comments by Baker and almost nothing about Mixon.
I would say I've seen that the other way - more talk about OU/Mayfield-TCU/Patterson, Mixon, etc in my view but in the end doesn't matter. To me the key is how Clemson defense can play against by far the best offense they have faced this year. We'll see if their defense is overrated or if it is as good as advertised.
My one gripe about this whole deal is the way the games were scheduled. To me its crazy to bow down to the Rose Bowl and not play these games tomorrow or even on Saturday the 2nd. NE eve afternoon is dumb in my view but then they didn't ask me!:) BOOMER SOONER!

The Mixon story has been written about by USA Today, the New York Times, and covered nationally. OU handled it terribly by not having Mixon address the media a long time ago.
soonermike81 12-31-2015, 10:29 AM Heard Shaq Lawson got on our bus yesterday after a luncheon and started talking trash. This game can't get hear soon enough. Hope all of their trash talking backfires on them. Should never give a team bulletin board material before a big game.

We need to smack them right in the mouth right off the bat. Show them that this isn't last year's Sooner team and put the fear of Crimson in them!
It's a lot tougher when the opposing team has their starting quarterback playing.
It's a lot tougher when the opposing team has their starting quarterback playing.
Watson is the best QB in the country and they've beaten every team they've played for lots of reasons.
Clemson is darn good and OU is banged up.
Bill Robertson 12-31-2015, 06:31 PM I want to post but everything I want to say I can't say on a public forum.
Clemson was just the better team. Can't get too angry at the result. They deserved to win.
dcsooner 12-31-2015, 06:33 PM Just left game. Observations
Clemson has significantly better talent across the board.
Clemson WR are phenominal
Deshane Watson is the real deal
Clemson fans showed up 70-30 for this game
NO one is afraid of OU anymore
OU cannot tackle
Stoops defense falter once again
Clemson HITS and TACKLES
Well I could add more but what's the point
Clemson is damn good and the better team.
Congrats to them. OU made great strides this season and should be even better next year.
BG918 12-31-2015, 06:41 PM Typical OU. I don't think we'll win another championship with Stoops.
okatty 12-31-2015, 06:46 PM Clemson was just best team - it could have gotten ugly earlier had they capitalized in red zone sooner. Dominated OU in trenches both sides of the ball. Much more physical bruising team. OU has not seen a defense anything near that all year.
I "won" a lot of money tonight - by not not going to Phoenix for final game...haha.
OU was better than 124 of the other 127 FBS schools this year.
I'm disappointed of course but this season was a big step in the right direction after many hard changes where made in the off season.
We'll have another good crack at it next year and hope all the stars align. Lots of things have to fall into place to be better than 127 teams in a given year.
adaniel 12-31-2015, 06:50 PM Definitely was hoping for a different result but I'm not even mad. This season has been a blast...I can't remember a more fun season since 2004. We are picking up some monster recruits and will be loaded next year.
Was so hoping for an OU/Bama rematch but given all of the bowl upsets I think they lose too. Oh well.
I'm a bit disappointed how poorly the fans traveled though.
dcsooner 12-31-2015, 07:23 PM I'm a bit disappointed how poorly the fans traveled though.
It was dismal. OU fans are tired of having big expectations and losing the big games (or at least I am ) and I am a native Oklahoman an OU graduate and a fan,

That's been the problem for sure. Recruiting is weak! Their guys dominated us up front and it wasn't even close. Felt like there were some bad calls and no-calls, but wouldn't have made a difference anyways. Have to win in the trenches.
