View Full Version : Songs about Oklahoma City
baralheia 07-27-2015, 03:03 PM Over the weekend, my BF (who lived almost his whole life in Chicago) had me listen to "Lake Shore Drive" by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah - a rather catchy tune about the famed street that follows the edge of Lake Michigan through the city of Chicago. It got me to thinking... Are there any songs out there about Oklahoma City or it's features? I think it'd be neat to compile a list of them.
Songs listed in this thread:
Jewel - The Oklahoma City Song
Jabee - Cool
Nine Days - Oklahoma City
Kim Fowley - Oklahoma City
Argyle Street - Oklahoma City
Cake Bake Betty - Oklahoma City
The Fixtures - Oklahoma City Alarm Clock
Jimmy Wakely - Oklahoma City Blues
Charley Austin - Oklahoma City on the Radio

baralheia 07-27-2015, 03:12 PM Yeah, I found that too, but those are songs about Oklahoma as a whole, or other cities around the state... More specifically, I was meaning songs about OKC in one way or another. That list is so huge it's a bit hard to skim through and parse.

Most of the songs about OKC are in the same spot on the list.
baralheia 07-27-2015, 03:58 PM Fair enough, but I imagine not all songs about Oklahoma City are titled "Oklahoma City". Case in point: "Cool" by Jabee. That's why I was asking :)

PhiAlpha 07-27-2015, 09:09 PM The song isn't about OKC but It is mentioned in the first line of Central Daylight Time by the Wrinkle Neck Mules. You'll recognize it from the Geico Texas two stepping commercial

Heres the commercial for anyone that doesn't remember it from the billion + times it ran:

HOT ROD 07-29-2015, 03:36 AM Isn't Oklahoma City prominently mentioned in a number of songs, particularly Route 66 - get your kicks. "Oklahoma City looks mighty pretty!" and the Heart of Rock N Role from Huey Lewis, come to mind.
baralheia 08-04-2015, 06:11 PM When I was thinking "Songs about OKC" I was thinking more along the lines of songs that are actually about the city or some prominent part thereof, not just a simple mention of the city in the lyrics or in the title. For instance, Jabee's "Cool" talks about the streets and the people of OKC, or "Lake Shore Drive" (mentioned in the first post) waxes nostalgic about a very prominent street in Chicago. Those are the kind of songs I'm looking for; that's what I mean when I say "songs about OKC".
Just the facts 08-05-2015, 10:26 AM Does this one count?

baralheia 08-05-2015, 05:03 PM It doesn't really talk a whole lot about the city, but after reading the lyrics it's talking about picking his girlfriend up in the city and spending the weekend here, so I think that would qualify. :)

SEMIweather 11-14-2020, 09:01 PM Here's a great song that is OKC-specific, from what used to be my favorite OKC band (now based out of Fort Collins, CO): https://youtu.be/hSrOf0Jzrl0
